With many of the Saints coming to the United States, William and Jane decided to make their home in Zion. Arrangements were made for passage on the Walber, a seaworthy ship, but on May 31st William asked for a deposit refund and made arrangements on the Germanicus instead. William was 32, Jane was 25, and William Charles was 9 years of age when the trip was made. The ship landed in New Orleans.
