May 10th 1889
At Bridgend stayed there until the afternon Bro Thomas visiting some of his relations that were intending to emigrate to British Columbiathis summer, went to Southerndown in the evening Stayed over night with one John Thomas a cousin of Bro. J. Thomas. A year ago today I left Smithfieldin company with Samuel Nelson both on a mission to Great Brittain and while thinking of that well remembered day the following came to my mind

Strayed from the shepherd’s fold
11 At Southerndown until the the afternoon Southerndown is a small village in the Vale of Glamorgan on the sea coast a very pleasant summer resort near the Castle of Donreaven the present seat of Earl of Donreaven I took a walk in the morning along the Cliffs near the Castle. In the afternoon we went to St Braids Church yard Bro Thomas geting some genealogy of his folks there, went to Wick in the evening stayed at Williams’s over night
12 At Wick Sunday we were calculating to hold an open Air meeting but were prevented owin to the inclemency of the weather, held a meeting in Williams’s in the evening had very good attendence the people listening attentivly stayed at Williams’s over night
13 At Wick Bro Thomas left for CardiffI accmpeneyed him part of the way then returned to
Wick, not feeling very well I was advised to drink some of the Sea watter went down on the sea shore about two miles from were I was staying drank 3 glasses of the watter walked a little along the shore then returned to the house and wrote a letter to Prs. S. R. Brough
14 Went down on the sea shorea and drank 4 glasses of the salt watter, what I had taken the previous day not taking any effect reurned to the house and wrote a letter home
15 Went to sea shore again drank 6 glasses of watter I also took a bath it being a nice warm
day after walking along the coast a while viewing the remaines of wrecks in th shape of timber and Sheet iron and rivits and iron ore lodge among the rocks returned to the house
16 Went to the seaShorereturned another way in my travels saw some trenches that had been dug in time of war for defence in a field on the coast and also some surrounding the remings [remains] of an ancient building in the Village
17 Stayed in the house raining reading and writing some in my Journal
18 Left Wick en route to New Mill going through Landow. Cowbridge. Brunsadler. And Pontelown arreiv ing in Newmill in the evening at Sister Thomas O. K. it was a pleasent Summers day a little to warm for walking very far Stayed at Sister Thomas over night
19 At Newmill Bro T.B. Davies and John Evans and Bro Jones Pris of the Pontypridd branch and a few of the membrs came to Sister Thomas in the afternoon held a Sacrament meeting there after which we went to Lantrisant and held an outdoor meeting after meeting was over I reurned to Newmill Stayed at Sister Thomas’s over night
20 Left Newmill en route to Cardiff called to see Brother Bladen and famely on the way about two miles from Cardiff it was a very warm day and walking through the dust was not very agreeable with a parsel in each hand stayed at Bladen’s until the cool of the evening then went to Cardiff arriveing at No. 5 Mark St about 8 o clock met with my fellow laborer Bro. Jinkyn Thomas there O:K whom I had parted with a week before at Wick both stayed there over night
21 At Cardiffuntil about noon then Brother Thomas and I went to Cadixton to see Bro Bridgeman called on the way to see Sister Pickett at Llandock returned to Cardiffthe same night
22 At Cardiffall day
23 Left Cardiff en route to Merthyr called to see Brother Bladen on way stayed there for tea continued on our way to Penterch when we got there we told the people we met in the streets that the Latter day Saints would hould a meeting there if the people would come togather stayed there quite while but could not get a croud togather so we left and went to Efeil Isaf to uncle Howells Brother Thomas and I stayed there over night
24 Bro Thomas left for Merthyr in the morning I went to Newmill in the afternoon to Sister Thomas’s to get a book which I had left there returned to uncle’s in the evening Stayed ther over night
25 Left uncle’s on my way to Merthyr walked to Aberdare Junction rode from there to Merthyr
when I arrived at the office had the pleasure of meeting Bro Daved T. Lewes from Spenishfork for the first time, he had been in North Wales Since he arrived in the Country about 2 months ago
26 Sunday At Merthyr attended Saboth School at 98 in the morning also Saints meeting 2.30 we had a good time in our meeting the fruits of the Spirit were made manifest one of the Bretheren spoke in an unknown tongue and gave the interpretation thereof another prophsayed. I also
attended the evening meeting
27 At Merthyr at the office most of the day baught a couple of pair of drawers for which I paid 7s also two pair of socks 2s Coller 9 In the evening I wrote a reply to a letter which I received from home
28 At Merthyr I was intending to leave but I had taken som clothes to be fixed the Tailor went on the spree & I could not get them in time to do so while at the office I herd a row in the Street I went to the door. Saw a man beating hiswife the woman had a baby in her armes, the man or the brute I should say got hold of the woman’s hair and knocked her about the face and head pulled her down to the ground by her hair & beat her while on the ground some woman pulled the brute away from his wife and picked up the baby which had rolled down the Street and took it away
