June 6.th 1887 Record of My Mission

[June 6.th 1887] got up at half past Seven & feeling well after a good Nights Sleep. and got a Nice breakfast, and did wright in my Journal. got Ready for a Start for Llwyn y filltir fach wished Sister Williams & Margret good bye. they were very kind to me. Reached Llwyn [y] filltir [fach] at 1/2.past 12 P.M. and got dinner then walked Over to Carmarthen & Bought this Book also two pakages of Envilopes Six Stamps a little Silk Andkerchif also two News papers all to the value of 2/3 then Returned to Llwyn y filltir and got Tea went with the Old Lady around the Garden they having a good One in a little while the Old Jent Came he is very kind and a good Old Man we had a good talk. and Super. then after Prayers went to bed at Llwyn y filltir fach Nr [near] Carmarthen [#] Walked 9 1/2 Miles

[Jun] 7.th got up at Seven and got a wash then breakfast. with Nice bake Stone bread & lovely butter Sister Jones is a Nice Clean Old Lady She gives her bed allways to the Elders, Now am on the Start to Pant.y.fer through Carmarthen Bought 1/4 Lbs Tea 3 Pounds of Sugar one penny in blaking [shoe polish] for the Sisters as it his [is] their I put up with D F Thomas value 1 [S]/ 3 1/2 [D] Reached their about one O.Clock Afternoon Jest before a big Rain. Bro Thomas was gone for the day to See his Brothers Orphan Children Came home about 7.P.M. I Recevied Six Utah Journals was glad to get them. Spent the afternoon well. did take Train for 5 1/2 Miles and a very good Job as I Missed a Big Rain Slept at Pant y fer Nr Brechfa [#] walked.9.Miles

[Jun] 8.th got up at about Seven after a good Nights Rest. got breakfast and did wright a little wrote a letter to Margret Thomas [in] Lampeter. also to Mrs. Ann Price Llanelly Spent the day very Comfortable did Sew on Some Binding on a Coat for Bro Thomas Slept at Pant y fer Near Breachfa [#]

[Jun] 9th got up at Seven and did dream a good deal of home and of My Buisness thought James & William [his brothers] was working for Me. went to the Post [Office] and got a paper & Card from Daniel Lewis did Read it, & the paper. Bro Daniel Lewis Soon Came to bid us good bye; he leaving on the 18th of this Month for his Mountain Home we had a good day together talking about Our Mission and Other things. and Spent a very pleasant day together. I belive that Bro Lewis is going away with the best of of feelings with the Saints got 1/8 [S/D] with him wich Bro Shepton gave to Each of the Elders. Slept at Pant y fer Nr Brechfa [#] 4 Miles to day

[Jun] 10.th got up at half past Six as Bro Lewis was going away got breakfast and then we we wished him good bye for the last time in Wales. I gave him the little Magnefieng Glass. wrote a letter to Bro Campell 42 [Islington, Liverpool] and also to Brother George Lang Neath went to the post Office and got the Star and Read it. and will Say, I was much Struck with the Colonie of Mexico. thinking within myself it his [is] a grand Move for this people. did alter a pair of Pants for D.F.Thomas. went to bed at Pant y fer Nr Brechfa [#] 4.Miles to day

[Jun] 11.th got up at Six this Morning, did not feel to Sleep any longer; did dream of home. of Mary & Carrie. when I dream, I allways get letters from Home this is one of the finest Mornings in Wales yet, it is lovely in Wales Now, you bet. I have been to the Post Office but did Not get any thing. we have been Expecting Some this last few days. did have a wash all over this afternoon. am feeling good, the Only thing that Troubles me [is] I have No Means to help me live hear. with Bro Thomas as their is no Saints to help. Slept at Pant y fer Near Breachfa [#] 4 Miles to day.

[Jun] 12.th got up about Seven it was very foggie. and we thought it would turn Out Stormy. but if Ever I prayed to got any blessing it was for a fine day, has [as] we had a long journey to go to preach about Nine Miles. about Nine O Clock it did Clear off and we had a Splendid day we Started and got Bro Evan Morgan to go with us. although he is in his Eightieth year he walked about 13 Miles. we held a Meeting at "Tynon Garredig" Near "Llan y bythar" we had about 200 or More very fine people to listen to us. they Sang for us Bro Morgan Prayed and Elder D.F.Thomas Spoke first and I followed then Brother John Evans "Pen y Wern" Spoke very good, the first time for me to See this Old Brother. it was a time of Rejoiceing. as we Came home we called at a Farm house Named "Pant yr Rhyg" and was very Kindly asked in to get Something to Eat, and they Brought us Bread & Chees and plenty of Milk. and I will Say I did Enjoy it. Came home it was half past Nine. did Sleep at Pant y fer Near Brechfa [#] did walk 18.Miles 1 [meeting]

[Jun] 13th did not get up this Morning untill Nine; I was rather Tired but am all Right again will go to the post Office & hope to get Something am thinking to take a walk for a few days. Some ware [where] as I cannot bear the thoughts of Staying with the folks to [too] long without being able to help them a little did Not get any thing in Post for Myself got a letter from John Morris Jones to D.F.Thomas it was a very good letter. he thought to Come Over to Wales. but Cannot Oweing to his Trial thrown [thrown over or postponed] again. I have to day Read Some Old letters from home and have thought So much about my dear Ones did Learn to day that Old Judge Zane2 has Resigned, I would Only be to [too] glad to See all the Enimies of this people fail in their undertakeings they have given many of Our best people a good deal of trouble. and have kept our Prophets away from the Saints I hope this will cause the Saints to live Nearer to their (God) So we can claim his protecting Care Over us. and be worthy of a deliverance from our Opressors. Bro D.F.Thomas has gone to Brechfa on buisness. I got Some Names we Slept at Pant y fer Nr Brechfa [#] walked.4.Miles

[Jun] 14.th got up before Seven it his [is] a lovely Morning have Sent a few lines to Daniel Lewis Expect to take a long walk to day with Bro Thomas Called at Post Office and got a letter from Carrie a very Nice letter and one from My little pet was very glad to get it and to find they were all well at home walked to Nant Gredig took the train for Carmarthen; Walked from their to Llwyn y filltir; Got Tea their and a few hours rest Then Started for "Llwyn Teg" to Nellie Williams Met her at about 1/2 a mile from her House She has been to Carmarthen Margret & the Children at home the Children Sick; They treated me well Staid their over Night. At Llwyn Teg. Near Van Galch walked 12 1/2 Miles)

[Jun] 15th got up at Seven and got breakfast bid them good bye and was off for "Llanelly" Called at Old Man Thomas the Tailor [at] Minkey He is 82 years Old he Says he had been very Sick But the people Say he had been on the Spree [drunk?] Called at Gwillim Daviess at the Top of ["]Pontyets" he not at home his wife asked me to Come in but [I] went On My Journey heard a woman make[ing] Butter and went in asked for butter Milk and got Some Started again it was very warm Reached "Llanelly" and found Mrs Price and the Girls well got a change of Clothing as I was So wet

went up to John Johns and found them well Went up to ["]Vellin Vole" to See Sister Williams She is Expecting James Lewis & Betcey her Daughter Every day; Went down Town Called at Sarah Bassets found them all well; Went home and Slept at Morgan Saunders. Old Road Llanelly 9 Miles to day

[Jun] 16th got up about Seven and felt Rested; Went down Town and Called at Robert Hughess Had a long Chat with him and got a good dinner with them Went from their to James Richards3 10 Loyd Street; They had not had a letter from James & Lizzie yet; Went from their to Uncles he was Smoking leaves I felt Sorry for him and bought 1/4 Lbs tobacco for him. he felt very Thankfull for it; Went to John Johns and found her very Sick in bed. Went to Velin Vole and found they had not Come yet went down to the Station to See if they would Come by the last train but [they] did not Come Called at Sarah Bassets Seen Marys little baby it his [is] very Small went went with Ann Saunders for home Met Mrs Price She had been to town; went Home and to Bed at Morgan Saunders Old Road Llanelly

[Jun] 17th got up at half past Six did sew a little on Morgans Pants and Butons on my Vest; Called at at Griffith Wilkins for a while then went down to the Reibys Arms and had a long Chat and a good dinner; Went from their; to Griffith Francis[,] David Williams Cair begins Son in Law4 She was at home and was very kind to me I Read a letter from her Sister and her Mother. it was a very good letter. She feels like She would go away now her Eldest Daughter Says She will go when I go and her Son also Says So. I had quite a long talk with her and got a Nice Cup of Tea with her and [she] asked me to to allways Call to See them. I went from their [there] home as it was about time for me to Start on My Journey; did bid Mrs Price and the Girls good bye and Started for Van Galch Called on the Road at Gwilim Daviess and She kindly gave me a Cup of Tea Started again and he [Gwilim] Came to send me a little way and told me he was Ready to be Baptised he is a Josephite but Never was in our Church I think lots of this Man from the time I Seen him first at Our Meetings bid him good bye and went on my Journey ariving Jest at dusk and in a little while went to bed at Llwyn Teg.Van.Galch was very Tired and wet with Swet walked 9 Miles to day besides in Town.

[Jun] 18th got up at 1/2 past three O Clock A.M. as I wanted to Reach Llwyn y filltir before it got warm and did So was their at five O Clock they had Jest got up I got a Cup of Tea and after went to bed and Slept two Hours got up again and got Bread & Milk and Started for Carmarthen then went around Town Called at Mr Jones [of] Tewy Viue5 and got dinner their; Sent two News papers away then Started for Pant y fer think[ing] to get a Ride but did not got to Hareb [Horeb?] about Six O Clock and got a Cup of Tea with Sister Davies then felt Refreshed and Started again & got to My Journeys End. found them all well and I was Tiered out. had Prayers and ent to bed haveing walked 20 Miles that day Slept at Pant y fer Near Breachfa [#]

[Jun] 19th got up about Seven and after a while went to Breachfa to Bro Morgans we were Eight persons presant and got a Saints Meeting had the Sacrament adminstered. and the Saints bore their Testimonys I Spoke to the Saints and Bro Thomas followed and we all felt well at Our little Meeting we Started for Our Meeting place Near New Inn Carmarthen Shire

it was a walk of 6 1/2 Miles when we got their there was about One Hundred persons Come but before Comencing Meeting their were three Hundred there I Never felt better in my life. the Congregation Sang for us & Bro Morgan Offered up Prayer then Bro John Evans "Pen y Wern" Spoke for a while I followed him then Bro D.F.Thomas Spoke and Old Bro Morgan made a few Remarks Sang again & I Offered the Closeing Prayer. then we were Dismised after a Time of Rejoiceing. Went home another Road to what we Came [on] as we had been Invited to Tea to a Large Farm House Named "Pant yr Ryg" They were very kind to us; The Daughter asked me to Call when passing after Bro Thomas had left We then left fore home Called at Sister Jones & got Some Milk to drink it was a very warm day and we were very thirsty Went again for Home and Arived by dusk haveing walked 13 Miles and did Enjoy Our Selfs good. Slept at Pant y fer Near Breachfa Carmarthen Shire 2 [meetings]

[Jun] 20th Got up at Seven O Clock and after breakfast wrote a letter to Carrie then took it to Post & Returned and wrote a letter to Prest [David] Williams also to Prest Teasdale; giving the acount of Our Labors up hear Spent the day at home Read the Logan Paper it his [is] So good. Slept at "Pant y fer" Near Breachfa Carmarthen [#] Shire

[Jun] 21.st got up at half past Six and after breakfast wrote in my Journal This is the Day of Jubliee of the 50 Year of the Reign of Queen Victoria Suposed to be the Greatest day that Ever was in this Empire. Elder Thomas & My Self went to Post then to "Breachfa" Called at Several houses got bread & Butter and some butter Milk Bro Thomas bought velvetteen for three Jackets & vests for his Sons also Cord [corduroy] for pants all Cost 26/. Shillings. We then went home and Read Some papers Bro Thomas got from home Spent the day very Comfortable went to bed and Slept at Pant y fer Near Breachfa [#] Walked 6.Miles.

