Thursday Dec 6th 1850 - Ordained an Elder under the hands of President William Phillips HP and Henry Evans. Also testified in White Lion Hall to a large congregation of Saints.

Sunday 8th - Preached in Georgetown Hall.

Wednesday 11th - Attended a large Saints' meeting in Georgetown.

April 23 - went to Abernant y Groes Farm to copy the lease of Aberaman Baptist Chapel, was in a meeting in the chapel and slept at Cefn Pennar Farm,

April 26th? - Saturday morning went through with Bro. Sims to Aberdare and on following day witnessed Bro Phillips baptizing 2 ministers & 3 of their members where there were about 1500 people present, had good & crowded meetings all day.

May 8th - ordained Bro. Thomas Richards a teacher in the Merthyr Branch.

May 9th - visited Cefn Branch Council

May 11th - confirmed Wm Rogers in Merthyr Branch.

May 14th - confirmed Mary Johns in Ynysgau Branch while visiting their saints' meeting.

May 18th - visited Aberaman & (witness Brother Phillips baptizing seven) hundreds present, we held a meeting in the Baptist chapel & confirmed two viz. Anirin Jones & Daniel Griffiths (Confd. Anirin wrong but he was conf & [illegible]) Confirmed Sarah Aubrey in Merthyr Branch.

June

June 1st - Sunday visited Cwmbach Branch to examine books. we found things in a very confused state, preach in the afternoon & evening.

June 4th - preach together with Bro. Harris in William Jenkins house shop keeper Merthyr Tydfil to an attentive congregation.

June 5th - preached out in Georgetown.

June 8th - attended Cefn Coed Cymmer where there was a new room opened present Pres. Phillips, Davies, & many other Elders

June 10 - visited Georgetown Saints meeting with Br Phillips and confirmed Lewis Jones & Gwenlluan Byron (by the name of Amelia) had a very good meeting.

June 12th - attended council meeting at home (belonging to Pendaren Branch) Bro Phillips, Evans, Roberts & Sims & many officers of the above branch present.

June 13th - visited Georgetown branch council Bro Phillips & Evans & others present President Phillips taught many very important subjects, &c.

June 15 - at Merthyr Branch all day attended to the sacrament &c had very good meetings & instructions from President Phillips & others.

June 16 - attended Merthyr Branch council meeting about ½ past 3 o'clock after been in the funeral of Brother John Davies of Gellifaelog Branch.

June 18th - visited Ynysgau English Branch Saints meeting, gave some instructions to the saints.

June 19th - attended White Lion Branch instructed the saints in Welsh. Bro Phillips & others present, very good meeting one confirmed.

June 21st - Rec'd a letter from Bro. Elias relating the death of Sarah my sister in law to be buried today.

June 22 - attended Merthyr Branch all day. preached in the evening & had very good meeting

June 24th - General Conference

June 25 - in the funeral at Cefn (Sister Richards)

June 26 - Merthyr saints meeting

June 27 - visited Georgetown council meeting

June 29 - Gorllwng Branch Dowlais was opened, preached in the afternoon & had very good meetings all day.



July

July 2nd - visited Georgetown saints meeting

July 3rd - attended Merthyr meeting

July 4th - Ynysgau council meeting

July 5th - Council belonging to the conference Bros Phillips, Pugh & Campbell from Salt Lake was present

July 6th - Conference very large congregation ? in afternoon to 3 places all full

July 7th - General Conference for 5 hours.

July 8th 1851 - attended council in Ynysgau until a late hour where some matters belonging to Cwmbach branch were settled. Bro Phillips & E. Edwards were present - the branch being in another bad state.

9th - attended saints meetings in Georgetown Branch where there was one confirmed

10th - attended Merthyr saints meeting. Bro. Phillips present

11th - distributing the Millenial Stars

13th - attended Georgetown in morning meeting & Ffynon Tydfil the rest of the day opening a new room. Pres. Phillips & Davis & other Elders was present - very good meetings.

14th - attended Merthyr council until a late hour where Pres. Phillips named all the Elders that were dieing in the Spirit, they all confessed & asked forgiveness of the council & also of the Lord. Forgiveness was granted & the deemed better than ever to work.

July 16th - visited Ganghen Bbranch, Cefn Coed Cymmer, had a very good saints meeting, spoke a little.

17th - attended Merthyr saints meeting Neglected my journal

20th - attended Merthyr all day with Bro. Eliezer Edwards. Presided the saints' meeting ordained Morgan Jones a priest & confirmed Daniel Jenkins. Preached with Elder Edwards in the evening to a large congregation.

21st - attended Merthyr council meeting

23rd - visited Georgetown Branch. spoke a little on the necessity of keeping the 'word of wisdom' had a very good meeting, one was confirmed.

24th - attended Merthyr Branch where Elders Davies & Jones spoke concerning the 'word of wisdom' at great length. Dismissed the meeting through prayer.

July 25th - visited Georgetown council meeting where Elder Jones & myself spoke on the 'word of wisdom' & that every officer of the Church of Jesus Christ should keep it in order that they might teach the saints to do so.