the whoman got up and acused her husbant of having somthing to do with another woman, the man got to her again and beat her terrible and at last knocked her down the woman got up told the same thing over again the man knocked her down again this was repeted several times at last the woman went down the street a few roods but she continued to accuse her husbant of the same thing
29 At Merthyr in the morning went to the Tailor’s got my clothes and got ready to start took the train at Merthyr rode as far as Glyn Neath walked from there to Neath stayed at Sister Williams that night
30 Went from Neath to Swansea called at Bro Prouce’s in Landore stayed there until the evening then went to Press Watts’s house he was not home had gone to Llanlly [Llanelly]. I went to No. 17 Parke Ststayed there over night
31 At Swanseain the morning baught a suit of cloths for which I paid £1 s15 d0 Started up the Calley called at Brother Prouce’s went from ther to Clydach stayed at Mrs Mathews over night
June the 1 1889 Went from Clydach to Pontardawe left my parcels at Mr Hopkins and went to Alltwen to look for Brother Morgan went to his Father’s house but he was not there had gone to Ponterdawe I waited there until his return stayed a while with him then returned to Pontardawe stayed at Hopkins’s over night
2 Sunday Brother Morgan and I went to Neath visited Williams family and also Brother Eastman’s stayed at Sister Williams over night
3 Went to Brother Eastmans got a number of tracts that had been left there started for Pontardawe going allong the old parish road from Bryn Coch tracting the few houses allong said road arrived at Alltwen O.K. Stayed at Hopkins’ over night
4 At Pontardawe wrote a letter home
5 Brother Morgan and I went to Llancuwc [Llangiwg] distributed a number of tracts and notifyed the people that we would hold a meeting in the open Air in a certain place at the appointed time quite a number had come togather, they listen very attentively returned to Pontardawe stayed at Mr Hopkins’s over night
6 Brother Morgan and I went to Swanseaon bussines visited Pres Watts a also Brother Prouse
both stayed No 17 Park St
7 At Swanseait being a fine warm day we went to the sea shore and had a bath in the salt watter after which we felt refreshed. Went back to town and baught a suite of cloths for which I paid £1 s15 d0 Brother Morgan & I stayed at No. 17 Park St over night
8 At Swansea in morning Bro Morgan wiching to have a look a the market we took a walk around and through the market place we were surprise to see the quantity of meat & vegetation that was there for sale and other things went to Pontardawe in the afternoon calling at Brother Prouse’s on the way and also Brother Morgan’s Father’s house at Alltwen went from there to
Hopkins’s stayed there over night
9 Sunday both went to Neath held a meeting with the Saints at Brother Eastman’s the few
Saints that were there felt well and bore a faithful testimony to the devinity of the work which they were ingaged in and stated there determination to continue faithful to the end of there days had a good time togather and felt that we were well paid for coming to meeting Brother M & I stayed a Sister Williams over night
10 At Neath Witmonday Brother Morgan and I were invited to visited Miss: E. Jones went there stayed most of the day the house was located in a good place so as to command a good view of the street were the Sunday schools of Neath were walking it was rather a cold disagreeable day for the ocation stayed at Sister Williams over night
11 Started from Neath togather Brother Morgan going through the glise to Alltwen I went to Swansea having recieved a letter from Pres. Brough informing me to go there on business to see Sister Parr and family stayed a No. 17 Park St over night
12 At Swanseavisited Pres Watts got some information from him which I neaded and also
some money from the branch to take up to Merthyr stayed at No. 17 Park St.over night.
13 Started up Valley calling at Landore to see Brother Prouse and also called at Clydach to see
Mrs Mathews arriving at Pontardawe in the evening O.K. stayed at Mr. Hopkins’s over night
14 Went to Alltwen called at see Brother Morgan both started for Merthyr to atended Council
went as far as Clun near Resolven stayed at Mrs James Davies’s over night
15 Walked to Resolven got on the train there met with Bros A. Davies & W. D. Leigh on the
train coming up from Millford to attende Concil at Merthyr on our arrival in Merthyr met with all the Elders at the office that are Laboring in the Welsh mission met togather in Council and to
give the reports of our labours since the last Council. also met togather in the evening to report
to Pres G. Teasdal our labour during the last 3 months
16 Sunday the day appointed for our district meting. held at the Temprence Hall Merthyr attended meeting at 10-30 in the morning Pres G. Teasdale was present and also 21 Elders from Utah laboring in the welsh Mission