[Jun] 22.D got up at 1/2 past Six and am going to wright a letter to E.W.Smith.Logan did So and a good long letter gave him all the News took it to post did not get any thing as it was Jubilee yesterday Elder Thomas and My Self have been Reading and Wrighting all day as we aint anything Else to do went to bed at Pant y fer Near Breachfa [#]

[Jun] 23D got up before Seven and finished a letter to Mary & to Jake, and then got breakfast and will go to Post got Card from Llanelly Saying that James Lewis & Wife had Arived on Monday at Eight P.M. also got a good letter from Prest Williams from Swansea giveing good acount of his Travels and told us the Names of Missionarys Come to Wales[:] Davied Gill, Thomas Davies Beaver Co[unty] Wm Jones ["]Salt Lake City" & a Bro Green last two after their Geneology got an Answer to my Report of Our Labors from Pres.'t Teasdale a very Encouraging letter full of good advice and blessings, he being very pleased with the way we do. did Read the Rest of the day Slept at Pant y fer Near Breachfa Carmarthen Shire walked 5 Miles

[Jun] 24th got up about Seven do not feel very well have got a Cold in my head after breakfast I went to post Office did get two papers from Bro Williams had Seen all the News before when I Came home found Bro Evan Morgan had Come to visit us and Spent best part of the day with us we did Read and Conversed about our Mission all day. went to bed and Slept a few Muinutes did wright a letter to Elias Davies also a few lines to Father in it also to James Lewis Slept at Pant y fer Nr Breachfa Carmarthen [#]

[Jun] 25th got up at Seven and got breakfast am feeling better this Morning. will go to post did not get any thing. it his [is] very warm to day not a brease [breeze] going around. wrote a letter to Joney My Son with a Note for my Brothers, to be Posted on Monday the 27th we did Read a good deal of the Testament So has [as] to Store our mind for we are Expecting to have a big crowd to Listen to us. we will Never Repent of being around hear [here] has [as] prejudice has been very great against us but now we are asked to Call with them and get foed [fed?] and they give us food. Slept at Pant y fer Nr Breachfa Carmarthen Shire walked 9 Miles [to day]

[Jun] 26.th got up at Seven am feeling that we are going to have a very good time. after Breakfast we went to Old Brother Morgans and did Eat a bite, went up to our Meeting place as we were going we heard them Sing all Ready for a Meeting their was presant about 100 persons. was Invited to Tea to two places people were very kind to us, and if they will not Come out hear it will be Surprising to me as they listen to us So well and give the best atention we then Came home after a good day thanking the Lord for his blessings Bro Thomas is very Satisfied with Our Labors Slept at Pant y fer Nr Breachfa Carmarthen Shire walked 9 Miles

[Jun] 27.th got up at Seven and will pack up to go for Llanelly from their to Swansea then to Merthyr for Next Sunday Brother Thomas went to post and got Some papers but no letterf for me Bro Thomas asked me to wright a few lines to Apostle Teasdale F.D.Richards wich i did I Seen in the paper that Wm Palmer was preaching in Logan Seen also in the Star that Besler had gone home wished Bro Thomas & Hanah good bye and Started for a long walk took Train from Nan garedid [Nant Garredig] to Carmarthen then

walked to Llwyn y filltir fach and found the Old folks well and very kind to me got Goosberry Tart [for] the first [time] this year went to bed and Slept well all Night at Llwyn y filltir vach Near Carmarthen [#] walked 9 1/2 Miles

[Jun] 28[th] got up at Six got a good wash then then breakfast and an Earley Start for Llwyn Teg and got a little to Eat and Staid their untill three O Clock. then made a Start for Llanelly called at Gwillim Williams and Met Theophilus Davies he had been to Mynydd y Garreg. they told him that it would be best for him to go and See him we made arangments to Paptise him on Saturday Night I will Send to Bro Thomas and let him know so he Can be their bid them good bye & Started again arived at Llanelly half past Seven & found them all well got a good wash and Clean up got a cup of Tea and by that time Wm Davies Sawyer Came to See me I went with him up to his house then to Velin Vole to See James Lewis & Betcey. found them well got back and Slept at Morgan Saunders Old Road Llanelly Walked 15 Miles

[Jun] 29.th got up at Seven and am feeling well am going to Spend the day with Bro Lewis he is Ancious to go to work it is a good feeling. Sister Lewis was not Sick on [the] Sea and She Stood the Journey well went up to John Johns house and met James Lewis their went downtown and met a good many persons[:] Nash the Baker & Seth or Duke went to Sarahs; fox hole[?] then to the Reibys Arms and got dinner went to Griffith Franciss and Seen So Many presants from Salt Lake City went again to the Duke & got Tea with them then Started for Velin Vole Sarah Jenkinss Daughter Mary She had Come from America Met Little Mary Carelms She is a little Widow will Call to See her went up to Velin Vole and got Super of Puding from Salt Lake City & Black Curants from their it was good Met William Michel and got a talk with him went home and Slept at Morgan Saunders Old Road Llanelly [#]

[Jun] 30th got up at Seven and will go around Town with Brother & Sister Lewis I took a walk down town & Seen Gwillims Wife but did Not See him went to James Richards promised to go their to dinner but met James & Sister Lewis went with them to Wm Micheals and had a talk with her and was asked to Come again went to See John Daviess Mother She lives with Marria her daughter the Old Lady is Still very Sharp and feels to keep to the faith. we went in to David Treharns he was well and wished for Me to Send his Regards to Father did Not See Mary went from their to ["]Glen y More" to John Hughes he is Married to one of the Bowens it his [is] a very Nice Family went from their to Maria Hughes on the wern She has Nice two Daughters bid James & Betcey good bye and went to See James Edwards they were well and went from their to Wm Thomas Marthas Father6 William [JT's brother] had Sent him a letter with five Dollars the Old Jent was very Proud of it did Read the letter went Home and Slept at Morgan Saunders Old Road Llanelly

July 1st [1887] got up half past Six and did propose my Self to go to Velin Vole to meet Bro Lewis we will walk to Lougher wished Mrs Price good Bye and Started and Reached Loughor at 12 O Clock got Started for Swansea at 1/15 [1:15] and Reached Bro Williams at two [2:00] found them all well b got dinner and went with Bro Lewis Around Town and went up to E.Daviess Sister found them well and very kind to me as Usal got Tea with them then Came back and went to Bowdens So Bro Lewis Could See Sarah they were well. Bowden was not in we did tell Sarah what Father Said in his letter that I got to day it was Such a good letter I got from Dan & Father and they kindly Sent me [$]10.00 for wich I thank them as I was without any [money] (God) will Bless them for it I know got a very Nice letter from Mary my wife giveing a good acount of things at Home I feel well when I get letters & Papers got papers from Bro Lewis & Jake Slept at 4 Grove Place Swansea walked.6.Miles

[Jul] 2D got up at Seven and got breakfast and in Company with Elder James Lewis went to look for Mrs Crawshaw at the Mumbles7 but She do not live their Now we Came back and was hear again before one O.Clock I went to See Mrs Griffiths [Elias Davies' sister] She had not heard yet from Elias went to visit Bro Thomas Evans the Old Jent feels pretty good and he kindly gave me a Shilling So has [as] to help me along. we will Start for Merthyr at three O Clock we arived at Merthyr at five P.M. Met the following Elders[:] Prest Davied Williams. John Evans. S.R.Brough Morgan Evans David.R.Gill James S Lewis. Corneilus Green. Thomas.B.Davies four of wich have Newly Come the Elders all feel well we had a Council Meeting and I was Called to Labor in the Swansea District with James.S.Lewis & Thomas B.Davies. we had a very good Council as all the Elders Could Not Sleep at Confrance [conference] house Prest Williams James S Lewis & My Self went to the Royal Oak to Sleep and got a Splendid bed. at Merthyr Tydvil did Change My Money Order and Paid a Sovering to Prest Williams and also Paid for my St__[?]

[Jul] 3.D got up at Seven O Clock and felt a Cold in my throat. but it is a little better and I hope it will Soon all leave the Elders all feel pretty well exept Bro Gill he haveing a Cold on his Chest. we had Council Meeting at Eleven O Clock in wich their was much Biusness done and a good Spirit prevailed 1/2 past two we got Sacrament Meeting Bros John Evans & S.R.Brough adminstered in the Sacrament Elder Morgan Evans Spoke & I followed then Elder D.R.Gill & Prest Williams Closed with a few good Remarks at 1/2 past Six Our Night Meeting & Elders James S Lewis Corneilous Green Thomas B Davies & John Evans Spoke with a few Remarks from Prest Williams I assisted in Setting Apart Elder Thomas Evans President of the Pant y pridd Branch also in Ordaining Samuel Gold to the Office of an Elder[,] Elder Morgan Evans [was] Mouth also in Ordaining Edward Thomas to the Office of a Priest[,] I being Mouth we have had a time of Rejoiceing together to day the Saints feeling Splendid Seven added to the Church through Baptism Slept at the Royal Oak Merthyr Paid one Shilling to Sister Thomas

[Jul] 4th [Independence Day in the USA] got up at Seven & the first thing I heard was Bro John Evans Comeing wistling [whistling] yanky Doodle and as Soon as he got through Bro Gill Started a Recitation. then I Read a pice and we all felt well and Sang what we knew of the Star Spangled Banner thinking of what good times they get at home. went up to Dowlais in Company with Elder Thomas B Davies he meet with a good Many friends I Called with John H. Evanss Sister and told her of his Death She felt very bad about [it] and did Cry. I wrote a good long letter to Father and one in it for little Lizzie I have Caught a bad Cold Some were [where] but I Expect it will Soon get away three Elders left to day and Some of them Atended Meeting at the Ceven Morgan Evans & John Evans did preach & they had a very good time I Slept at 98 Twyn y Rodin took Some Composition [medicine] hope to feel better in the Morning walked 8 Miles

[Jul] 5th got up late have been troubled with the Cold all, Night but did Swet and the Cold Seems very bad but think it will Soon get better two of the Bretheren have left this Morning I have wrote a letter to D F Thomas Concerning Rhodah Bishop She will go away with Bro Thomas to the Family in Ogden Bro Robert Bishop has left for the States on last Monday after posting the letter I Bound a Coast & Vest for Bro John Evans and in the afternoon went for a walk around Town Not feeling very Bright but think to be well very Soon went to bed at 98 Twyn y Rodin Merthyr Tydvil

[Jul] 6th got up about Seven and am feeling a little better but not quite well will leave Merthyr this Morning and will visit Mrs Thomas[,] Cally Farm & will try and see all I Can in this District before I go to My Own [district] will go in Company with Thomas B Davies did See Mrs Thomas [at] Cally [Farm] and was kindly Receivied gave her the letter & Read it to her Myself I also took the Ages of Six of the Relatives So has [as] to Send to Sister Rowlands also Seen two Daughters of the Old Ladys Daughter

They treated us very kindly we then Started back for Merthyr & Reached a little after Eight P.M. Prest Williams had Arived also the [Millennial] Stars and in this Number is a letter I Sent to Prest Teasdale8 took a walk up Town and Returned. Slept at 98 Twyn y Rhodin (Merthyr Tydvil[)] walked 14 Miles

[Jul] 7.th got up at Seven Ten Months this time I left Logan for My Mission and will Say that I feel to Labor harder then [than] I have as my time is passing along Swiftly I have Read Some of the Star this Morning it his [is] very good will go to Hirwain & to the Cevn also gelly deg a letter from me to Prest Teasdale is in the Star Started in Company with Elder Davies went to the Ceven Called at Mr James Gold but did not See him his wife Said that he would get thoes Names for Bro Alex Lewis they have is [his] Likeness in the Kitchen. So has [as] all the Old frinds [friends] Could See it. it has a very Nice frame we went from their to Hirwain Met Old Bro Evans & went in to See Old Mrs Rachel Morgans She is very feeble dont think She will live very long She feels very bad that She Cannot hear

from Morgan S Evans her Bro John his [is] going to move in to her house as She Cannot help her Self any. we Cannot understand her talk we then went to Bro Joness and found them all well Exept that Girl of theirs we got a Meeting their at Night with the three Old folks and had a very good time. we both Spoke to the Saints and we Slept at Rachel Morgans Hirwain walked 8 Miles

