1899

January 1. Weather pleasant but little snow. Our total indebtedness is $145.00 for a self-binder that is not much good and $20. 25 erroneously charged in book store.

January 12. On hand, eight cows, six calves, fifteen horses, all kinds, about 1,000 bushels of wheat, twelve hundred of flour, four hundred pounds of pork, $63.00 cash, fifty acres fall grain in the ground and five hundred forty acres of land free of incumbrance. On the eleventh we had a February storm, snowing and drifting, about fifteen inches of snow on the ground now.

February 1. We have had ten days of the finest weather we ever seen at this time of the year.

February 3. Most of the snow gone. Dave and Phillip went to Provo today.

February 5. Yesterday and today is the coldest weather this winter. Dave came home on the twenty-seventh of January and started to work for James E. Jones on the thirteenth of February.

February 6. We are having a bad snow storm. A foot of snow has fallen.

February 19. The weather is lovely, lots of snow gone.

March 1. A little rain and snow that night.

September 1. We thrashed five hundred sixty bushels of grain.

September 21. Got $50.00 from Peter F. at one per cent.

October 3. Went to Salt Lake City and returned on the eleventh. Cost of fare $2.75.

October 18. Rain and snow since the eleventh. The boys are plowing. This day got $50.00 from the bank at one per cent.

October 20. Mary E. Rees and Daniel P. Thomas were married.

November 4. I received $100.00 from P. Fredricson at ten per cent per annum.

1900

August 22. We commenced to thrash over the river and got through on the twenty-ninth. We got 1,536 bushels of wheat, 219 bushels of rye and 91 bushels of oats. Total 1,846 bu.

September 8. We thrashed 12 ½ bushels lucern seed.

September 10. Commenced to plow over the river. Bought a new sulky. Cost $57.00.

October 2. We went to Provo October second and returned October 14. It cost with the train $11.20. Sold 190 bu of rye for 84¢ per 100 lbs in Brigham City.

October 20. Drawed $60.00 in the bank at one per cent.

October 31. Paid $60.25 in the bank.

November 16. We have planted most of the land south of the creek with New Zealand wheat, the south patch hardly ½ bu. to the acre, next the creek sowed heavier.

November 21. It has been raining and snowing for four days. The ground is covered with snow. Phillip has gone to Collinston. He took ten sacks of wheat. We have sold to date 225 bushels of wheat.

November 26. Lee Hall put 116 head of cattle in the pasture at 3 p.m. at two cents per head per day. The weather is lovely. We are planting rye.

December 9. We are through planting rye. We are now sowing New Zealand wheat north of the garden, some in the center of the patch without vitrol. Yesterday I sowed some Sonora wheat in the top of the field without vitrol.

December 14. He took 42 sacks, 89.40 bushel. Sold for 40¢. We are sinking a new well.

December 17. Sold for 38¢ 91 bu. We took 44 sacks to Bear River mill. Paid $8.75 for lumber.

1901

January 4. The weather has been lovely. The roads are dusty. Rec'd. $30 for straw and $36 for pasture. Gome and George took 90 bushel, 42 sacks to Collinston. Sold for 37¢.

January 6. Raining hard yesterday and today. Bought a new wagon box. Cost $22.00.

January 8. Mary Ellen was confined.

January 10. Mrs. Tovey was buried.

January 13. No snow to speak of on the ground. Our total indebtedness will not exceed ten dollars. We have about 900 bushel of wheat.

January 16. Sold 100 Bu. 48 sacks of wheat at Honeyville mills for 38¢. The weather is lovely, no snow on the ground.

January 14. The sow brought seven little pigs.

January 19. We have sold to date 696 bushel of wheat, 320 sacks.

January 26. Sold 167 lbs. of lucern seed at 6 ½. Paid Dr. Kerns $7.00 for phillip. Paid T.M. Thomas $5.00. The weather is lovely but the roads are very muddy.

January 31. Mrs. Mason was buried in Samaria.

February 3. One-half inch of snow last night.

February 4. Mrs. Hannah James was buried.

February 10. Started to Ogden with wheat. Took 155 bushel, 75 sacks. Sold at 50¢ and 46¢.

February 19. Snow and rain today.

February 23. Raining all day, snow about all gone.

March 6. Started to Ogden with three teams loaded with wheat. Took 69 sacks, sold for 46¢ and 47¢. It snowed like winter.

March 14. Started to plow on the fourteenth with two plows.

March 20. Sowed some lucern on the bench.