17 At Merthyr Attended the council meeting at the office at which we recieved our appointments I was apointed to labour in the Swansea district in conection with Brother E. S. Morgan
18 At Merthyr in the morning after preaparing a good supply of tracts we started for our field of labour took the train at Merthyr and rode as far as Neath we were to heavy loaded with tracts to walk very far when we arrived at Neath Bro Morgan went to Alltwen I went to Melyncrythan to see sister Williams and family also visited Brother and Sister Eastman stayed at Sister Williams over night
19 At Neath visited Brother Eastman’s he and wife and Son were going to Start for Utah
on the morrow the 20 inst he wished me to stay and see them off safe stayed over night at
Sister Williams’s
20 At Neath in the morning went to the Station to see Brother & Sister Eastman & son off wished them goodly they left feeling firstreat I went back to Williams’s got my parcels and started for Pontardawe calling at Alltwen to see Brother Morgan then went to Pontardawe stayed at Mr Hopkins over night
21 At Pontardawe Brother Morgan and I went around with tracts and notifyed the people that we
would hold an outdoor meeting in a certain place that evening. quite a crowd came togather and listened very attentivly. Stayed at Hopkins’s
22 Went to Rhudyfro [Rhydyfro] tracted the Village and some of Farmhouses in the neighbourhood and notifyed the people that we would hold a meeting in a certain place in
Village on the morrow Sunday the 23 inst returned to Pontardawe in the evening stayed at Hopkins’s
23 Brother Morgan and I went to Rhudyfro Sunday according to appointment to hold an open air meeting quite a number of people came to gather at the appointed time and listened very attentivly returned to Pontardawe Stayed at Hopkins over night
24 At Pontardawe in the morning Brother Morgan and I attended the funeral of his cousin in
the evening she was buryed at Llanguwc[Llangiwg] Church yard
25 Brother Morgan and I went to the Glais went from house to house with tracts and told the people we would hold a meeting in the open air that evening near the Lucas Armss at the appointed time quite a number came togather we thought about 200 they listened attivly and kept
good ordor with the exception of one young man who had a little to much bear in him after the meeting we distributed a number of tracts there were several questions asked by some man who thought himself sombody and wanted to make himself conspicuous which Bro. Morgan replyed to to the satisfaction I thought of most present. We were there conversing with the people until