[Jul] 8th got up at Seven and we got a very Nice breakfast and Started for Neath we walked to Resolven and took Train from their and Arived at Neath about five O Clock P.M. went Over to Mr & Sister Williams found them well after geting a little to Eat and also a wash we went Over to Bro Langs House found things pretty well Maggie has Burried her Baby. we waited untill Bro Lang got Home and we gave him our Message and had quite a talk then we went back to Bro Williams had a Chat with Miss Jones. & the folks Slept at Mr Williams Mellyngrythan Neath walked 14 Miles

[Jul] 9.th got up at seven and got a very Nice breakfast then went up to Bro Eastmans and found them well they have had a letter from the Girls with photos wich are very good and also word from the Son in Rock Springs that he is going to send one pass for his Bro So he Can help to get Father Mother & the Other Daughter Out we Started from their and wished good bye to Bro & Sister Williams & Called at Bro Langs and got a bite to Eat with her then we went to Dynevor Now Bro Davies left me and we parted for a day I took Train for Landore and did Call on my Road to Swansea at 3 Jersey Street but they had no word from Elias yet went to Swansea found the folks at 4 Grove Place well axept Bro Wms he not half well Since he has been to Merthyr went to See the Supt [superintendant of] Police to know if we Can preach without being disturbed but he Could do nothing for us if we wanted to Sumonse them [have a summons issued] all Right. but they had as much Right as we had to talk. went to See

[Jul] 10th got up about Eight and am about well again from my Cold. got a good breakfast and am feeling good we will get a good time to day. Bro Williams is not very well to day hope he will be better Soon. Elders James S Lewis & Thomas B.Davies will be hear to day with us but did not Come as it was Raining we had Sunday School a few presant, at Our two O.Clock [meeting] we had a good Many Saints Most of the Saints bore their Testimony. after wich I Spoke to the Saints then Elder James Lewis Spoke. Bro Williams Said that the police Could do Nothing for us that the Out Side people Could Speak as well as we Can I went after Meeting to Moroni Watts house for Tea Came back and got Our 6 O.Clock. [Jul] 11th got up at Seven and got breakfast then wrote a letter to Mary My wife & also to Sister Rowlands went to See Elias Daviess Sister. they have no Letter yet went from their to Bro Sprouse & got a good dinner with them went again Around town Bought a few Songs and posted a paper to father went to Send Bros Lewis & Davies to the Train they going for Llanelly. got a prayer Meeting in the Evening and did Speak for a while So did Bros Parr & Watts Bro Williams got a letter from the Jarman Leader of theis town, and wants him to have a Publick Meeting with them dont know how we will do [so] untill Bro Williams hears from Prest Teasdale Slept at 4 Grove Place Swansea 4 [Meetings]

[Jul] 12th got up about Seven and after Prayers got Our breakfast

and Intend to go away today. wrote a letter to D F Thomas Stateing I would be their on Saterday I went over to Bowdens but did Not See them they were at a Party went around town was buisse [busy] in the afternoon Makeing a Reply to the Jarman Croud but we will Tie them down that they wont have their Own way about things did wright a letter to My folks at home the two Carries. got a Council Meeting and had a very good Time went again to Bowdens and found them at home they had Read Marys letter and they gave it back to me they Sent their love to Mrs Ann Price and to all the Rest wished them good bye and Started for 4 Grove place & after a while went to bed feeling first rate Prest Williams Not feeling very well hope he will get better Soon. [Jul] 13th got up about Seven feeling good and got breakfast Bro Wiliams had a bad Cough all Night got the Song[,] (God) Bless the Princ of Wales and Sent it away went up to Mrs Griffiths 3 Jersey Street. Elias has not Sent her a letter or they aint had it yet went to See Old Bro Evans the Old Jent gave me Six pence and he did feel good God bless the Old Man he is So good. will wish Bro & Sister Williams good bye and Start for Llanelly by the 3 O Clock train and Arived. [Jul] 14th got up about Seven and after a while got breakfast then went down town Seen John Harry.& Ann Hughes formerly Called at Uncles Thomass he is feeling bad that father or the [Thomas] Boys [JT's brothers] dont wright to him he Says if he was Rich they would do So. went back found to my Surprise that Elders Lewis & davies had gone I got a bite to Eat and made a Start through "Cum Bach" to "Mynydd y Garreg" found them well and very kind to me as Usal. Slept for this Night at Mynydd y Garreg. Near Kidwelly [#] Walked 9 Miles

[Jul] 15.th got up late and found a Cold on my Chest. got breakfast and Started Called at "Llwyn Teg" Staid a few Hours then Started for "Llwyn y filltir" got a little to Eat and found that Elders Lewis & Davies had Jest left for Carmarthen I followed them and Caught them in town. went all around with them and took a bed at the Coffee Tavern. I did not Care to do [this] as I Could have Staid in a House in Town Only for the Boys. got a good bed and slept at the Coffee tavern at Carmarthen walked 10 Miles

[Jul] 16th got up about Seven and got breakfast and Paid the Lady of the house 2/2 for my bed & two Meals it made me feel bad to pay it as my Money is So little went with Elder Davies around town was given Six pence Each with John Stephens went to purchase a few Groceries to take with me to the Value of 3/1 as they Cannot Suport me without Something to help went to Carmarthen Bridg to meet Eli Williams he Came So we wished the Boys Lewis & Davies good bye and we went around town again and we both took Train for Nant garedig he paid for my Ticket & he also gave me one Shilling and we met a very good day to Travel we Arived at about Eight O Clock & found the folks at Pant y fer all Right and found Theophelus Davies their. also Bro Morgans they had got up thier Hay that day we all Staid their that Night. we got a very Comfortable Night together. we Slept three in a bed Eli D.F.Thomas & My Self Slept at Pant y Fer, Nr Breachfa. [Jul] 17.th got up at Seven it being Sunday we got breakfast and did prepare for Meeting Bro Theophelus Davies & my Self went while Bro Thomas & Eli went past Post office we met at Bro Morgans and got a Sacrament Meeting and did feel very well then went to "Cummur du" for Meeting and got a very good Croud, but as Soon as Brother Thomas was through [speaking], it began to Rain and we all had to go in to the house, and after a while we went Out again I Spoke for a little while. it began to Rain Again So we had to Close Our Meeting and Return home So we went to Bro Morgans and got a good Chat Theophelus went Around Some folks houses we went home and had a good Chat. and went to bed three together their was about 75 persons to Meeting One Man Came forward and Offered us a good Place to Preach in his House he was an Enimie Once but has Come Around and Offered us his Houses So we will be able to find places all the time Slept at Pant y fer Nr Breachfa Walked 8 Miles 2 [meetings]

[Jul] 20th got up at Seven and got Ready for a big walk went & posted A[lex] Lewiss letter and Started through Breachfa for Lampeter Called at Benjmin Jones "Pant Skawen" and got Bread & Chees with them we did publish a meeting to be at "Fynnon Nant To" Next Sunday. the Old Jent is father to John D Jones of Cherry Creek Malad [Idaho, USA] we went on and Called at a Cousen of Bro Thomass by the Name of John Jones Called at another Cousen of his a Sister to Mrs Jones Carmarthen we got Tea with them his Name was Davied Thomas, they were very kind to us he is a Carpinter by Trade, we went from their to "pen y wern" to John Evans they were very kind to us, and they did Not have a place for us to Stay over Night So She gave us a Shilling to help us to pay Our Train from Llan y bythar to Lampeter; So we caught the Train and Arived at Lampeter about Nine P.M. found Sister Thomas Maggie & John well, Exept the Old Lady had a Cough Slept at Mrs Griffiths Lampeter a very Nice place to Stay. Walked 13 Miles

[Jul] 22.D got up at Eight as the Lady dont get up very early got Our breakfast and prepared to part from them On Our Journey to pen Cader wished them Good bye the Old lady gave us 2/6 Each to pay Our Lodgins and john gave us 5/1 Each and we felt to bless them for their kindness to us. we Called On Our Road to a Cousen of Bro Thomass and got a Cup of Tea and he kindly told them to be good to me after he would leave and the Old Lady told me their his [is] a place for me to Stay any time I Should pass we left again and Arived at "Pen Cader" about 3.O Clock P.M. went to the House of Thomas Davies[,] Weaver "Glyn Coch" he had Married Rachel Johns [Jones] She was Daughter to Daniel Jones Brother to the Tailors. She Died about two or three years Since She was Mother to Six Chilldren She left four Girls very Nice Girls they Are he Again Married a Cousen of his first [wife] Elizabeth Jones, Daughter to Titus Jones She has One little Girl about 10 and one from her Husband about 18 Months Old they have been very kind to me they have Esther Evans Merch Davidd a Mllie 'Pant y Budran' in Service with them She sends her love to Mary did Nurse [3 or 4 words cut off bottom by Xeroxing]

[Jul] 23.D got up about seven and will Say that I did have a good bed and rested well. got A good breakfast went Out to See the factory A very fine One turning Out good flanell [flannel] went again to send Bro Thomas he going A few Miles on Buiness he has many friends around hear. about Daniel Davies Pen ffin the fourth Son his [is] Married to a woman from Cardigan Shire they have had three little girls one Died two years Old they have one a year & a half Old and the baby 3 weeks. they Seem Very Comfortable I can Stay with them when I go down that way John went to America Came back again and died leaveing a wife & two little Children. the Sister lives at Cap Coch Near Aberdare they gave me her Adress So has [as] to Call on her when I go up that way

[Jul] 26.th got up at Seven feeling pretty well wrote a letter to Prest Williams will take it to post but all at once a Cry Come for us to help the Next farm to get up their Hay So we all Started and as luck hapened we got it up before the Rain Came. we got a pretty good dinner I wrote a letter to Richard Morse Samaria [Idaho] and also a few lines to Elder D.F.Thomas is [his] family. [Jul] 29th got up before Seven and am thinking to wright home but do not know what to wright did Wight a letter to Mary My Wife also to Jake & Nancey & When I took it to Post I got a letter from Prest Williams To D.F.Thomas & When he Opened it it gave us the Sad News of the Death of Our Beloved President John Taylor I Cannot tell you the 'Grief' it gave us to think he Should die Away from the gaze of So Many that loved him as dear as as their Own lives. Another Martyr in the kingdom of Our 'God' we must Say with Job. And also a letter from Geo My Brother with the photo of Lilla & the little.Girl it is Very good. he also sent me One Dollar Bill in it.wich will help me a little. In the afternoon Bro D.F.Thomass Sister & her husband Came from "Ynis Hir" Fern dale they Are very good people & have Invited Me to Call with them. when I go up that way. I lost My Lodgin When they Came So I went to Bro Evan Morgans and got Share of his bed. [Jul] 31.St got up after a pretty good Rest and got a basin of Sop for breakfast The Old Jent is alone So I took what I thought I Could Eat I went Over to Visit Daniel Davies & got a Cup of Tea their [there] & aple pie first this Season Met Bro D.F.Thomas. and went to Meeting at Evan Morgans we were Seven persons presant Brother D F Thomas & My Self did adminster the Sacrament D.F Spoke to the Saints. and I followed after wich Bro Morgans Spoke. Then we Closed & got a little Dinner. It had began to Rain & we thought we would again fail to go to Our Out door Meeting it was to be in a Farm House. Aug 1St [1887] got up at Seven and got Sop again for breakfast. did get a good Many welsh tracts with him. They are Most of them Orsen Pratts works a very Nice lot. [Aug] 2.D got up at Seven and will prepare for a Start.For Llanelly. Bro Thomas Came with Me as farr a[s] "Harreb" but did Not get any thing to post I wished him good bye and Started for Nant garedig Staid for the Mail.to See if their Wasnt any thing for me but their was Not. Took Train from "Nant garedig" to Carmarthen went Around town and bought the Reporter As their was a few lines in it about our Out door Meetings.at Brechfa. I got dinner with Mr Jones Elephant Inn. Then Started for Llwyn y filltir fach & got Tea their the Old Lady was So kind to Me The Old Jent was not at home. Then Started again for "Llwyn Teg" to Stay for the Night but on My Arival found they had no Room So went on to "Mynydd y Garreg" Found them All well & kind as Usal & got Supper plenty of Musharooms they were good to [too] Eli Still thinks to go Away and I think they will All go Away with Me when I go Next year. We had a very good time untill 12 O Clock I Slept Alone this Night at Mynydd y Garreg Nr Kidwelly Walked 15 Miles