April 3. It is snowing like winter, four inches on the ground. It has been very cold and stormy for a long time.

April 6. Three inches of snow fell today.

April 9. Snowstorm.

April 11. Planted lucern on the Central farm.

April 13. Nice, warm rain last night.

April 18. Planted lucern above the corral. The weather is fine. Started to sow wheat.

April 25. Phillip went with the sheep. Planted oats on the river today.

May 1. Planted some lucern in the south on central farm. Went to Collinston. Took 45 bushel of wheat, Sold for 53¢ sacked.

May 6. Received a letter today from Richard Walters, No. 3 Oak Row Cwnbach nr Aberdare, Glanmorganshire, announcing the death of John Morgan.

May 11. We had a nice soaking rain.

May 13. Went to Collinston with wheat. Sold for 51¢ sacked, Fifty bushels.

May 14. Rain again.

May 17. The folks arrived from Provo.

May 23. Sold 108 bushel of wheat in Corinne at 50¢.

June J. Sold 110 in Ogden for 52¢ at the mill.

June 8. Sold 55 bushel for 54¢ at Nae Canays. Commenced to sow lucern on the eighth.

June 27. To Wales. Stayed ill Chicago one-half day. Stay in Buffalo 24 hours. Visited the Pan-American Exposition and the Niagara Falls.

July 1. Arrived in Boston. Took the boat on the third and steamed out 12 noon on the Commonwealth Dominion Line. Arrived at Liverpool on the eleventh of July. Got to Porth on the twelfth, went to Treherbert on the fifteenth, to Cwmbach on the sixteenth, to Merthyr on the twenty-second and back to Porth the twenty-third; to Merthyr on the twenty-fourth, went to Carmarthen on twenty-fifth, to Goodwick and fishguard on the twenty-sixth, left there on the third of August, stayed in Llanelly on Sunday, the fourth, stayed in Swansea, and paid nine pence for the round trip to Mermbles.

August 5. It is the nicest place of all. Went to Abernant in the evening> went to Merthyr on the sixth, to the Esteddfod, went to Mountain Ash on the seventh and to Aberdare, went to Merthyr on the eighth, went to Brynmawr on the ninth, to the Blina and back to Merthyr on tenth, to Wwmback on the Eleventh, stayed there two days. Went to Porth on the thirteenth, then to Treherbert on fifteenth.

August 18. Went to Treorkey on seventeenth, back to Porth on eighteenth, went to Cardiff on the twentieth.

August 29. Started home on the twenty-ninth. Steamed out of Liverpool August thirtieth. Arrived at New York September seventh. Stayed there ten days, Started west September Seventeenth. Stayed half a day in Ogden. Reached home September twenty-second. The thrashing was over quite a while.

October 4. We have had a good soaking rain. Phillip went out to the sheep for Gleed September 29, and quit October 22. We have been planting rye since October first.

October 16. We have been planting fife wheat on the bench for three days. Phillip went to herd sheep with Gleed September 29. Gwennie has taken three lessons and Thomas two.

October 27. A good soaking rain. We have been planting some New Zealand wheat next to None and planted rye east of it November first.

November 5. The boys are through getting wood for the district at $4.20 a cord.

November 14. Sold oats to date, 365 and 505 lbs at $1.00 We thrashed early in September. We got in Cherry Creek, 386 wheat, on the point, 465, rye 41, oats 116, total 1,008.

November 30. Phil and George plowed six hours today. The weather has been lovely all this fall but not enough rain, We planted some rye on the lucern today.

December 1. We heard last week that our friend, George Smith died in Willard City.

December 8, We have been plowing nearly all week and have had lots of rain, The ground is fairly soaked.

December 9. Today is stormy, it is trying to snow.

December 11. Snowing.

December 13. Snowing today, I guess we will have sleighing now.

December 16. The weather is clear and cold, A few inches of snow on the ground, We got the stock up feeding, also the mares and colts weening them.

December 20. Started to Corinne. Took 74 bushel of wheat, Sold at the mill for 68¢. The weather is very fine.

December 30. We took some of the stock down on the river, Snow is all gone.

1902

January 8. Came home today from Logan. Went with Phillip, The snow is all gone. We have been having a fog all week.

January 10. It is lovely weather today, Sold 100 bushel of wheat for 65¢ per bushel.

January 19. The weather is very fine. The cattle and horses out doing well. No snow on the ground. I owe $4.25 to Phillip Rees.

