Ann (Annie) Jones Harman, wife of William Harman 1820, was born in 1822 in Cardigan, Cardiganshire, Wales. A family move brought them to Merthyr Tydfil. Her father David Jones was a collier at the coal mines at Glyn Mill. The family has a quilt that Annie made, carefully stitched with pieces of bright pink cloth over an interior of wool. William and Ann were married at St. Tydfil's parish church on September 9, 1843. They had nine children, but two of them died as infants. The children are as follows:

David Harman b. Sept 15, 1843, Merthyr Tydfil
Jane Harman b. June 6 1845, Merthyr Tydfil
David Harman b. Aug 16 1847, Merthyr Tydfil
Hiram Harman b. Dec 14 1848, Merthyr Tydfil
Joseph Harman b. Jan 6 1853, Merthyr Tydfil
James Harman b. April 29 1855, Aberdare
William Harman b. Dec 23 1857, Methyr Tydfil
Edmund Harman (Herman) b. April 8 1861, Merthyr Tydfil
Evan Harman (Herman) b. April 16 1865, Merthyr Tydfil

Three of their sons, Joseph, James, and William (known as Charles) came to America. All surviving children were involved with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' original branch/ward in Merthyr, as were their parents.
In the 1861 census at Glyn Mill, Merthyr, the following are listed for this family: William Harman 40 coal miner, Ann Harman 37, Jane Harman 15 iron factory laborer, Hyrum Harman 12 haulier, Joseph Harman 8 scholar, James Harman 6 scholar, William Harman 3, Edmund Harman 6 months, with the census stating all born Merthyr. (Although, James was actually born in Aberdare.)
William Harman's family resided at Glyn Mill until 1870. At that point, with job numbers plummeting at Merthyr, the family moved to Treorchy in the Rhondda valley, where they first lived on Butte Street, and then River Row. Annie Jones Harman, wife of William Harman, died in Treorchy on October 19, 1878. She was 56 years of age.