[Aug] 3.D got up about Six Could not Sleep very well with flees. Went back by & by and Slept for a Couple of Hours. got up and got a good breakfast. then Staid Around Reading & talking Untill the Afternoon when a Llanelly Cart Come along & I walked to Kidwelly and met the Cart & got a Ride to Llanelly gave the Man /3[D] for the Ride Called at the Reibys and told them about the Clothes went up to Morgans found Mrs Price and all the Rest well got a wash and went up to John Johns found them well. [Aug] 4.th got up after a good Nights Rest at eight and did wright in My Journal all the folks thinks So Much of Lilla's Lickness [photo] heard that Geo My Bro has Sent a letter to Sarah with Lilla's photo. I am very glad they have done So I went down Town & did Call at James Richards he had gone to Stafford Shire went from their to James Edwards So has [as] to press My pants went to dinner to the Rabys Arms they are Expecting a letter from Leon about the Clothes went from their to Sarah Bassets & found them all well

Went back again To Morgans. & got Dinner & wished them good bye for this time and Started for the Station Called at Sarah Bassets She went with me to the Tram & I wished her good bye & by the 3.30 Train left for Swansea. & found Prest Williams feeling better then & all the Others first Rate. went Around Town with Bro Wms & Came Home and got a very Nice Chat About One thing and the Other the two Daviss has been hear and have Started for Merthyr. we May go by the One O.Clock Train to morrow Slept at 4 Grove Place Swansea

[Aug] 6th got up about Seven & got a wash all Over & a change of Clothing and do feel Very Comfortable we did think of going by the 11 O Clock [train] but we Cannot as Bro Wms Cannot get Ready in time. Went to Visit Mrs Bowden & Sarah found them well and feeling Well Over Georges letter & Lillas photo They were very kind to Me this time Went back to See if Bro Wms & Sister Wms were gone. found they had So I Staid until [the] three five [3:05] Train & Started for Merthyr Reached their about five O Clock & found Prest Wms & a lot of the Elders Come I Recevied A letter from Jake & Nancey with the Lickness [photo] of their little baby One for me & One for Mrs Price. ho [Oh!] she is So Sweet Mary also sent me five Dollars Jest in time I am very thankfull to her for it We had Council & all the Elders Reported their fields of Labor was glad to find that their was 4 Baptised for this Month in Monmouth District & One in the Swansea District. [Aug] 7.th got up at Seven haveing Rested good in a very good bed went to the Confrance House got Ready for the Continuanc of Our Council has [as] we did not get through last Night. we done all we Could this Morning the Council of the Branches Started at Eleven O.Clock & got through about One. then we got our dinner. and [at] half past two we got Our Sacrament Meeting. Thomas.B.Davies & I Adminestered the Sacrament & after S.R.Brough & D.R.Gill Spoke to the Saints & we had the Room full. Our Six O Clock Meeting was Not So well Atended but we had a very good time I Spoke first Elder Green Next Prest Williams Next in a good Spirited Manner. and we had a very good day All feeling Well Some of the Bretheren went and kept an Out door Meeting to a Small Crowd five of us Elders went for a walk & I went to the Rehersal of the large Choir of Male voices & it was Splendid It Only Cost me two pence for going in to hear them & I was more then [than] pleased with their Singing. I went to the Confrance House got a bite to Eat & went to My Lodgin Slept at the Royal Oak Inn Merthyr [=]

[Aug] 9.th got up at about Eight and went up to Confrance House. Recevied L1.10 with Elder John Evans towards his Coat Elders D.R.Gill & Thomas B Davies left Morgan Evans & Corneilus Green & My Self are going to leave.this Morning I Recevied a letter from E.W.Smith this Morning and a very good letter it his [is] full of good talk I am very thankfull for it. We Reached Rhymney at about half past three at Sister Ann Williams got a bite to eat then went Over to Bro Patrick Grimleys House found them Well We Came Over the Mountain A Road I was Never [on] before.Now Bro & Sister Grimley are very kind to the Elders & she is a Sister to Sister Parry of Logan and I wish Bro Robert Davies would Raise a little Means So has [as] to help them. we Elders went Around Rhymney & we Selected a Spot we Sang Morgan Evans Prayed I Spoke first in Welsh then Morgan Evans in Welsh then Corneilus Green in English we had a large Crowd to listen & very Atentively we went back to Bro Grimley Bro Green & my Self did Sleep at Bro Grimleys & Bro Evans at Bro Barrets he Not at home Walked 5 Miles

[Aug] 10.th got up kind of late and got breakfast Bro Evans Soon Came and we got a good Chat and by & by Elders Evans & Green Started for Ebew Vale I went to Send them a little way Came back & did have a good talk with Sister Grimley & did wright a letter to Robert Davies Concerning help to Bro Grimley gave them all the News I Could. Wrote a letter to Thomas Jones for her Mother the Old Lady wants to Emigrate & I begged on them to Send for the Old Lady took the letter to Post & Called in to Barrets House & was Welcomed by them he Came home by the 2 O Clock Train Called with Thomas Rees & spent a little time with him then Came back. [Aug] 11th got up at Seven and did get a good Nights Rest and this Morning am going to Start for Ebbew Vale to Meet Elders Morgan Evans & Green Walked over to Tredegar & tryed to find Something about John Griffiths My Uncles Son but failed to get any Clue. at the Top of Tredegar I met an Old Lady a Midwife She told me She had Recevied to the World 18550 Children to the World & Never lost one Lady [mother] through her Labor. On the Mountain I Could See Penyca Victoria & Kendle. Passing through to the Top of Another Mountain I Could See Wainlyggen. Nantyglo. Garnfach & Blaine. I took the Train from Bryn Mawr to Abergavenny. A very Nice City I think it looks So Clean found Thomas Berringtons House No 32 Tudor Street. also found John Price 11 Tudor they were well & very kind to me Bro Cornish lives in this House he thinks to go Away to Utah by the Next Company Prices will also leave in the Spring they have Sent a Son & daughter Out & they are doing well I have in Company with Bro Cornish went all Over the Town & will tomorrow try and find Out Some of Our Relatives Slept at a Lodgin House in Tudor Street Abergavenny [#]

[Aug] 12th got up late as I had a good bed to My Self and went Over to Bro Prices & got breakfast Went Around Town to try and find Out Some of My Relatives & at No 17 Victoria Street found one Cousen A Daughter of Mary My Aunty She is the Only one of the family her Bro lives lives at Riska I will be Able to find Every thing Out through this young Woman She is Married to a Man by the Name of James Morgans a Tall Man Seems to be very kind She is very Sick Jest now has Only been Confined a week I visited them they Seem to be very poor I gave him two Shillings to get her a little wine for her to take this I belive will do me good again. at Noon Bro Morgan Evans Came and we did Visit the Saints and went for a good walk through the fields & had a good Chat Came back Spent Some of the time with Beringtons & also at Prics [Prices] went Home & to bed at the Same place. I was glad to hear they were All Well I also got a good letter from George Morrison with $7.50/100 in it 500 from the [High?] Council & $1.00 from Dan 1.00 from P.N.Peterson & .50 [cents] from Bro Bro Bergmer. With Another 1.00/100 from [Stake?] Prest Smith he is So good to Me & I will Say God Bless him & all the Council & all My good friends & My family. [Aug] 14th got up at Seven & got Ready for to go to Neath. left at 935 A.M. and Arived at Neath & found Bro & Sister Williams Well & heard the News that Margaret Phillips was going to Emigrate wich is a very good thing for her I got dinner with Bro & Sister Williams & we went up to Bro Eastmans for Meeting but Bro Lang did Not Come So I went Over to the Abbey I got Tea with them then in Company with Bro & Sister Lang went to Meeting and got a Sacrament Meeting and had a very good time I Spoke to them on their Dutys & Especialy on Tithing & they Made a promis to do better in that Respects it Seems to Me that thoes that pay their Tithing & live their Holy Religion are the Only persons that are Able to Emigrate. & are thoes that live the best in Every Respect. well the Promise is theirs I have felt well all day in thinking how good My friends are to Me Out in Utah & also in this Country it Seems I have friends Every were [where] thank the 'Lord' for them I Slept at Bro & Sister Wms James Street Neath [#]. 1 [meeting]

[Aug] 15.th got up half past Seven & got a good breakfast . & am going to visit a few of My friends First went to Tamplings found them well they had Recevied a letter from Tom & Mary0 Since I was hear [here] before. [Aug] 16th got up about Seven got a [Utah] Journal with the Acount of the funeral of Prest [John] Taylor also an Adress from Presidents Geo Q.[Cannon] & Joseph F [Smith] wich is very good. With a good deal of Coments on the Statehood. I Wonder how it will Come Out. I went to the Train to Meet Prest Williams he did Not Come. Then I went Up to 3 Jersey Street and Read a letter from Elias [Davies]. and got dinner with them. Left and went to the Station Meet Bro Williams had a little talk with him & went to Hopkin Johns for Tea. Went from their to the Beach the Tide was in & a good Many People was down their Went home and got a Chat about Visiting the Saints we also got Council of the Branch. they are takeing Steps to Clean the Branch of Some of thoes that are dead & wont do any thing for the work Prest Williams his [is] determined to have things Straight and it will be best for all I will Visit Davied Hearn also Geo Watts. [Aug] 20.th My fiftieth Birth day. And I Can Say I am feeling Splendid got up about Seven O Clock got breakfast & went Out with Bro Williams. got the News of Bro John Evanss Release to go home I wrote him a letter to Congratulate him & I also Sent him a little presant a Round Glass with three Welsh Costumes in it I Could not think of a better little presant to him then [than] that. Prest Williams went to Merthyr So has to Rent a Room for Confranc I went to a Sale of Cloth to day a Tailor that has failed & bought Cloth for 3 pairs of Pants.for 17 Shillings No one [No.1] goods. Could not get them in any Store under 30 Shillings Went to visit Bro Thomas Evans the Old Jent feels pretty well he gave me Six pence & I did feel to Bless the Old Jent Spent a good part of the day with Bro Morroni Watts he gave me a Watch Chain that his [is] the Second he has given me. [Aug] 21.St got up about Seven & got a wash all Over and am feeling good & Expect to have a good time to day with the Saints Sent a paper to My Bro James at Eagle Rock got breakfast and at 11 O Clock we got Sunday School nhad very good time Read 21St & 22D Chapter of Luke at half past 2 we got our Sacrament Meeting all the Saints bore their Testimony & after I Spoke for a little while on the their Dutys of the Laterday Saints.with great ease at half past Six we got another Meeting & I thought I would rather hear the Local Priesthood talk So D.J.Watts. Prouse. & Hopkin John Spok very well to [too]. then we went down to the botom of Wine Street to hold Meeting we Sang & we prayed Moroni Watts Spoke & then we Could See the Evil Power Starting in & No Sooner then [than] he was through the Crowd began to push forward & I Atempted to talk but Could Not Some Rough Irish Man Stood up & Splathered [spouted] Some Nonsense & the Crowd yeled to the Top of their Voices & by that Time the Police told Bro Watts to leave as it Was an unessarie [unnecessary] Row So we left. & went Home if they dont want the Gospel allright we have done Our Duty Slept at 4 Grove Place