January 24. We have had lovely weather until today. The ground bare all over. Stock doing well, in the field. Today it is trying to snow a little.

January 25. Four inches of snow has fallen. We brought all the stock and horses home.

January 29. The weather is cold and clear. Very cold.

February 2. The weather is still cold. We have a little snow.

February 9. It has been thawing the last two days. Snow is all gone. The weather is like spring. We advertised two mares.

February 11. Went to Salt Lake and Provo. Round trip fare $4.75 and got home February twenty-first. The weather delightful.

February 23. No snow anywhere. The roads almost dry.

February 27. It has been raining like spring.

February 28. Today it snowed like winter. Four inches of snow on the ground.

March 4. This month so far has been cold and little stormy but it is fine today. The snow is all gone.

March 9. It snowed three inches last night. It is very fine today.

March 10. We bought two stray mares today, the coldest for $5.25, the other for $21.75. This has been a fine day.

March 11. Started to Ogden with fifteen bushel of wheat. Sold for 80¢ and 809 lbs lucern seed sold for 8 ½ ¢ without fanning.

March 14. It snowed four inches last night in Ogden.

March 19. It rained here all day.

March 20". Fine.

March 21. It snowed last night three inches.

March 26. School was out the end of a five months term.

March 27. The weather is a little cold and unsettled. The teacher received today $171.35.

April 4. Went to Salt Lake and to Provo. Returned on the sixteenth. Wheat all in The children are all down with mumps. Little Dannie died April thirteenth, 1902, and was burried on the fifteenth.

April 19. We are plowing for oats.

April 26. It has been raining for five days. It is fine today.

April 30. We put a little of the oats i.lt today. George started to work for Charlie Lewis today.

May 1. Raining today.

May 8. Finished planting the oats. Planted over 600 lbs from W. W. Evans, sowed broadcast on the west side of the river.

May 25. We got through plowing our summer fallowed land. It has been trying to rain for a week but it has cleared up now.

June 1. It rained a little today and froze the potatoes in the night. Returned from Brigham City today where we sold two loads of wheat for $81.00 and sold the gray team for $125.00. Bought a new buggy for $158.00 and harness for $28.00.

June 11. Returned from Brigham City. Sold wheat for eithty [sic] and ninety cents. It came to $75.00.

June 13. Started on the Lucern. We got eitht [sic] loads at home and we hauled seven loads home from the south farm. We got eleven loads by the stackyard on river farm. Everything is very dry. We have had no rain for a long time.

June 30. We got through with the lucern. We got eighteen loads in all on the river. We had quite a rain on the night of the twenty-seventh.

July 2. Blowing all day. It rained all night, snow on the hills this morning. It is very cold.

July 23. We have finished the hay and got through hauling the rye today.

July 25. Thomas went with Phil to the sheep.

July 28. The summer has been very dry. The wheat is very thin and short.

August 1. Went to Collinston to bu;y a Craver Header. It cost $215.00, half to be paid in sixty days and half in nine months.

August 11. Got through heading our wheat. We headed 53 ½ acres around Malad and about 100 acres of our own. We got $1. 00 an acre for outside heading.

August 19. Gomer returned from Portage where he cut 31 ½ acres of oats with self-binder at $1.00 per acre. Thomas commenced to work for M. V. Rees, July 25. Fred Skinner started to work Thurs-day morning, August 7, for $25.00 per month. We started to plow going three days ago.

September 3. We got through hauling the oats.

September 9. We started to thrash. We got through in three days. We got wheat on the bench, 497 bushel, on grove farm, 477 bushel, rye 126, oats 191 bushels. Total 1291.

September 27. Went to Collinston. Took 44 bushel of wheat. Sold for 54¢ sacked. Phil went to Logan this trip.

October 3. Sold 50 bushel of wheat for 54¢ at Collinston. Went to Salt Lake and Provo. Came home on the 14th. The boys planted tye on the central farm while we was gone.

October 30. Sold 48 bushel of wheat at Corinne for 75¢.

November 3. We have planted nearly all the fall wheat. We planted Red Clawson both sides of the north creek. We have not vitroled any of the wheat this fall.

October 27. About this time we thrashed the lucern seed. It was raining all the time while thrashing. We got 23 bushels toll and all.

November 14. Eleven sacks of wheat was stole from the house at grove farm this week.

November 18. Went to Ogden. Paid $33.00 on the header. Sold 89 bushel of wheat in Fielding at 72 cents loose.

