Failing to convince his first wife (Ann Jones Harman), although she had been baptized, to journey to Utah with him, William Harman finally decided to come by himself. His mother, Gwenllian Harman, and three of his brothers (Lewis, Edmund, and Richard) had also converted to Mormonism. None of these, however, ever came to America. Eira Smith of Merthyr Tydfil, a long-time friend of Mormons and descendant of Lewis Harman, has done considerable research on the Harmans.