[Aug] 22.D got up after a Restless Night did dream all Night one thing and another was in great trouble all Night but am feeling very Well this morning as it was a dream have been to Every Train to day to Meet Mrs Price & Prest Williams Mrs Price did Not Come Prest Williams Came by the 2.O.Clock [train] he had Aranged for Confrance to be at the Temperance Hall Merthyr at 10[a.m.] & 6[p.m.] and in the "Garth" Room at 2[p.m.]. their was No letter for me but a paper he did Not bring Spent the day in wrighting a letter to Carrie & little Carrie & with Hopkin John on the Beach & Visiting Old Bro Evans I did adminster to him & the Old Jent did feel much better and we wished him good bye he then Called after Me and gave Me Six pence I Called at Margrettas Sisters House and told her to take her place in the Church & act wise with her Husband & that She will have power with him & May make a good Man of him Went home again and we had a Prayer Meeting and a very good Meeting it was I Spoke a little So did Bro Williams a good few presant got a Silver Coin with Hopkin John went & wished good bye to Sarah & Mrs Bowden. & Slept at 4 Grove Place Swansea 1 [meeting]

[Aug] 28th got up late & got breakfast & a good Read then We got Ready for Meeting at Van Galch as we went Over I did talk a good deal about Tithing to Eli [Williams] & to his Father [Griffith Williams] but it his [is] Hard to get them to Understand that it his [is] their duty to pay it hear [here]0. We Started Our Meeting More presant then [than] I have seen before. We had a very good Meeting. Bro Williams had been to Visit Asa Hughes & Wife they promis to Come and take their places & do better with the Work he will visit Fisher this week also John Jones Llwyn y filltir & try & get them to atend their Meeting better. Eli Williams Came to Send Me I Called at "Wain Baglan" to the House of Asa Hughes & got a Meeting with them told her we will get a Meeting there Next Sunday at two O Clock. Left and Arived at "Llanelly" at five all well. got two Miles & a Half of a lift in a Brewers Waggon. I got a Cup of Tea With Mrs Price. then left for John Johns was glad to find he is So Much better Went from there to Vellin Vole to See if Bro Lewis had Come but [he] had Not. [Sep] 6th got up late and got a good breakfast and will go Around to See Some of the folks will Send a Note to Bro Brough did So. & then Went up to See John John. he Seamed to be better I went from their to Vellin Vole. & got Brother & Sister Lewis to go for a Walk. we Called to See Walter Roachs Sister She is Married to Davied Lodwick he wishes Me to Remember him to Father. Called at the Rabys Arms then at Griffith Francis. [Sep] 7.th One year this Morning I left my Home in Logan. I will Say that many things has transpired Since then but the Most trying to us as a People was the Death of our Beloved President John Taylor on the 25th of July 1887. at Eight P.M. this Caused great Mourning with the People of the Latter day Saints I trust by the time I have finished My Mission I with My Bretheren will be Able.to live in Peace in Our Mountain Home So dear. [Sep] 8.th got up at Seven and got a letter from Bishop Daviedson & a very good letter & full of good talk got a good breakfast & will get Wash all Over then will go to See Mrs Bowden Then go Around to Distribute Hand Bills of Our Meeting at the Albert Minor Hall on the 12 & 13 of this Month When Apostle Teasdale & R S Campell will Preach Will Send a few to Logan of the Bills went to Hox Hall & Distributed two or three Hundred Bills then went Home & had a good talk & went to bed at 4 Grove Place Swansea [=]

[Sep] 9.th got up about Seven & went down Stairs & got a letter from Bro Wm Watterson it was a very good letter went Over to Bowdens had a good talk with Mary Sarah as been gone to gower for a visit for two weeks Mary felt kind of bad becaws Sarah is So Indifrant to Me Went again to Elias Daviess Sisters & got dinner with [them]. then Pressed the two Pairs Pants & got Ready for Neath. Walked to Llandore took Train for Dynefor & Walked to Bro Langs found them well then went Over to Bro Williamss found them Well. So was Miss Jones I Slept at Bro Wmss Neath [#].

[Sep] 10.th got up late and after a good breakfast Went to See Bro Eastmans & found them all well wished them all good bye and Started up Town went to the Market Place & found Bro Moroni Watts had a long talk with him then left by the 15 to 12 [11:45] A M Train for Merthyr and Arived & found at Confrance House a good Many Elders Prest Wms D.F.Thomas & my Self Came in together all the Elders felt well I got a letter from My wife Mary and a very good letter it was we went Around Town & I Bought Me a Hat for 4/11 a very good One We Elders Met All the Trains So as to Conduct Prest Teasdale & Campell to the Confrance House We had Council at Seven Thirty & all the Elders Reported their Labors and we had a time of Rejoiceing together & we had good Instructions by Elder Campell & Prest Teasdale. [Sep] 11.th got up at Seven feeling Well Ready for Our Confrance Went to the Confrance House got a letter from My Brothers James & William with a good Gift of [$]5.00 Wich I am Very thankfull to them for. allthough they Spoke in bad Terms about what I had Sent Home Such as Andkerchifs & Gloves. Now I will be Able to Send them the Same We got Our first Meeting at 1/2 past 10 A.M. in the Temperance Hall Haveing 12 Valley Elders Presant Ho [Oh] it was like Home with them there were Many presant after singing & Prayer Bro D Williams Spoke then Morgan Evans S.R.Brough & Elder Green after wich Prest Teasdale Spoke in a forceable Manner Meeting Closed by Singing & Prayer the 2 O.Clock Meeting was held at the Room of "Gwilod y Garth Inn" after singing & Prayer the Sacrament was Adminstered by D.R.Gill & My Self after wich James.S.Lewis Thomas B Davies. [Sep] 12.th got up at Seven went up to Confrance House. got Our districts I am to Labor in the Cardiff District Elders Brough & Campell will also Labor in the Same district will be at Cardiff Next Sunday. I Started in Company with D.R.Gill & Thomas B. Davies for Glyn Neath & took the Train their for Swansea Paid 1/7 Arived at five O Clock. & got Ready for Meeting at The Albert Minor Hall. we were of Utah Elders, Seven Meeting was Comenced at half Past Seven by Singing I offered Prayer Bro Teasdale Spoke for one & a Half Hour and when he finished then the Anti Mormons Made a big Row. & we did finish Our Meeting & went Home & I told Some of the people that they Could hear us at 4 Grove Place Every Sunday Evening at 1/2 past Six the papers are full of Mormonism & I will send a few of the Papers to Utah I am of the Opinion that this Persecution will do more good in Bringing this Work before the Public & Many will Come to Our Meetings. did sleep at Mr Denis York Street Swansea. [Sep] 13.th got up at Seven & got breakfast & went up to 4.Grove place wrote a good deal in my Journal Took Prest Teasdale & Bros Campell & J.S.Lewis up Albert Road to Cum Donkin Parke & got a fine viue [view] of Swansea Harbour then went up to the Jews Cemetary & they were well pleased with the Vuis [views] of Swansea the Bretheren were very much delighted with Swansea went with Bro Campell to see Elias Daviess Sister & got Tea with them. we again went Around Town. & Spent the day Very Comfortable at 1/2 past Seven we again went to Our Meeting at Albert Minor Hall we did Sing Elder D.R.Gill offered Prayer then Elder Teasdale Comenced & Spoke for a while & the Crowd yeled & made Such a Noise that after he had Spoken about an Hour we had to quit & go Home one thing I will Say that the People of Utah Never in their day acted Such as this but am very well Satisfied it will do good to Our Cause Brother James S Lewis & My self went to No 9 York Street and Slept their (Swansea) Some People followed us to 4 Grove Place & Said they will visit Our Meetings

[Sep] 15th got up about Seven & Sent Some papers Away. & got Ready for to go to Neath. Went after breakfast to the Station Bro Theo[philu]S Davies went with [me] to Send Me. Paid 10D/ for Train Arived at Neath [at] Twenty after Ten. Went to Bro Williamss found them well Bros Gill & Davies had Started So I walked to Aberdulais. then took Train for Resolven So has [as] to Catch the Train Boys & by that got a head of them I loitered on the Road and by & by Bro Davies Caught up with me Brother Gill had got on the train at Glyn Neath for Hirwain & we both walked along & Arived at Hirwain about 4 O Clock. & found the folks all well found their was a place for me to Sleep in Rachel Morgans as Usal. it is So bad to think that Morgan.S.Evans dont Wright to the folks. they are So kind to me I Slept with John[,] Morgan[']s Brother we got a good Meeting at Bro Joness Bros Gill & Davies & my Self Spoke to the Saints & they bore their Testimony I went in Company with Brother Evans & went to my Lodgin Slept at Mrs Rachel Morgans Hirwain [#] Walked 13 Miles 1 [meeting]

Bros Gill[,] Davies & My Self.walked Over I Called at 14 Gadlys Street & as Usal was well Treated. The Eldest Daughter his [is] gone to [work at] a Shop at Bargot [or Bargod] Rhymney Valley wished them good bye & Started for Penrhiwceiber Reached at about 4 P.M. found Bro & Sister Evans Well by & by Bros Gill & Davies Came & we had a good time Singing & Chating after Supper I took Train.for Pontypridd. Called at Sister Evans in Town. found them all well. & went Over to Bro Thomas Evans "Coed Pen Main" & was Realy glad to See them as I have Not been hear for 4 or 5 Months did read Some on the Juvinell [Juvenile] Instructor the first I have Seen Since I left Home Brother Coles Came Over to fetch me as I was going over their to Sleep went to See Sister Bishop. Seen her & Rhoda he has Sent them Some letters he is Working on the Railroad. wished them good bye Slept at Joseph J Coles Pontypridd [#] walked 8-1/2 Miles.

[Sep] 17.th got up a 1/2 past Seven & got a good breakfast will send a paper to Ed.W.Smith & also will Send to Fred My Son in Law I am going to Start for Cardiff Right Away Called at Bro Edwards & got dinner with them. Then Started for a long walk Calling at a village Named Hawthorn then through Nantgarw then Tafs Wells. & through two Other Villages then to Llandaff then I took the Train for Cardiff. Ariveing at Bro Forceys [at] 1/2 past five P.M. found them all well. & very kind as Usal I got Tea & then took a walk to Cardiff & did Meet Bros Brough & Campell. then went back to Cathays. Bro Campell had Nine letters Waiting on him also Some papers. Bro Brough & Campell went to Mr Dimonds Over the Night as their was No Room for us three. I bought a paper & got a good Read as they dont Close hear on Satterday Night Untill 12 O Clock I Went Over to Bro Hyrum Wites [White's] & Invited them to Come to Meetings. She Said She would Come I did Not See him. Slept at Mr Forceys 70 Coburn Street Cardiff[#]. Walked 9 Miles

[Sep] 18.th Sunday Morning. got up late & got breakfast & Now will Wright a letter to Mary. did wright to James My Bro To Eagle Rock. we got a Meeting at 2:30 P.M. and got a very good time Prest Shepton Spoke & Introduced John Thomas An Elder from Utah & I Spoke for a little While thin [then] Elder R.S.[S.R.]Brough was Introduced to the Congregation and Spoke for about 40 Muinute in a Clear Manner then we Closed I Offered the Closeing Prayer. at half Past Six PM we got Another Meeting. The House was full I Presided. & after Singing & Prayer by Elder Watts. I Introduced R.S.Campell from Salt Lake City & he gave a fine Discourse upon the first Principles & the Seting up of 'Gods' Kingdom.in a Manner that is Creditable to a young Man After wich R.S. [S.R.] Brough bore his Testimony to the truth of [the] Remarks Made. [Sep] 19.th got up at 1/2 past Seven feeling good got breakfast and went for a little Walk & bought a paper So has [as] to See what was in it. then went to send Bros Brough & Campell they were going to Pontypool or Newport then I went all over Town also went to the Great Western Rail Road with R.S.Campells Valice & Over Coat it Cost 17 pence to Send it it would pay him better to take the Train & take it along with him. bought Jake a Song Book for six pence will Send it away Soon I have had all my Meals with Bro & Sister Forsey they are very Kind to me it Seems I am lost Since the Boys are gone Away from Me Bro & Sister Forsey & my Self had a long Chat about the Gospel they are feeling well in the Work of the Lord & are very Ancious for to See More Members Join in the Branch I Shall Start to day for New parts of the Town. Cardiff is A Much larger place then [than] Swansea & they Say it takes the best part of the Shiping it Seems Very buisse hear any Hour I Slept at DC Forsey 70 Cobourn Street Cathays Cardiff

