Thomas Davies was christened 21 June 1829 at Berriew, Montgomeryshire, the son of Thomas E. Davies and Phoebe Noakes. At age 19 he came to America with his parents and six siblings. After the death of his little brother Stephen (age 4) on 14 May 1849 and the death of his mother the following day, Thomas's father decided to remain in Missouri. Thomas, however, stayed with the Church and eventually made the trek across the plains with his second wife, Eliza Allen. They lived in Wellsville, Cache County, Utah, for a few years and eventually settled in Portage, Box Elder County, Utah.
