Although he was born in England, he was married and had children in Wales before immigrating to the United States.

Thomas Davies was Christened 6 June 1796 at Forden Parish, Montgomeryshire. After the death of his on Stephen (age 4) on 14 May 1849 and the death of his wife the following day, Thomas Davies decided to remain in Missouri with his children. However, his oldest son Thomas (age 19) opted to remain with the main body of the Church and eventually came to Utah.