26 Brother morgans and I went Ynisymwn to visit an old friend of his stayed there to assist with
the hay making returned to Pontardawe
27 Went to the Same place and assisted with the haymaking
28 Brother Morgan and I went to Rose Kilbebull [Rhos Cilybebyll] went from house to house tracting and notifying the people that we intended to hold an out door meeting there that evening
but at the apointed time there was but few that came togather, we postponed our meeting for a
week retrned to Pontardawe Stayed at Hopkins’s
29 Bothe went to Swanseaintending to meet with the Swansea Saints on Sunday Stayed at 17 Park Stover night
30 Sunday at Swansea visised Brother Williams and family stayed there a while and had dinner with them also met with Pres Watts at Williams’s went from there to Bro Prouce’s the Saint did not hold a meeting that day because they had not a convinent place to do so and they not met togather for some time Brother Morgan went to Alltwen in the evening I went to Neath stayed at Williams’s over night
July the 1 1889
At Neath bought two new shirts for which I paid s. 2 d. 6 they were very thin ones the weather was so warm I could not stand the flanel ones had a good bath and put on clean clothes stayed at Williams’s over night
2 Left Neath in the morning went to Alltwen called to see Bro Morgan stayed with him a while then went to Pontardawe stayed at Hopkins’s over night
3 Brother Morgan and I went to Craygtrebanws went from house to house tracting notifying the
the people that we would hold a meeting there that evening quite a number came togather at the
appointed time and listened attentivly returned to Pontardawe stayed at Hopkin’s over night
4 At Pontardawe Stayed in the house most of the day reading recieved the Star in the morning and a letter from home and also two papers wrote a letter home in the evening.
5 Brother Morgans and I met at a certain houre at Alltwen went from there to Rosekulbebull
and held an open air meeting there according to appointment which we had made a week previous quite a number came togather and listened attentivly returned to Pontardawe
6 Brother Morgans and I went from house to house at Alltwen tracting and also notifying the
people that we would hold an open air meeting at a certain place on Sunday the 7 inst
7 Sunday went to Alltwen called for Bro Morgans stayed with him for dinner then went to were we intended to hold our meeting quite a number came togather and listened attentivly after meeting we were invited to take tea with one Lewis Lewis who has opened his house for the Elders to hold meetings in while there some of the neighbors came to inquire ????????????????
8 At Pontardawe went to Alltwen in the evening to see Brother Morgans
9 At Pontardawe we are having quite a change in the weather it has been raining all day we have had about six weeks of dry weather the Country was get very dry and water very scarce
10 At Pontardawe Still raining Brother Morgan called to see me in the morning he had been to
the Doctor he had a swelling in his knee the Doctor lanced it for him it contained blood and water wrote a letter home
11 At Pontardawe in the morning called to see Aunt Rachel she was very sick. Went to vissit my cousin Hanna at Pen y Ryw Farm stayed there until th 19

20 Left Pen y Ryw went to Pontardawe stayed there a while then went to Alltwen called to see Brother Morgan went to Neath in the evening stayed at Williams’s over night
20 At Neath in the morning raining heavy stayed there until it cleared off a little
21 Sunday At Pontardawe the weather not being favorable for outdoor meeting raining
very heavy Saturday evening we thought it well not to go around and notify the people
and then be disapointed
22 At Pontardawe having recieved a letter from Pres S. R. Brough wishing Bro Morgan or I to go to Swanseaon bussines we concluded that I would go.
23 th Went to Swansearaining petty heavy now and agan during the day called at Mrs Mathews
on my way down the old Lady was not feeling very well the rest of the folks were feeling pretty
well. also called to see Brother Prouse at Landore went from there to Swanseastayed at . 17

