After marrying SARAH, HENRY moved to a homestead at Cuba, near Sherman, Jackson County, West Virginia, and was listed as a farmer there in the 1880 and 1900 censuses, although a 1900 Jackson County publication mentioned that he "worked at coal mines in Ohio even after moving to West Virginia."  SARAH was the daughter of William Stanley.  The Stanleys came to West Virginia from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.  HENRY was still living in the Sherman area in 1912.  He died of pneumonia at his home.  HENRY and SARAH are buried in McPherson Cemetery, Jackson County, West Virginia.

The family was living at Abel's Houses in Dowlais when WILLIAM was born.  They had moved to Tramroadside by the Gellifaelog Bridge when WILLIAM was listed in the 1851 Welsh census.  He died of pneumonia and was buried on May 1, 1852, at the St. Tydfil's (parish church) burial ground.  This was actually the second such site; the original site at the church had been filled.  This was largely a result of the 1849 cholera epidemic.

The family was still living by the Gellifaelog Bridge in Dowlais at the time of JOSEPH's birth. DELILA was the daughter of CALVIN M. and MATILDA RUNION. JOSEPH and DELILA settled first in Clifton, Mason County, West Virginia, on the Ohio River.  All seven sons were born there.  JOSEPH was in charge of the Monroe Mine on the B & O Railroad for nine years.  The family later moved a short distance down the river to West Columbia, West Virginia, where JOSEPH operated a small coal mine and a store.   He finally moved to Portsmouth, Ohio in 1899, where he worked for the Drew Shoe Company.  He died at home following a bout with pneumonia.

JOHN was a coal miner and could neither read nor write.  His first wife, RUTH HUGHES, was a neighbor in Clifton, West Virginia, in 1880, the daughter of Welsh parents.  RUTH was living with her mother MARY and brothers MORGAN and JOHN.  RUTH died in childbirth.  LUCY, JOHN JOSEPH's second wife, was the daughter of JULIA WILLIAMS from Wales.  (JULIA's father, THOMAS WILLIAMS, was listed as an 80-year-old 'coal miner' (!) in the 1880 New Straitsville, Perry County, Ohio census.)  LUCY could read and write, according to the 1900 census.  In 1900 an adopted son, 15-year-old JOHN FITZGERALD, already a coal miner, was living with the family.  JOHN JOSEPH died of tuberculosis after being weakened by influenza.  LUCY suffered a stroke sometime before about 1920.  For the rest of her life she could barely walk or talk.

WILLIAM was a coal miner and, unlike his brothers JOHN and DAVID, was able to read and write as of 1900.  He died of 'apoplexy' according to the death certificate; other sources said stomach cancer was the cause.  His grand-niece, Audrey Joseph Post, remembers traveling as a girl of six with her grandmother on the train from Shawnee to Buckingham to visit WILLIAM.

DAVID was married and widowed before the age of 40.  He was also a coal miner and living with his parents, WILLIAM and ANNIE, in Shawnee, Ohio, in 1900.  Like his brother JOHN and their parents, he could neither read nor write.  DAVID died of 'consumption; tuberculosis.

ISAAC and MARY ANN were married at the parsonage of Shawnee Methodist Church.  In 1904 they were living in Pleasant City, Guernsey County, Ohio.

WILLIAM and MARY ANN were living in Pleasant City in the 1920 census with two of William's sons by his first marriage.  MARY ANN died from a fall down the stairs at her home.  She is buried in Shawnee Cemetery, Perry County, Ohio, next to her first husband, ISAAC.

CHARLIE was the adopted son of WILLIAM and ANNIE and living with them in Shawnee, Ohio, as a 16-year-old coal miner in 1900. His wife, SUE, was a 1905 graduate of Shawnee High School.  Their son, WILLIAM (probably named after adoptive grandfather WILLIAM JOSEPH), was a 1925 graduate of Shawnee High School.

In the 1880 census for the Grant District of Jackson County, West Virginia, MISSOURI is listed as 7-year-old ZORA.  MISSOURI died of a cerebral hemorrhage 'while loading wood in the stove to boil water.'  EPHRAIM, known by his middle name of FRANK or by his initials E.F., was the son of James and Ursula (Montgomery) Conner (b. Dec. 1842 (WV); died 1914 (Jackson County, WV); buried McPherson Cemetery.  FRANK'S nickname was Skunky, and he was a fur trader at one time.  After MISSOURI died, FRANK married Katie Powell (b. 1875 (Ohio), d. 1950, buried Willlowdale Cemetery, Jackson County, West Virginia), daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Powell from Powell Hollow, both born in Ohio.

May, 1874, Ohio; died about 1906.  MOLLIE MARIE was born April 4, 1905.  CHARLES and LAURA are buried in the Ravenswood Cemetery, Ravenswood, Jackson County, West Virginia.

CHARLES was a coal miner who worked for a time in the famous XX Mine in Shawnee.  CHARLES was listed as running for the office of Salt Lick Township clerk in 1933.  MABEL was a 1915 graduate of Shawnee High School.

RACHEL lost her third child in 1918 because of the Spanish Flu.  She also became very ill from the flu but recovered.  Soon after the birth of her fifth child, RACHEL became sick and died of lobar pneumonia.

About 1908 DANIEL went West and worked on the Northern Pacific Railroad for about a year.  DANIEL was a coal miner during the 1910's and owned a small coal mine, the Joseph Mine, with his brothers CHARLES and FRANK in Shawnee. He later worked in the brickyards in Shawnee for a number of years.   He moved to Columbus, Ohio, in the early 1940's. During World War II he worked in the Curtiss-Wright aircraft factory, and after the war he worked on the New York Central railroad.  A number of years later, DANIEL married ETHEL BATES, an English teacher at Shawnee High School.  DANIEL died from a head injury after falling off a ladder while painting at his home in Columbus in 1963.  He is buried in Grove City, Franklin County, Ohio.

FRANK also worked as a miner.  Second wife HESTER was a 1945 graduate of Shawnee High School.  HESTER later married JOHN HARPER and they still live on the old Joseph Mine property in Shawnee.

ANNIE died of 'rheumatism' (rheumatic fever).  The death certificate gives Annie's age as 3 yrs, 10 months, and 17 days, which would mean a birth year of 1903.  The tombstone says 1904, and is inscribed with "Budded on earth to bloom in heaven."