[Sep] 21.th got up late & got breakfast and after a while I Started for Bryn Saddler to Wm Morgans House he is going to be Baptised Into the Church he took to me when he first Seen me when their I wrote a few lines to Merthyr to Edward Thomas So he will Send My Mail to Cardiff. Started for Llantwit Reached Mr Davids at 3 O.Clock. found them well & glad to See Me. went after a while in to Rees Jenkins he gave me a Shilling we had a long Chat and a good Sing. Slept at Mr Davieds Llantwit Walked.6.Miles

[Sep] 22[th] got up at 1/2 past Seven and went to Bro Rees Jenkins to Breakfast & got a Nice breakfast his wife is Kind of Tough but his [is] very good to me. Last Night I wanted to post a letter to D.F.Thomas but they Said [that] the post Man had gone So I Said Could I Send it by Train I felt it Should go 'that Night' So they Said Our Post Man is allways to Time So we gave it up for the Night. but Lo & behold a Boy Came to ther dore [door] & Said hears [here's] the Post Man Comes. So I got the letter off Any How & Mr & Mrs Davied Says he was keept [kept] [on] purpose to take My letter. Started for Pontypridd & Called at Tre Forrest at Old Man Edwards & got dinner with them the went for "Coed pen Main" found them all well Went to See Sister Bishop & the Chilldren She lives in Hopes to go to America Soon went again Over to Tre Forrest to See Bro John Jones & got Supper with them then Came back & got a good Meeting with the Saints Slept at Bro Thomas Evans Coed Pen Main Near Pontypridd was given Six pence with John Jones [#] Walked 4 Miles

[Sep] 23.D got up at half past Seven and am feeling Well got breakfast & have Read the Star it his [is] a very good Star one year to day I Arived in Liverpool I Shall be on the Road to Cardiff to day again & will go to the Farm without going to Cardiff to Night. took Train from Walnut Stree[t] Station to Landaff and went Over the Canal Bank to Bro Blagdens & got a little to Eat. found a Lady that is a Relative to Thomas Basset & will visit the folks & likely give them Lots of News went Over to Mr Dimonds & found them all well. Mrs Dimonds & Mrs Thomas are Very Buisse dressing Chickens. Elder S.R.Brough has been hear to day. & gone to see Bro John Evanss Aunty She thinking to Emigrate I have been asked by Sister Dimonds to Stay hear Over Night wich I will. I do not feel to good to day but when I will get a good Rest to Night I Shall feel better. [Sep] 24th got up about 1/2 past Seven & am feeling better then [than] I did last Night did Nurse the Baby for Sister Dimonds while She Made breakfast.& Clean up a little. got breakfast & after a while Started to Cardiff Called at Brother Forseys 70 Coborn Street Cathays & got three letters one from James.S.Lewis Llanelly also from Elias Davies Cache Hill Also from Alex Lewis Logan. & they Say all is well at Home.wich makes me feel good. did Answer James.S.Lewis letter wrote a long letter to Elias Davies Cache Hill also a little Note in it for Father also wrote a letter to Geo Morrison Logan when I Came back from [the] Post [Office] Elder S.R.Brough had Come after quite a long walk he was Tired. I again got Seven of My Photos & Must Send one to Lorenzo & to Wm [his brothers] as they Aint had one of them. I went Around Town with Charles Harris a Brother to Sister Forsey. [Sep] 25.th Got up at Eight.& had a good Nights rest we Expect to have a pretty good day together & trust we will have a good Many Strangers to Our Meeting did write in my Journal & did Read & Sing. and at Noon Elder Brough & My Self Called to See Hyrum Wite & found One of their Children the Baby.in the Measels. they did Not feel to well. After dinner we prepared for our Meeting. Bro Shepton was presant. we had a very good Meeting. Elder S.R.Brough Spoke for a long time & did well. I Spoke for a few Minutes. President Shepton Presided after Tea we did Practis a few Humns So has [as] to Sing at the Night Meeting. at half past Six we got Our Night Meeting & had quite a Nice lot of Listeners I Spoke first axept a few Remarks from Bro Shepton. then S.R.Brough for a While on the Articles of Our faith & I Will Say we had a good time. Bro Shepton gave us a Shilling Each. after Meeting We Went Out for a good walk. [Sep] 26th got up late and got a good breakfast then went up Stairs. Sent a Duet Book to A.Lewis for the Choir Sent a paper with a Star in it to Dan My Brother. then we wished Brother & Sister Forsey good bye & thanked them for their kind Treatment to us. & Started Calling [went to] Sister Dimonds & got a bite to Eat with her then walked to Saint Fagans0 took the Train as it was Raining.for Llantrisaint Junction. & walked to Bryn Sadler Calling at the House of William Morgan. thinking to Baptise him but did Not as he was Not very well. & No Watter in the Pond by his Mother in laws House he has been very low & is afraid to Catch Cold again Elder S.R.Brough Mrs Morgan & My Self Went to the Methodist Chappel To a Thanksgiving Meeting & heard what they Call a good Meeting but good bye[!] what a lot of Nonsense[!]. we got Home & after Supper we got Prayers. and then Acording to his desire we adminster[ed] to Wm Morgan for his Health then we went to bed at Wm Morgans Bryn Sadler. [Sep] 27th Got up late & got a Nice breakfast and a good Chat then Sister Thomas Came from New Mills. She is Mother to Mrs Morgan. & a Splendid Old Lady She is Mr Morgan wants Me to Baptise him So I expect that I will have to Come to this district again Next Month if Bro Williams thinks best. We wished the folks good bye. & Called on Our way at Thomas Williams Llantrisaint. Seen the Old Lady & the Daughter who is Newly Married bid them good bye. & Started for Pontypridd Called at Thomas Evans found them all well got Dinner their and a Read of Bro Gills Papers. then we Started for Aberdare Junction & took Train for Troedyrhiw Cost 5-1/2 pence then walked in to Merthyr. found lots of letters from America. but Not One for Me but got 3 Utah Journals & was glad to get them. we got a good Supper & then A good Read after a while we got Prayers & went to bed but will Say that Bro Samuel Gold got a pass from his Father to go Out and his [is] going by the 8th Oct Company. [Sep] 28th got up late & got breakfast & wrote in My Journal am going Now to gelly deg to See Alex Lewiss folks Seen Davied Lewis & his Son & one of the Girls the youngest. Seen Thomas Lewiss Wife & Children they were All glad to See me & to hear of Alex I Went Next to Richard Daviess he Seems a very Tidy Man. they Were Very Kind I eat Dinner with them. I went from their To Peggey Jones She is So good it Seems She has a Nice Daughter.18 Years of Age. I will have to go up Soon again I went from their to Elizas[,] A[lex] Lewiss Sister She is a good Woman only She has a Mean Husband went Next door to Mrs Adamss She his [is] a daughter to D.D.Davies A very Nice little Woman Only Unhealthy She was Very kind I took Tea with her She has two Chilldren the Eldest a Girl & the Youngest a fine Boy I went again to James Golds the Wife & Daughter was in they were very kind went from their To James Bowens to See James Edwards Daughter She was Jolly Went Home & Seen Bro Adams he feeling much better. [Sep] 29.th got up late as their was No fire in Our Room got breakfast & will wright a letter to D.F.Thomas did So & after a little while left & went by Train to Aberdare. Met Aurgust the Shoemaker & after went to 14.Gadlys Street & found Mr & Mrs Lewis well.& very kind as Usal. got Dinner. then went to Visit Aberamman & Seen Old Sister Daviess Daughter. & got Tea with her. Called at old Mrs Edwards She is Still very Sick. Came back to Aberdare and did Call at Herery Phillips they were Not in then I went to Samuel Phillips & found them all well they are very ancious about Bro & Sister Evans & the Family. This Bro of Sister Evans was Small when She left. he is a fine Man & I do belive he will go out to Utah yet got a Nice Cup of Tea with them they have a fine young Daughter & a very Nice young Boy went again to D.Lewiss he went with me to look for D.F.Thomass Brother he was gone to visit his Brother & Sisters went to visit Argust & he kindly gave me Six pense Slept at 14 Gadlys Street Aberdare[#] Walked.6.Miles

[Sep] 30.th. got up at 1/2 past Seven felling good did get a good breakfast. & after a while went down Town to See all I Could & did again Visit Samuel Phillip[s] found him in & very glad to See me we had a good Chat & a Second breakfast two Boiled Eggs Now I will get fat again. Prest Williams got a letter from James.P.Lowe of Logan he had Come down to Cardiff & wanted to See me So I expect I will go tomorrow I Came to Merthyr by the 20 to 5 [4:40] P.M. Train. & found Bro Morgan Evans had Come Saying the Saints are feeling well in his District I had two papaers from Home Very good papaers but no letters we Spent tyhe Evening Comforable went Around town together & got Some pears with.Bro Gold. [Oct] 2d Got up late & after Prayers went down to breakfast. and am feeling we will have good times to day at 1/2 Past 2 P.M. we had Our Meeting Prest Shepton Presiding after Sacrament the Meeting was given to the Saints to Bear their Testimony & Most all did & So did I. then we gave the Meeting in the hands of James.P.Low Jur [Junior] Who Spoke good upon the first Principles in a very Clear Maner for Nearly One Hour their were Some Strangers presant after Meeting we got Tea with Bro Forseys folks. We again Convened at 1/2 past Six & after Singing & Prayer I Spoke for a few Minutes & again gave Bro James.P.Low the Chance for a good Sermon wich we got. & I am Moire then [than] pleased to hear Our young Men Comeing Out has [as] he has done Bro Shepton was very pleased with Bro Low & So are All the Saints after Our Night Meeting wich was Not very well atended.we a few of us took a walk Around a few of the Streets of Cathays. & Returned to Brother Forseys. & had a Nice Evening together Singing Hymns. & after a while we went to bed at 70 Coburn Street Cathays Cardiff [#]

[Oct] 3d got up about Eight and got breakfast & then went with Elder Low To Llandaff.to try and find Some of Wm.E.Bassets Relatives. found only two of the Bassets but he got Many Names they think.that are Relatives was in the Cathedral0 for the Service also for an Hour looking through the Records. the Rector was very kind to us. left their and Came to Cardiff went up & down the Arcades. they are very Nice. To day I got a Nice letter from My Son John he is feeling good & do Say he will help Father he has Paid for the Store 180 Dollars he also Sent a letter to Sarah My daughter & his little Sister. I also got a letter from Wm Watterson Saying he will be down on the 10th of this Month & he Says he is glad of the Change & that Bro Daviedson would like the Same kind of a Change. They think the Welsh Mission a good One & So it is. I wrote a letter to Carrie & to My little Carrie. & also to Bowden. Spent the Evening at Bro Forseys & at 12 O Clock went to bed at 70 Coburn Street Cathays Cardiff