24 At Swanseavisited Pres M. Watts and atended to the business which I had come to Swansea

to see uncle John stayed with him over night.
25 Left Cwm Clydach went to Pontardawe as I expected to find some mail there for me
went from there to Alltwen called to see Brother Morgan Stayed with him a while went from
there to Neath on my way to Merthyr to attend Council stayed at Williams’s over night
26 Started up the Vale of Neath called to see Mr. James Davies that was living near the Clun Tin
Works stayed with him for dinner continued on my jurney along the road to Hirwain took the train from there to Merthyr sleped at the Royal Oake
27 At Merthyr at the office at 98 attended Council meeting at 2p.m.
28 Sunday at Merthyr attended meeting at 10.30 in the morning another 2: also one at 6 pm.
29 At Merthyr attended a council meeting at 10 a.m. when the Elders recieved there apointments I was apointed to labour in the Swanseadistrict in connection with E. S. Morgan
30 Left Merthyr for my field of labour got on the train at Merthyr in company with Elder A. Evans and S. R. Brough Brother Brough was going to Ireland to preside over the Irish Mission he had laboured in English and Welsh Mission nearly 3 years Brother Evans was going to labour
in Carmarthen. I rode as far as Glyn Neath walked from there to Neath stayed at Williams’s over night

9 Went to Pontardawe recived a letter from home and also some papers made a reply to the
letter in the evening
10 Went to Alltwen to see Brother Morgan met him near the house coming down to Pontardawe
commeced to rain very heavy we went under a railroad bridge to shelter stayed there about 2
howers then went to Pontardawe
11 Sunday not favourable for holding outdoore meeting stayed in the house reading went to
Alltwen in the evening to see Brother Morgan
12 Went to Alltwen called at Cilhendre Farm they were cuting ots assisted to bind the rest of
the day called to see Bro Morgan on my way back to Pontardawe he had not been out that. had a
pain in his knee
13 Brother Morgan and I went to Clydach distributed a number of tracts in the Vardra and part
of Clydach went up by the uper forge to Cwm Clydach called at uncle John’s went from there
over the mountain to Pontardawe
14 At Pontardawe Brother Morgan and I had made arrangements to meet at a certain place and go to Clydach to tract but it rained very heavy the forenoon and most of the day. Stayed in the house reading
15 Went up through Rhudyfro and over the GwrudMountainto the Beting to visit Aunt Mary
intending to stay there over night but the house was being repeared and there was not a convenient place to stay there after super I made a bee line across the country for Pen y Ryw to
cousin Hanna’s crossing the uper end of Cwm Twrch arriving there about 9 pm. O.K.

17 Left Pen y Ryw went to Pontardawe calling at Thomas Morgan’s Ystalyfera on my way down
stayed at Hopkins’s over night
18 Sunday went to Alltwen to see Brother Morgan thinking that he might have made an apointment for meeting Somewhere that day the weather being so changeable he had not done so we both went to Neath in the afternoon stayed at Williams over night
19 At Neath we took a walk around town and went a little ways up the Valley to see the Llantwit Church & Church yard which is very old some of the inscriptions on the toom stones dating back to the year 1617. returned to Williams stayed Hopkins’s over night
21 At Pontardawe raining in the house most of the day received a letter from home containing an
ordor for $40.00 made a reply to the letter
22 Went to Alltwen to call for Brother Morgan having previously arranged to go out tracting when weather would permit. it came to rain stayed with Brother Morgan at his Father’s until the evening
23 Brother Morgan and I went to Clydach delivered a number of tracts and held several converssations on the principels of the gospel returned to Pontardawe in the evining
24 Both Went to Swanseacalled to see Brother Prouse at Landore also visited Pres Watts in the
Market place, stayed at 17 Park Stover night
25 Sunday at Swansea Pres. Watts had promised to try and make arrangements to have a meet-
in the evening but did not succeed. went up to Brother Prouse’s to dinner stayed there until the
evening, while there Brother Morgan and I blessed the infant daughter (Beatres.) of William Prouse Bro Morgan being mouth. returned to Swansea stayed at Park St.
26 Went to the Mumbles a small fishing town 6 miles from Swansea a very plasant summer resort. returned to Swanseaatended a council meeting at Pres Watts’s house Brother Morgan
Presiding. Brother Alma Watts who had been disfellowshiped a few months previous for drunkinness wished to be admited into the Church by Baptism Pres Watts made arrangments
to do so. Brother John was excommunicated from the Church for transgression which he would
confess and by his own request after council Brother Morgan and I blessed and named the infant daughter (Eadith) of Pres Morroni Watts Brother Morgan being mouth, at 17 Park Stover night
27 Went to see Sister Morres from Salt Lake Citywho was on a visit to England and staying at her uncle Mr ???? Bond St.stayed there until the afternoon then started for Pontardawe calling at Bro Prouse’s on the way arrived at Pontardawe O.K. stayed at Hopkins’s over night