27th - visited Ffynon Tydfil Branch together with Elders Edwards, Jones & others in the morning and Pendaren Branch in the afternoon & evening where I spoke a little & brought forth reasons why it was wisdom to cease drinking tea, coffee, hot drinks & using snuff & tobacco &c.

28th - attended Merthyr council meeting

30th Wednesday - attended Georgetown saints' meeting where I taught the saints had a very good meeting, abundant of the Spirit of the Lord throughout the meeting.

Thursday 31th - visited Ffynon Tydfil Branch where I taught the saints to keep the word of wisdom. Ordained John Owens a deacon.



August

Sunday 3rd - At Aberdare, where there was a fine & commodious room opened by the English, the room was full all day of respectable people Elders Roberts, Edmonds, Sims & others

Monday 4th - attended Merthyr council meeting counselled the officers to keep the 'word of wisdom'

Wensday 6th - Georgetown saints meeting spoke a little was followed by President Phillips

Thursday 7th - attended Merthyr saints meeting ordained Rees Jones a deacon. Pres Phillips was present good meeting

Friday 8th July - attended Georgetown council meeting with President Phillips closed the council through prayer

Sunday 10th - Visited Georgetown Branch in the evening & preached &c.

Monday 11th - Distributing the Millenial Star

Friday 15th - in Merthyr Saints' meeting could not be held on Wensday Eve owing to the room been let, &c.

Sunday 17th - Merthyr afternoon & evening President Phillips preached on the word of wisdom was followed by President Davies & I closed the meeting through singing & prayer.

Monday 18th - in Merthyr council meeting

19th - General Conference

Wensday 20th - at Ynysgau English Branch taught the saints & officers their duties &c to get the door opened, the candles ready &c in time, the saints to attend their meetings punctually. Baptized David Giles who had emigrated with Captain Jones &c & had returned from Saint Louis, we don't know whether he is cut out of the Church or not but, I baptized him at the request of President Phillips.

Friday 22nd - distributing the Millenial Star



24th Sunday - Writing with President Phillips in the morning, Merthyr in the afternoon. spoke a little and confirmed David Giles who I had baptized on Wednesday - preached in the evening to a large congregation was followed by President Phillips.

25th Monday - Merthyr council meeting opened the council through prayer

27th Wednesday - attended Georgetown saints meeting confirmed Margaret John also spoke a little & taught the saints &c

28th Thursday - attended Merthyr saints meeting taught the saints on the 'word of wisdom' had a very good meeting.

29th Friday - attended Georgetown council meeting &c

31st Sunday - preached in the morning in the Gorllwyny Branch. taught in Merthyr saints meeting &c. confirmed Ann Rees, (daughter of Dd. [David] Rees) closed the evening meeting through prayer.

Monday 1st Sept - attended the [illegible] Bryd at Hirwaun where there were about 5 or 600 saints together. preached in the evening together with other Elders in the chapel.

Tuesday 2nd - General council meeting. Elders Davis, Jones & other present Elder Phillips from home.

Wednesday 3rd - Georgetown saints meeting taught the saints together with some Elders.

Thursday 4th - Merthyr saints meeting taught the saints &c.

Wednesday 10th - Ynysgau saints meeting taught the saints on the 'word of wisdom' &c.

Thursday 11th - Merthyr saints meeting spoke a little after Elders Davis, Argust, &c confirmed Jane Jones.

Friday 12th - Georgetown council meeting spoke a little to the officers concerning the bad feeling that were amongst the saints after been in Hirwaun party &c

Sunday 14th Sept - Merthyr in the morning with Elder Pack from France who arrived here this morning, & Ellis & Davis - called the English Branch to the Merthyr Room in the afternoon when Elders Davis & Pack addressed them. Georgetown Branch in the evening, when Elder Pack & Davis addressed the people on certain points - confirmed David Gabriel in Merthyr saints meeting.

Monday 15th - Merthyr council meeting where I councilled the priests to attend their school regular - dismissed the meeting through prayer.

Tuesday 16th - General council meeting Pres. Phillips not yet come home from North Wales.

Wednesday 17th - Georgetown saints meeting where I spoke a little & taught the saints. two confirmed.

Thursday 18th 1851 - Merthyr saints meeting taught the saints & had a very good meeting & neglected to make up my journal.

Sunday 21st - Merthyr saints meeting & preached in the evening to a large congregation in the Georgetown branch.

Wednesday 24th - visited Georgetown saints meeting with President Phillips where he gave a little account of his tour through North Wales



Thursday 25th - Merthyr saints meeting where Elders Phillips & Davis addressed the saints afterwards I was called to read a letter which Pres. Phillips wrote concerning some bad men in North Wales.

Sunday 28th 1851 - Was in Georgetown school & morning meeting Merthyr saints meeting & preached together with Elder Davis in the evening in Ffynon Tydfil Branch.

Wednesday 1st - visited Pendaren Branch spoke in the saints meeting, good meeting.