November 25. Planted some rye. We got a snowstorm on the 19th but it soon went off. George and Gomer went to Provo on horseback.

December 4. More snow last night. Winter has started in good shape. We paid up in all the stores.

December 14. We have had quite a bit of rain and snow last week but now it is freezing severely. The ground is nearly bare.

1903

January 5. Received five dollars from W. J. Skinner.

January 8. Sent 36 bushel of wheat to Samaria Mills. Got 57¢ per bushel.

January 10. Went to Provo. Returned January 19th.

January 20. Bought linoleum, 7 ½ yards, $1.35. Supposed to be good.

January 25. It has been thawing last week. It is thawing today. Snow nearly all gone. Sold $6.25 worth of rye at 1¢ per pound. Received $10.00 from Wm. Skinner.

January 27. It rained and snowed last night. We have nice sleighing now.

February 3. The weather is very cold. Sleighing good.

March 1. We have had three weeks of very severe weather with more snow than we have had for years.

February 28. Got $45.00 from the bank.

March 2. Ma went to Provo. It is raining and thawing all this week.

March 8 It snowed today about two inches.

March 19. The snow went off almost at once. We could plow yesterday but it turned off cold and storming a little.

March 10. Today very fine. The snow going off fast. Yester-day was the last sleigh ride of the season.

March 20. We started to plow a little in the upper pasture. The weather dry and cold.

April 2. Returned from Ogden, Sold wheat for 84¢ and 11.50 lbs. for 10¢ without refaning lucern seed. We have had a cold storm.

April 3. Started to Salt Lake City, returned on the 12th.

April 4. Ma came up from Provo and returned on the 7th.

April 14. Started to plant wheat on the bench.

April 16. Started to plow on the bottoms.

May 7. Sold 83 bushels of wheat in Ogden for 84¢ per bushel. Sold the blue horse for $50.00. Paid $100.00 , the last payment on the header. Started to plow on grove farm.

May 16. We got a wild snow storm today. The ground was very dry, most of the fall wheat is not out of the ground for the want of rain.

May 17. We had a good snow  storm today. It will help the grain a little.

May 24. Sold fifty bushels of wheat in Corinne. Sold for 80¢ loose. We have had a nice rain for three days.

May 31. Returned from Salt Lake where I went to see President Roosevelt.

June 2. Sold 51 ¼ bushels of wheat at 76¢ at Collinston. 

June 5. Sold 45 bushel of wheat sacked for 79¢ at Collinston. Went to Logan City, returned on the tenth.

May 27. Locked up five sheep supposed to belong to Dave Jones.

June 1. Joe Holdrige put his horses in the pasture. He had them in one week before May 17.

June 16. Sold 54 bushel of wheat in Corinne at 80¢ in the mill. Also 1500 lbs of rye at $1.00 per hundred.

July 1. Sold 54 bushel of wheat in Brigham City at 90¢.

July 13. Sold 54 Bushel of wheat at 90¢ in Brigham City.

July 23. Sold 32 bushels of wheat at Honeyville Mill for 75¢ and got 300 lbs of flour.

August 6. All the children went to Logan to see the circus.

August 30. The Indians thrashed 200 bushels of wheat. We let them off. They did not thrash it clean. The new machine thrashed the balance of our grain on the 26th, 319 bushel. Total 527.

August 2. On or about August 2 Dave Jones shut my cows in his stable. On Tuesday I replevined them. The next day I got Tom Parry and Bill Morse to view the fence on Dave Jones' place. The fence in some places had only one slab, in other places only one pole, in face it was a very poor excuse of a fence. About August 4th I sued him for fifty dollars damages. The time set for the trial was August 15th. He nor his lawyer appeared nor put in their answer to the complaint but we would not take advantage of him. We gave him until September first to appear. When that time arrived they asked to let it go until after the discourt. That’s what we did. When court was over we set the trial for the 28th. The trial came off but they did not appear. We got judgement against him for $20.00 and costs amounting to $45.65. Then he appealed the case and on October 19th he got George E. Gray and T. A. Davies and others to examine his fence after it had been repaired several times.

September 1. Joe Holdrige got his horses from the field. They had been in three months the last time. We started yesterday to plant fall wheat on grove farm. We don't vitrol any.

September 3. We started two plows yesterday but today we are moving some seed on grove farm. The grasshoppers have destroyed considerable of the seed.

September 10. Got through cutting the seed lucern. The weather has been very cold for three days. Everything is frozen. No moisture yet.