29 Left Pontardawe going up Swansea Valley en route for Merthyr went as far as cousin Hanna’s stayed there overnight
30 Left Pen y Ryw in the morning went to Ynyscedwyn Station took train from there to Coilbreyn about 4 miels walked from there to Merthyr going over the mountains going through Ystradfyllde going down into Cwm Taff at Ynisy Fylun 6 miels from Merthyr arrieved in Merthyr about 7pm feeling somewhat tierd it was very warm all day and I had walked a good deal more than I ought to have done in trying to find out a shorter route. A compiny of Saints left Merthyr this morning about 6 am en route for Utah they were not all residents of Merthyr but from different parts of Walesthere was only three from Merthyr and one returning Missionary Thomas B. Davies from Bever. 27 in all left [check the Millenial Star for info on who]
Aug 31st At Merthyr atended Council meeting in the afternoon most of the Elders were present we reported our labors during the past month and received our apointments for the coming month
Sep 1 1889 Sunday at Merthyr atended the general priesthood meeting in the morning. Sacrament meeting in the evening received some good instructions during the day and
there was a good spirit previling
2 Left Merthyr about noon in company with E. S. Morgan it being cloudy and looking like it would rain we took the train at Merthyr rode as far as Neath Bro Morgan going to Alltwen. I stayed at Neath over night at Williams’s in ordor to get a bath & change of
3 At Neath the forenoon visited Mr Evan Evans Suprintendant of police Mother’s cousin after a plesant interview with him left Neath for Pontardawe called at Bryn Coch Collery to see Henery Symms Engineer formerly of Pontardawe or Alltwen he was very glad to see me on account of his of acquintance with Father he had been driving the pumping Engine there for 18 years and his Son David the winding Engine. went from there Pontardawe calling to see Brother Morgan at Alltwen stayed at Hopkins over night
4 At Pontardawe in the morning went to Alltwen in the afternoon called to see Brother Morgan he had gone to the Buildings tracting stayed at his Father’s until his return then returned to Pontardawe

12 Went from Cwm Clydach to Pontardawe uncle John coming with me part of the way it was
one of the warmest days that I had felt since I have been in the country. went to Neath in the
evening en route for Merthyr to attend Conference which was to be held Sunday the 15 inst met Bro Morgan who had come ahead of me stayed in Neath over night
13 At Neath in the morning Brother Morgan and I went up the Neath Valley a few miels and
stayed at James Davies’s over night
14 After brakfast started to walk for Merthyr went as far as Hirwain rode on the train from there to Merthyr attend council meeting in the evening at 98. Pres. P. Teasdale was present
and also all the UtahElders laboring in the Welsh Mission
15 Sunday attended conference which was held at the long room of the Star Inn Merthyr commencing at 10am. we held 3 meetings during the day there was a few Anti-Mormons present but they did not create much disturbance one of Jarman’s agents at the close of a meeting presented a letter to Pres Teasdale from Jarman Pres Teasdale tore the letter to pieces and said he did not want to have anything to do with such a man we had some good instruct ions and counsel during Conference and there was a good spirit previeling
16 Attended council meeting in the morning at 98 David R. Gill was released to returnes home he had been laboring here a little over two years
17 Left Merthyr in company with D. Lewes en route for uncle Howell’s going down the Taff Valley left Brother Lewis at Davies’s Church Village I went on to Efeil Isaf found uncle & Aunt
enjoying pretty good health and glad to see me
18 At uncle’s all day stayed in the house reading also wrote a letter home
19 Went to Traforest called to see William Williams & family formerly of Alltwen returned to uncle’s in the evening
20-21 & 22 At uncle Howell’s and neighborhood presented uncle with a welsh Book of Mormon