[Oct] 4th Got up late I got breakfast Some fish it was very Nice. we will go this Morning to Sister Dimonds & get dinner there to day. did not go to Dimonds but went to Mrs Calliss 13 Eclips Street Roath. After went to Leckwith & Seen an Old Lady an Aunty to Mrs Basset & got Some News from her I Sent a letter to Mrs Price Llanelly. & told them my Where Abouts. did have My Sons Photo & also a letter from James My Brother Stateing that Lory0 was Called on a Mission. I am thankfull to my Heavenly Father to think that Our Family Are Comencing to Come forth to the World I will Say with the help of the Lord it will Make a Man of him. I Bought a little Pair of Butoned Shoes [for] 4S/3D for little Carrie & also a pair of Slippers to little Nancey Elizabeth Whalen. I do Send them with Elder James.P.Low he Starting on the 8th of this Month for his Home in Utah we have had good times together this Month So farr. [Oct] 5th Got up at Eight & am wrighting to my Son John. he wants an answer Soon So he gets it. Went Out with Elder Low. & found the Registrar they Charge 5S/. for Every Six hours Search. Then we took a walk down Bute [Butte?] Street. took the Tram back & walked to Cathays. then we Started for Mr Dimonds & got dinner with her Staid for about one hour & went in to Mrs Thomass & Staid for a little While then went to Blaydens & wished the Old Lady good bye then went to See her Other Daughter.whome has been Sick & again Started for D.C.Forsey & got Tea & wrote a letter to My Son John to Alierdice P.O. Montana & Posted it Elder James.P.Low & My Self Staid in the House while Bro & Sister Forsey went for a walk Near Nine O Clock P.M. Prest Shepton Came & we had a long Chat about things. & after a while Brother & Sister Forsey Came. [Oct] 6.th Got up at Eight and had Prayers & as Bro Low was going away he bid All the folks good bye & we Started for the Great Western Station. & their I bid him good bye for the last time on this Old Soil. Seen the Train Start. & then Started for Bro Forsey & got breakfast with them. after wich did wright a few lines to Prest Williams. Telling him how I got along in Cardiff. I went around Town & did See So Many Cheap [inexpensive] Articles that it his [is] Surprising how they Can Sell them went & got a Cup of Coffee & a bun & did Enjoy it Much after wich I Came home & will Read a little as I expect to talk Next Sunday got Tea with the folks. did think to go away Some were [where] but dont See that I Can do any good by it. So I will Stay Untill I get a letter from Bro Williams & I also Expect Bro Watterson about Monday. dont know if he is Sent to me or Not. [Oct] 7th got up at Eight & did dream of My Son Morgan I thought he had Come Over & that Sarah was their & he Kissed her & She was So proud to See him. I Cannot Say What Made me dream of him last Night Unless he is about to wright to me wrote a letter to My Wife Mary also a few lines to Nancey & Jake went for a walk down to Brother Blaydens & got dinner there Sister Dimonds little Girl was Sick. I went Over to Sister Dimonds & Staid for a little while then Started for Cathays Called at D.C.Forseys for a little While & went up Town. Bought two Books one A Grammar.& Classical Geography. also another Book The Rise & Fall Rome Papal. I Only Paid two pence Each. Came back & did Read a little. Went in to Charles Harriss for a little While. Sang a few Hymns. Then Went Up Town with C.Harris got the Weekly Mail [a newspaper] then Came Home & got a letter from Carrie I was very glad to get it has [as] it has been Over a Month Since She wrote to me. Very proud to hear they were all well at Home. We had very good time this Evening Singing Hymns Preparatory to Sunday. [Oct] 8.th Got up at Eight did Comence to Read So has [as] to Post my Self for the Morrow. I Recevied an unexpected Note from Elder S.R.Brough.Stateing he would Not be able to be at Cardiff on Acount of being Unwell So I will have to do the Most of the talking on the Morrow. By the help of My Father [in Heaven] it will be All Right. This Morning I will go up Town for a Walk to See what is going on. Came back & have Read Morgans No. 1.Tract. it his [is] So good bought two Cards. & am about going down to Sister Dimonds for My Garment She is washing it Bought a little Book Entitled Book of Martyrs. Sent Weekly Mail To Bro Joseph Greaves Logan.with a Star in [it]. Started to Wright a letter to Bro Greaves I had promised to Send him a letter. [Oct] 9th Sunday Morning Raised from my bed feeling Well got a paper frome Home. did have a Read. Then got Breakfast & after a Wash in Warm Watter. am feeling So much better for it after breakfast went for a Walk around Town In Company with Charles Harris. Then Returned & had a good time together looking for Hymns to Sing at Our two O Clock Meeting. Was to dinner With C.Harris & at 1/2 past two O Clock.got Our Meetings President Shepton being presant We had the Sacrament & Every One of the Saints bore their faithfull Testimony. Sister Forsey Used to Say She Could Never bear hers but When I Asked her She like like any of the Others did So with pleasure I felt So thankfull to 'God' for giveing her Strenght. we dident have No Strangers to this Meeting. at Half Past Six we again Came together. their was Nine Strangers One young Man Came full of Jarman Devil & Interupted Our Meeting but I began to Speak and Under the Influence of the Holy Spirit untill Every One of them were Jest as quiet as they Could be One of the young Men had the loan of the Book of Mormon. I also lent an other book to them of Bro Broughs to them wich will give them Some light on the Subject I do

[Oct] 11.th Got up Kind of late & am feeling Well got a good breakfast. Will prepare for a Start to day for New Mills will Call at Sister Dimonds & get a few things that has been Washed Will also Call at Hyrum Whites to See the little Children did So & found little Purley better Allthough the Doctors had given her up. Told Sister White to go forth & live her Holy Relegion & Recevie the Blessings of the Lord. Sister Thomas was very good & Went Out to Sleep So has to give Me Room this is the Second time She has done this for Me we had a good time. [Oct] 12.th Got up at Eight & am feeling good Got breakfast & little Chat Bros Gill & Davies gone to Brin Sadler to See Mr & Mrs Morgans will Come back again and let us know Concerning their Baptism they Arived & to Our Joy Said that Mr & Mrs Morgan were Ready & they had found a place to Baptise them So I dressed My Self & we went to a Nice place I went forth & did Cut away Some Briars & did Baptise Wm Morgan & his Wife Cathrine Morgan. then we Went.Back but the best of It [was that] Bro Thomas B.Davies brought with him Elder Wm Watterson & I will tell you I was glad to See him he his [is] feeling Well. & had the pleasure to See a good days Work done. [Oct] 13.th Got up at Eight O Clock & did Rest well & after breakfast went to Sister Thomass Tre Gwillim & Cut for her a pair of Sleeves for a vest. Wish Sister Thomas good bye & also Wished Bro & Sister Morgans good bye & thanked them for their Kindness to us. prayed the Lord to bless them.With A Testimony of the Gospel & I belive he will Soon as they are Honest. Called at Llantrisaint & had a little talk with Old Doctor Price. he Told me to Call again with him. Bro Wm Watterson & My Self Called with Thomas Wms he wasent in So we left & Started to Lantwit and Called at Bro Rees Jenkins House She Kindly told us She would light a fire in the Room for us to Wright So we Staid and are Treated very kindly got Tea with her. I wrote a few lines to Sisters Watterson a little of Our History they All went to A Thanks giveing Meeting So we had a Very good time together we Went Over to Mr Davieds & got a bite of Bread & Chees & Often thinks the Old folks Should be blessed of the Lord. [Oct] 14th Got up about Eight O Clock & were asked to Breakfast to Bro Jenkins & She has Kindly lighted fire for us So we Can Wright a little befor we leave I am feeling well with the folks I have Sent a few lines To Prest Williams We Are Expecting Elder S.R.Brough up to One O Clock P.M. he has Not Come So we will Start for Cardiff. got to Bro Blaydens About 5 O Clock P.M. & got Tea with them Bro Watterson thinks the Saints are very good to Us Elders Started Again for Cathays found Bro Forsey & family Well & very kind as Usal. Went in to Visit Charles Harris & Wife found them Well. [Oct] 16th Got up late & Went down Stairs & got a letter from Father & A few lines from Dan. A very good letter with Promises of help that will be allright when it Comes. Very glad to hear the Ward has been So good to give the folks Some Hay. & that the Quorum is So good to Me. Dan Says they will pay My Taxes. We Expect to have good times to day with the Saints in Cardiff 230 P.M. we had Our Meeting Elders Blayden & Watts Local.0 Adminstered Sacrament after wich the Saints Bore their Testimonies. then Elder Wm Watterson adressed the Saints & I followed him. & we had a very good time 630 P.M. We again got a Meeting Bro Watts Spoke first then I Spoke. & Elder Watterson Spoke for A few Moments had two young Men. desireing to know Concerning Joseph Smiths Mission.they haveing heard So much falsehood. it will be hard for them to Belive the truth. [Oct] 17.th Got up about Seven & went to finish a letter to Joseph E Cowley Logan got breakfast & am feeling Very Well & will go up Town to See what is going on Bro Watterson has wrote a letter to his Bro in Law went down to the Docks. and back to town got a Cup

of Coffee & Some little to Eat went back to Cathays & did finish a letter to Carrie & little Carrie I think it is one of the best letters I have Sent yet We did Adminster to Bro Forsey['s] little Girl She is in the Measels. & So his [is] little Freddy Harris. Prest Shepton Came to visit us & Kindly gave us 2/6 Each in a little While he went wishing us good bye for this time had a good talk with Sisters Forsey & Harris the Men had gone to the Concert Bro Watterson is very buisse Wrighting he is taken up with Cardiff & is very Much taken up with the Kindness of the Saints of Wales. [Oct] 18.th Got up late got breakfast & did wright a letter to S R Brough. Told him how we are geting along. and want to know of him if he will be at Cardiff Next Sunday. if Not we want to get Some Adresses from him So has [as] to visit Other parties who do want to hear us preach. Went up town took 15.L to the Bank for Brother Forsey. Then we went back and did visit the Sick Children Went down to Sister Dimonds & got Tea Staid their about two Hours then Called at Bro Blaydens then went up to Cathays & wrote in my Journal got two letters one from Prest Williams Stateing that S.R.Brough was to Swansea. & for us to Labor in this District for this Month. The Other from Merthyr Stateing that old Sister Williams Was dead. am Sorry I did Not know when the Funeral was to take place. [Oct] 19th Got up about Eight & got a paper from Prest Williams wich Cost me 3 pence they had Opened it. & found a little Note in [it] So that will learn [teach] us a lesson to Send [our mail with] Corect [postage] we Administered to little Freddie Harris I Anointed Elder Watterson was Mouth I wrote a few lines to Edward Thomas 'Merthyr' & thanked him for Sending me word.of the Death of Sister Williams we wished Bro & Sister Forsey good bye also Bro & Sister Harris & Called at Sister Dimonds also at Bro Blaydens & got a bite to eat before Starting on our way to New Mills Reached about 1/2 past five P.M. & found Bro & Sister Thomas well & Kind as Usal we got our Supper & a good Chat & Bro Watterson did Read out of the Voice of Warn[ing]0 & went to bed. & a very Comfortable place it his [is]. at Richard Thomas Tre Gwillim Near New Mills

[Oct] 20th. Got up at 1/2 past Seven & after a While got breakfast the News Came of the Death of Miss Mary Fothergill in her 92[nd] year of her Age. She is the Missis [Mistress] of Bro Thomas he has Worked for the Estate.about 26 years &. the Lady was very kind to him all the time House free also Paid for their Coal We wished them good bye and am going on our way to Wick through Cowbridg Called at Brother & Sister Morgans So they Know we are passing found them feeling well wished them good bye & Started on Our way to Wick. Reached their about half past five P.M. & found a very kind Old Lady & Jenteel Man they have been in the Church but are Out for So Many years. but they are feeling Jest as good towards the Work as Ever. His Name is Richard Williams & the Old Ladys Name is Mary [Williams] we did Not get a Meeting as their was Meetings in the Church & also a Revivalist at the Methodist Chappel. So we went with the Old Man to the Methodist [meeting] a good deal the Same as Usal with them went Home got Bread & Milk for Supper Slept at Richard Williams Wick. Walked 13 Miles to day