September 14. The ground froze last night. Paid Phillip $10.00 tonight. He drawed $19 before.

September 27. Richards Bros. put 100 head of cattle in the field, paid $50.

September 28. Got through planting fall wheat. Got judgement against D. W. Jones for $20 and cost amounting $45.60.

September 29. Took 23 bushel and 39 lbs of wheat to John E. Jones’ mill. Got all the bran and 87 lbs of flour. Due yet 653 of flour.

October 17. We thrashed the lucern seed today. We got 17 bu, all told.

November 29. Sold 875 lbs of wheat to Geo. Moss today for 79¢ per bushel. 

December 2. Today is clear. It has been very foggy for the past week.

December 3. Today has been cold and clear. Everything is frozen. Received $105. for wheat at 70¢ per bushel in granary.

December 7. Sold 50 bu. of wheat in Brigham Mills for 80¢ and went to Ogden where it was 86¢.

November 28. Sent six horses to pasture.

December 4. Got one horse out for two days.

December 7. Took two back to the pasture. We had a little snow on the 11th and on the 13th we had lots of fog and frost.

December 18. We had six inches of snow last night.

December 23. There was a little new snow on the ground this morning and it is very cold and drifting. We are having good sleighing.

December 26. Well, Christmas is past. Dave and Sarah and our Dave and Mandry and Jaune were here with us, the weather is tine but cold. It is fair sleighing. Frost was heavy over everything and foggy this morning.

December 14. We took the horses to the field over the river. 

1904

January 6. We have had lovely weather with snow all over the ground about 5 inches deep. The sleighing is good and have been for over three weeks. I have been a little sick for over two weeks.

January 8. We don't owe one dollar anywhere We have got about 100 bushels of wheat to sell, about $100 worth of lucern seed to sell, one pair of colts. I was offered $200 for both. One bay mare two years old missing, eight other horses, 2 cows, one calf, $260 cash and 135 acres of fall grain planted. The weather is fine.

January 10. It is snowing today.

January 11. It has snowed about 6 inches. Fine today. On December 30th 591 persons was killed in the Iroquious Theater, Chicago, the play was Bluebeard, time, 3;30 P.M.

January 20. The weather and sleighing is fine. Had no storm for a long time.

January 21. Snowing. We got 15 inches of snow.

February 4. Gomer took a load of wheat on the bobs to Corinne. Sold 41 bushel at 77¢.  The weather has been fine but cold.

February 7. We had three inches of snow last night. We got about 12 inches on the level now.

February 15. We have bad small squalls of snow this month. Today it has been snowing and raining. It is thawing tonight.

February 22. Today our sleighing is done. It rained all night and today.

February 26. It has been thawing all the week. The snow is all gone. Lots of it gone into the ground.

March 4. It rained and snowed last night but it has all melted into the ground. We have had quite a bit of rain the last week.

March 10. It rained and snowed today.

March 15. We had a soaking rain last night.

March 16. It froze hard last night.

March 21. It rained hard for four days and then topped off with four inches of snow Saturday night. It is cold and snowing today.

March 23. Raining and snowing all day.

March 25. Snowing a little last night and today.

March 27. Little snow last night.

March 30. Heavy rains yesterday and last night.

March 3l. Last night it froze like a rock.

April 2. Went to Salt Lake City. Returned on the 7th.

April 4. We had a nice rain.

April 8. All the wheat is planted on the bench.

April 16. We had a nice rain for a few hours today. We have had hot weather for a week. The fall wheat looks like a meadow.

April 18. Started to Ogden with alfalfa seed. Returned 23rd. Sold for 13 ½ and 8¢. It rained heavy for two days.

April 28. Mrs. D.R. Jones was buried today. The week has been fine today. I sold a team for $275.

May 1. A rain storm this afternoon.

May 4. It is raining heavy tonight. It rains a little every day this week.

May 8. Just returned from Elkhorn. It has been raining a little every day.

May 16. bushel. Returned from Ogden. Sold 60 bushel of wheat at $1 per Traded Charlie away.

May 18. A nasty dry wind today. No rain for over ten days. Wheat looks fine.

May 24. We planted the winter potatoes today.

June 2. We have a splendid rain. It. has been raining off and on all day. The grain needed it bad, the land was powder dry.

June 6. Gomer has gone to Malad with 45 cedar posts. He has sold 174 at 12 ½ ¢  each.

June 8. William T. Jones came home.