23 Left Efeil Isaf in route for Merthyr going along the Cannel bank from Ponty Prudd to Merthyr
stayed at the Office with Pres Morse over night
24 Left Merthyr on the 12 o clock train it being raining I rode all the way to Neath stayed Williams’s over night
25 At Neath until nearly noon then left for Pontardawe called at Alltwen to see Brother Morgan

26 At Pontardawe there is a Fair held here annually on this date I met some of my old acquentances there also Cousin Hanna and her husband there were meny thousands present during the day
27 At Pontardawe in the house most of the day wrote a letter home
28 At Pontardawe in the morning went to Alltwen in the evening to see Brother Morgan both went to visit a fraind which was favorable to our doctriens returned to Pontardawe
29 Brother Morgan Sunday and I went went to Swanseavisited most of the saints, in the evening
attended the rebaptism of Bro Alma Watts which was performed by Bro William Prouse confermed & ordained at the edge of the watter by Bro E. S. Morgan both stied at 17 Park Stover night

Oct 1 1889 Brother Morgan and I went to Birchgrove tracting went from there to Neath (Brother Morgan going to Alltwen) stied at Williams over night

17 At Swanseawent to the sea shore and out on the Pear at the end of which was a large steamer
laying which ran aground the night before in trying to go out to sea when the Tide was not high enough went to the Station to meet Pres R. Morse who was coming down from Merthyr he wanted to meet with the Swansea Saints but Pres Watts was not successful in getting a place to meet in Pres Morse left on the 4-20 train for Llanlly Brother an I going up the Swansea Valley I stayed at Mrs Mathews over night Morgans going to Alltwen
18 At Clydach until about noon then went to Pontardawe
19 At Pontardawe received a letter from home made a reply to it in the evening
20 Sunday at Pontardawe in the morning went to Alltwen in the afternoon met with Brother Morgan and according to appointment held a meeting at Mr James Lewis’s house

26 At Pen-y-Rhiw in the morning went to the funeral of Mrs Rachel Mathies to Tu yny Coed Chapel in compeny with David Williams Cousin Hanna’s husbant. The old Lady was 65 years of age and an Aunt of Robert Harman from Salt Lake Citywho is on a mission in Walesat the present time
27 Sunday At Pen-y Riw a very rough day blowing very hard all day also raining some visited Cousin Rachel and famely in the afternoon who is living in a little Farm house called the Henglen near Pen y Rhiw
28 Left Pen y Rhiw en route to Pontardawe arrieving there O.K. in the afternoon there was a letter there for me from home containing the sad news the Monerinlaw was very sick made a reply to it that evening
29 At Pontardawe went to Alltwen in the afternoon to see Brother Morgan he had gone to Swanseawaited at his Father’s place until his return in the evening

7 At Pontardawe received a letter from Pre Richard Morse stating that shortly after I left Merthyr on the 5 inst he received a letter containing his release to return home to leve Liverpoolon the 16 inst Alma C. Davies from the Welsh Mission is also released to return home the same time. Alma M. Mathews to succeed Pre R. Morse as Pres of the Welsh Mission
8 At Pontardawe in the morning went to Alltwen in the afternoon returned to Pontardawe at night
9 Brother Morgan and I went to Swanseacalled to see Bro Prouse on the way down stayed a 17 Park Stover night
10 At Swansea(Sunday) as soon as brakfast was over we went to the East Docks to see
the Steamer Missouri which had come in the night before this was the Vessel which saved the
passengers of the Denmarkabout 800. when she went down. Visited the saints the rest of the day stayed at Park Stover night
11 At Swanseastayed at our lodging the fore part of the day replyed to a letter which we had
received from Pres. Morse also sent for some tracts. went out in town and out on the Pear to get a little Sea Air. bough a book History of Denmark. Sweden, and Norway, for one shilling 1s stayed at the same place over night
12 left Swanseagoing up the valley called to see Sister Prouse on the way went to Alltwen with Brother Morgan from there to Pontardawe