Thursday 2nd - spoke in Merthyr saints meeting concerning polygamy & adultery &c which are abominable before the Lord &c & counseled the saints to take good care of these evil spirits &c - confirmed Edward Rees - could not make up my journal owing to the press of business for the conference which was held last Sunday Soiree on Monday following where there were about 2000 saints & others present.

Tuesday 7th - a council was held in this office (14 Castle St Merthyr Tydfil) were present 6 or 7 Presidents of conferences & others. - distributing the 'Stars'.

Wednesday 8th - in Georgetown with President Phillips spoke a little in the saints meeting

Thursday 9th - Merthyr saints meeting confirmed Ann Gabriel also ordained Bro. David Giles as teacher &c.

Saturday 11th - went together with President Phillips to Tredegar - were in the council in the evening.

Sunday 12 - in conference had a very good meeting all day preached in the evening together with some more Elders

Monday 13 - council in the forenoon and were in the concert in the evening &c.

Tuesday 14th - returned home with the mail and was in our general council meeting.

Wednesday 15th - visited Georgetown saints meeting taught a little concerning being liberal towards the work of the Lord, & not to be covetous.

Thursday 16th - in Merthyr saints meeting presided the meeting and taught a little concerning attending the meetings &c Friday was out with the ponny towards Cardiff.

Saturday 18th - distributing the Stars

Sunday 19th - in Merthyr Branch all day dismissed the morning meeting through prayer. spoke in the saints meeting a little, & preached after Walter Lewis and Thomas Harris in the evening.

Oct Wednesday 22nd 1851 - visited Ynysgau branch at the request of President Phillips & spoke a little & taught the saints &c.

Thursday 23rd - attended Merthyr saints meeting dismissed the meeting through prayer &c.

Friday 24th - visited Merthyr singing meeting dismissed the meeting through prayer.

Sunday 26th - visited Georgetown branch in the morning & preached- Merthyr Branch saints meeting where I broke bread &c - also attended evening meeting where President Phillips & another preached to a very large congregation. one gave his name for baptism after the meeting.

Monday 27th/51 - Merthyr council meeting spoke a little &c and gave a few councels

Tuesday 28th - General council meeting - neglected to keep my journal owing to a press of business.



November

Saturday 1st Nov - Elder Lorenzo Snow arrived here from London.

Sunday 2nd - Bros Snow & Phillips & others preached in Merthyr Branch when all the surrounding branches had collected. had a very good meeting.

Tuesday 4th - Went in company of Elder Davis to Tredegar where Elders Snow & Phillips preached & the mobs came upon them & tried to brake into their bedroom &c.

Wednesday 5th - I visited Georgetown branch.

Thursday 6th - There was a particular meeting in the Merthyr Branch room where most of the neighboring saints collected & Bros Phillips, Davis & Snow preached & I sang the welcome hymn to Bro. Snow.

Sunday 9th - In Merthyr branch spoke a little Bro. Phillips was present

Tuesday 11th - General council meeting

Thursday 13th - attended Merthyr saints meeting dismissed the meeting through prayer

Sunday 16th - Went with President Phillips to Dowlais where there was a new room opened. preached before Bro. Phillips in the Bute Room, Dowlais

Tuesday 18th - went to send Pres. Phillips as far as Hirwaun Station where he was going to Carmarthenshire.

Wednesday 19th - Went to Victoria, Monmouthshire, to speak to Brother James James who is selected to emigrated to the valley to commence the Iron works.

Thursday 20th - attended Merthyr saints meeting dismissed the meeting through prayer.

Sunday 23rd - confirmed Cath Merick - Merthyr saints meeting & went at the request of Elders Phillips & Davis to the church of England in the evening where the Parson preached against the Prophet Joseph Smith & the Book of Mormon &c.

Monday 24th - In Merthyr council dismissed the meeting through prayer.

Tuesday 25th - General council meeting

Wednesday 26th - attended Georgetown saints meeting & taught the saints a little before President Phillips.

Thursday 27th - in Merthyr saints meeting where Elder Thomas Jones who ran away to America was cut out dismissed the meeting with prayer.

Friday 28th - Visited Georgetown branch council spoke a little to the officers

Sunday 30th visited Cefn Branch preached in the afternoon meeting & in the evening after Elder Reynolds

Being busy neglected to keep my journal

Wednesday 24th 1851 - Visited Georgetown saints meeting spoke a little after some of the brothers had a good meeting.

Thursday 25th 1851 - Christmas day had a very good saints meeting in the afternoon. Elders Phillips, Davis, Richards of North Wales & others present - had a sort of a concert for the benefit of Elder George Gilbert & family who emigrates for the valley to commence Iron works with Bro James James &c in the evening.

Sunday 28th 1851 - In Georgetown saints meeting taught a little after Bro. Jones against some that were not willing to fast once a month & bring the worth of their dinner every month towards carrying on the work of the Lord which was passed in the General council &c.

29th Dec 1851 - sent to Elder Franklin D. Richards , Liverpool, £38,8,8 being the voluntary donation of the Welsh church to the Per Emg Fund.
