Biographical Sketch of Moses Jones, Woolcarder, Manti, Utah

Taken from "History of Sanpete and Emery Counties, Utah", p. 138 [there are some errors]:

"Jones, Moses M., of Manti is an expert workman in constructing and running carding mills. He was born in Montgomeryshire, North Wales, June 4th, 1826. He learned his trade of wool-carder in his native country, whre he also joined the Mormon church in 1862 and emigrated to Salt Lake in 1869, where he was employed over two years by Brigham Young at 4 dollars per shift to work in the Deseret Woolen Mills. From there he went to Provo with John Hardin and they put in eleven mills for the Provo Woolen Mills. In 1875 he came to Manti and for twenty-one years was employed in Christofferson's Mill. In June 1897 he took the Peacock Mill and is engaged in rolling wool for spinning. He was married in Provo in 1872 to Christina Ferry, by whom he has three children, Abram, Quendollan and Sophia, all of whom are grown up and living in Manti."

Moses Jones left a wife and six children in Wales when he immigrated to Utah in 1869. According to his descendants he sent money to his wife so she and the children could join him in Utah. But Ann Jones did not share her husband's enthusiasm for the gospel and remained in Wales. None of their children ever left Wales. But in 1932 some of Moses's great-grandchildren were baptized into the Church. And at present there are nearly two hundred of his descendants who are members of the LDS Church. Most of these are in Wales, but a few are in the United States.