[Oct] 21.st Got up at half past Seven & after a wash we got our Prayers first I Read the 1st Chapter of the 'Acts' Bro Watterson offered up Prayer then we got breakfast & at half Past Nine Started for our 11 Mile Walk. Staid [rested] on the Road Several times & did lose My little Testament Hope to find it again arived at 'Bryn Saddler' at Bro Wm Morgan found them feeling well. We had a good wash & a Nice Cup of Tea. & did feel Splendid Over our walk this day it Seems we are geting very Exelent wether. I have given one of My Photos to Bro Morgans. we will be going to Weik [Wick?] on the first of November. We adminstered the Sacrament to Bro & Sister Morgans & also gave them Some good Instructions & they felt well we again got Some to Eat. & thought we had better go for the Night to Sister Thomas to Stay Over Night. wich we did wished Brother & Sister Morgans good bye & left Our blessing with them. & Started to Bro & Sister Thomas & found them well & we had a good talk & after Prayer we went to bed.after a very Comfortable day. [Oct] 22D Got up at Eight & got breakfast & made a good Start. at half past Nine. & took Our time to walk to Cardiff Arived at Sister Dimonds about 2.P.M. and got a Cup of tea & Started for D.C.Forsey and found them well exept the little Girl who is down in the Measels & She is geting along very well. Got four letters One from E.W.Smith a very good letter & One from A.J.Jones. also a letter from Richard Morse also from Geo Hibbard.Stateing that their is a lady hear who is Comeing Out to Utah as they Say. Richard Morse is Comeing on his Mission So that will be good for Me at Llanelly Bro Watterson got a very Nice letter from his folks with Some good News.Saying.that we will become a State I trust it will be the Case. We went up Town Went all Over & we got a good Meal for four pence all we Could Eat. I bought a Tape for Carrie. wich I will keep for her Untill I go Home. I got two papers from Alex Lewis Went Home & had a good Chat with the folks Elder Wm Watterson is geting to feel well with the People. [Oct] 23D Got up at Eight and am Expecting good times to day.with the Saints after breakfast we went up Stairs & I wrote a long letter to Bishop Robert Daviedson. & gave him Some acount of our doings Since we are together & a little News of things in Jeneral. at Noon I went to C Harriss for dinner Bro Watterson Staid at Forseys. 1/2 past two we had Our Meeting Prest Shepton Presiding Elders Watts & Blayden adminstered the Sacrament. Meeting was Opened for Testimony & all the Saints bore their Testimony after wich Elder Watterson Spoke to the Saints & I followed him we had a good time together at half past Six we had Our Night Meeting Started. after Singing & Prayer. Prest Shepton Spoke for a lenght of time and very good. then Elder Watterson Spoke Upon our doings in Utah & did very Well. then I Started & spoke as I was led Upon Many points & felt well while I was talking. Read a letter wich Was Sent to Prest Shepton Concerning Sacrament the way it Should be adminstered & in what Manner. they do differ a little in this Branch Elder Watterson & Myself were given one Shilling Each by Prest Shepton. [Oct] 24.th Got up late or about 1/2 past Eight Bro Watterson Cannot Sleep in the Morning So he gets up to wright.as he Sends a letter away Every week to his folks. I have been Wrighting to My Wife Mary also to Jake & Nancey. We have been Up Town & took little Willey Forsey with us & bought him a little watch two pence half penny. wrote a letter to Prest Williams. & Recevied two letters one from Jake & Mary My Wife and I will Say I was very pleased to get them.as I had been Expecting [them] for Over two weeks glad to find they were all well. got a letter from Josuah & Sarah Jones formerly of Treorkey Rhondda they Kindly Sent me two Dollars that I lent them. & they are pleased with their New Home. I have to day Wrote a good long letter to My Wife Mary & to Jake & Nancey & to their little Girl Bro Watterson has been Sending lots of little letters away to his Chilldren. It is So good to be able to talk with the little Ones. [Oct] 25.th Got up this Morning with a Cold on Me dont know how I got it unless it was in that Meeting Room on Sunday. after breakfast I went & found Richmond Road No 4. & Seen Mrs Hibbards Neice. Bro Watterson & my self went up Town & Spent a few Hours Comfortable looking at the Sights. then Came back & did Read the Utah Journal. Met a Man that had a lone [loan] of a book with Elder Brough I told him to Keep it a little longer. his Wife had been very Sick So had his Children Wanted us to Excuse him Said we would with pleasure went to bed at 70 Coburn Street. [Oct] 28th. got up 1/2 past Seven feeling Well & got a late breakfast. went up Town & all Over. went to Splotlands to See Some of the folks asked them to atend Meeting on Sunday got my Umberalla Mended for Six penc. Came Home and did Wright a long letter to Father & Dan. Bro Watterson Wrighting to Bro Yeats. did eat one Meal up Town to day posted Fathers letter & went up Town for a Walk Came back had lots of fun with Charly Harris through Eating 'Chitlings' or Pigs gut.of Course if I was to think what they were I Could Not Eat them for anything. Bro Watterson did enjoy it you bet Slept at 70 Coburn Street Cathays Cardiff

[Oct] 29th. Got up at Eight. & Bro Watterson brought me two letters one from Carrie & a very Nice little letter it his [is] Only Small. Saying that Mary has given her five Bushels of Wheat out of 30 I am glad She did. it Makes one feel good to hear Every thing is all Right I had a letter from Rachel Williams Llanelly with Henerys Adress will go to See him to day. Was Treated with Jest a fine Bunch of Grapes by Sister Forsey. Bro Watterson is wrighting to James Hobs. we were thinking to go up Town but it Rained So we did not go Went to bed at 70 Coburn Street Cathays Cardiff.

[Oct] 30th Got up to Answer the post Man. got a letter from Logan to Bro Watterson with Very good acount of things at Logan. it his [is] Raining all day dont think we will get Many to Meeting as it his [is] So wet did wright a long letter to Fred & Mary to Rexborg. was to breakfast at Charles Harriss got dinner at Bro Forseys got a Meeting at half past 2 P.M. it was So wet So we did Not have Many to Meeting we had very good times at four O.Clock Miss Edmunds Came to Visit me. So I went with her to her Brothers to Tea & had a good Chat & they Came to Our Night Meeting we had Eight Strangers their two young Men that has atended for 6 Sundays

& had taken great Pains to Wright up lots of Slanderous things wich had been written by a D.D.Cannaby in his Book Upon Utah. Bringing Up the Old Spalding Story Concerning the Book of Mormon & it Seems they prefer beliveing that Scum then [than] Our Testimony So what they have Read of Our works may yet Work Upon their Minds if they are in Search of the Truth. We had a good time Prest Shepton Spoke first then Elder Watterson. then I Spoke for about 3/4 of An Hour & quoted a good deal of Scripture on the Princples of the Gospel. Prest Shepton gave us two Shillings Each for wich we felt thankfull. he took my Hat in Mistake & left me a Splendid one Instead after Meeting Bro Watterson & My Self Went for a walk then got a good Supper with Bro & Sister Forsey in Company with Bro & Sister Harris then in a while we went to Bed. at 70 Coburn Street Cathays Cardiff [#]

P.S. One of the young Men Asked the previledg [privilege] to Speak a few Word So we granted him So to do. but he Read this trash wich took about 20 Minutes to No good but to Strenghten the faith of the Saints

[Oct] 31st Got up about Eight & after breakfast Went & took Brother Sheptons Hat for him. he was Not in but his Son was So I got my Hat & the Son had a good laugh at his Father lossing [losing] his Hat Called at Henery D Williams 119 Castle Road. he aint worth Calling on then went back & wished Bro & Sister Forsey good bye & thanked them for their kindness. Called at C Harris & wished them good bye & Started Called & posted a paper to Fred & Mary with Neck Lace in it I hope She will get it. Called at Sister Dimonds & we got dinner their. & then we Started & Called & bid good bye to Sister Blayden then on the Road. & Reached Bro & Sister Thomas Ty Gwillin New Mills found them good & kind as Usal. Old Mrs Fothergill did Not leave any thing for Bro Thomas allthough She had promised. We had a good Chat about things & he feels like he would go to Zion & thinks best for his Son in Law to go first wich is a good plan after Super & Prayers we went to bed at Ty Gwillim New Mills. at Richard.Thomas. walked 10-1/2 Miles.

Nov 1.st [1887] Got up at Eight & after breakfast we got on Our way to Bryn Saddler last Night and Morning it Stormed awfull the Wind was Terrible & they Say that their was a good Many [ship] Wrecks we Called at Bro & Sister Morgans found them feeling pretty well we Started for Wick & Reached their at 5.P.M. & found Mr & Mrs Williams Kind as Usal & after a wash & Clean up we got Ready for Our Meeting the people began to Come & at Seven O Clock we had a large Crowd from 40 to 50 to hear us we began by Singing Hymn on page 138 & the people Joined with us. then after Prayer I gave a wlesh [welsh] Hymn Dyma Geiduad ir Calledig. & they Sang it good. then I preached in Welsh for 3/4 of an Hour with Ease & the best of Atention was given. then Bro Watterson Spoke Very good & Spiritual. & we had an Exelent time after meeting we Read out of the Star Some facts About Utah & that pice [piece] did please the people very Much after Supper we went to bed at Richard Williams Wick. Walked 12 Miles. Sent a letter to Merthyr Concerning Our Mail

[Nov] 2D Got up at Eight & had bread & Milk for Breakfast. It is very Stormy & we will likely get a wetting. at 10 O Clock we Started & had Many Showers from Wick to Cowbridg But after that we got it fine to Our Journeys end & arived at Bro & Sister Morgans at 2 O Clock got Dinner with them I have had a wet foot for two days. So I thought best to Wright to Bro Forsey & get him [to] Make my Shoes Soon left Bro Morgans & went Over to Bro & Sister Thomass & found them feeling Well & after a long Chat & Supper went to bed at Bro & Sister Thomas Ty Gwillim New Mills. Walked 12 Miles to day.

[Nov] 3D Got up at Eight and got breakfast & will Start on Our Journey to Pontypridd wished Sister Thomas good Bye. & Started. Calling at Lantwit at Bro Rees Jenkins Mrs Jenkins was very kind & we got dinner with her then Called at Tre Forrest found all the folks well Arived at Coed Pen Main at Brother Thomas Evans found all well. got Some to Eat & Called to See Sister Bishop. found them Well went to Meeting got a very good Meeting. Most all the Saints presant went Home to Thomas Evans & went to bed. Walked 8-1/2 Miles.

[Nov] 4th Got up at Eight got Our breakfast & went to Town & posted a letter to Wm Morgans Bryn Sadler. & wanted him to please Send My Clothes to Merthyr. Called At Sister Mary Ann Evans. & got Some dinner with her Then we Returned to Bro Thomas Evans & went Over to Visit Sisters Bishop & Coles. & wished them good bye. & Started for the Junction & at half Past four P.M. we took Train for Merthyr, & arived at five O Clock. found Theophilus Davies. in a little while Elders Brough & Evans Came fro Town I got four letter papers No letters. Bro Watterson got two letters. Local letters I Read a letter from John Evans late Missionary. a very good letter after a good Chat & Supper.we went to bed. but will Say I Read a good deal of Confrance News & it was Jest as Sweet to me as Any thing I Could get to Read it was Prest Wilford Woodruffs Discourse at [General] Confrance Went to bed at 98 Twyn y Rhodin Merthyr Walked 4-1/2 Miles.

[Nov] 5th Got up at Eight & got our breakfast & got One paper this Morning again No letter Bro Watterson got one from home. all well with him had Seen Carrie & the little Girl Sister Watterson Says. I got My Shoes from Bro Forsey the price is 12/[S]. & I hope to be able to pay for them Soon I also got My parcel from Bryn Saddler it Cost ./6[D] Elder Gill & Davies Came also Prest Wms we had Council & found out the feeling of the the Branches got a wash all Over & went t bed at 98 Twyn y Rhodin Merthyr.

[Nov] 6th Got up at Eight & after breakfast we Continued Our Council up to the time the Elders were Comeing to District or Confrance Council. wich Comenced at 11 A.M. when all the branches were Rep[resented] their is a very good feeling prevailing in all the Branches & the Saints are on the Impro[ve] we again got together at half past two. Elder[s] S.R.Brough & My Self administered the the Sacrament. then Prest Williams Spoke for a little while & the Meeting was turned into a Council. & it lasted untill 1/2 past 4. then we went to Tea. & at Six O Clock we had Our Night Meeting Elder Watterson

Spoke first then I followed. after Wich D.R.Gill Spoke. & then the Meeting Closed. after a good Read & a long talk Concerning Utah becomeing a State. Elder Watterson & Myself went to the Royal Oak Inn.to Sleep as their was no place at Confrance House. Started to Wright to Carrie & Intend to Send her a good long.letter. Am feeling Well & had a Splendid time to day.[#]

[Nov] 7th Got up Soon after Seven & went up to To the Confrance House as we had to have Council. So we did and all the Elders were given their districts John Thomas Swansea. Morgan Evans Monmouth. S.R.Brough & Watterson Cardiff. D.R.Gill & T.B.Davies. Pontypridd Theophilus Davies to Visit Relatives & Saints where he Choose. did finish a letter to Carrie 14 Months to day I left Home am feeling well Prest Williams was feeling Splendid this time I gave him all My News papers to go with him we Elders atended Branch Council with good Sucess Slept at 98 Twyn y Rhodin Merthyr Tydvil.