June 7. We commenced to mow the lucern on the bench. The land is very day but the stream in the ditch keeps up fine. We have watered nearly all the lucern since mowing.

June 16. We have hauled all the lucern.

June 22. We had a soaking rain for an hour this afternoon. About five loads of wild hay is what we got this year.

June 25. A severe frost last night.

July 1. We had a soaking rain today.

July 3. Returned from Ogden and Salt Lake today.

July 5. A little rain today.

July 20. We started on the rye with the binder.

July 28. We commenced on the wheat yesterday. Returned from Logan on the 25th. Sold the cow and team on the 26th.

August 5. Returned from Ogden on the mail. Cost $2.50. Bought a home for $850.00.

August 8. Got through heading over the river.

August 10. Got through with the binder

August 16. We got done hauling the bundles on the river today. We cut the second crop of lucern yesterday. Ma went to Provo. Due T.M. Thomas, $1.20. Due T.M. Thomas, $1.15. Butcher shop 85¢.

August 22. Returned from Ogden, everything froze last night. It has been very cold for three nights.

August 23. It. rained half the day today.

August 31. Commenced to thrash. Got through September 5th. Ma come home.

September 8. We have had good weather, no rain or wind. We thrashed rye, 120, oats and wheat mixed, 40, wheat, 1314, lucern. seed, 18 ¼ bulk of seed was froze.

September 15. Went to Ogden. Sold two loads wheat, 40 sacks, $76.45.

September 17. Sold 43 sacks wheat at 78¢, total $82.38.

September 21. Sold 65 sacks at. 79¢ cash, total $121.00.

September 23. Sold 66 sacks wheat at 80¢ cash, total $128.23.

September 25. Sold 43 sacks at 80¢ cash, total $83.00.

October 1. Sold 22 sacks at 78¢ cash, $41.00.

October 3. Moved to Ogden. One load of furniture.

October 6. Went to Salt Lake and returned October 9th.

October 15. Paid $20 for painting the house in Ogden. $14.00 would have been ample. It could be painted in 12 hours time by two men. They want $12 for painting the roof, They say it will take eight gallons of oil and mineral.

October 16. We have had considerable rain this last week. Last night it rained in torrents nearly all night.

1905

February 14. Phillip and George come to Ogden with 98 bushel of wheat. Sold to the mill for $85.45, 92¢ per bushel. Gave them $5.00 each for expenses and $2.00.

March 2. The weather is lovely and has been for two weeks. The sprinkler was out today. The roads are dusty.

March 10. The assessor was here today. The ground was $4.50 per foot, the house at $3OO., organ and furniture $25. Total $437.50. The weather is still lovely.

March 27. The weather is stormy and has been for nearly two weeks. We have bad lots of raia. It has been favorable to !all graia. On the 25th we got one-half ton of coal. Cost $2.00.

March 30. We got about 6 inches of snow last night.

April 6. Went to Salt Lake this morning. Came home on the 9th.

April 17. We have had two good rains this last week.

June 10. Thomas went from Malad to the sheep camp.

June 17. I brought the last of the wheat, sold for 85 CENTS. Headed the rye on the bench. We had one stack.

July 18. We started on the wheat.

October 27. We bought 1500 lbs of coal.

November 17. Sold 95--10 bushel.

November 19. Little Earl died Sunday morning, aged 3 ½ years.

November 20. Bought 2000 lbs of coal.

November 24. Sold 43--50 and $69 lucern seed.

November 27. Sold 101 bu of wheat all at 64¢  sacked. I have taken 16 ½ bu of wheat to the mills, 4 bu to Ogden and 715 lbs of rye. Gomer has had 109 ½ bu of wheat. Ma and I came home December 11.

1906

January 6. We bought a new cutter for $22.00, the snow being nearly 12 inches. Bought one ton of slack coal, $2.75 delivered.

January 8. There is now a balance in the Pingre Bank, $91.78, in Malad Bank, $5.00.

January 12. Gave Gwennie $3.50. Total in bank, $88.28.

January 25. Went to Salt Lake and returned 27th.

February 1. In the bank $88.28.

February 2. Drawed $6. Malad Bank $19.96.

February 10. We have had 15 days of a fog. Today the sun came out a little but to hide again soon. On January 15, Gomer left $13.95 in the bank and February 12, he sent me $20. Total $33.95 . Gome sold 54 bushel wheat February 5, ·received $30.00.

May 3. Sold 136--13 bu of wheat at Cherry Creek for 62¢. Sacked all the wheat we had and came home after being up there 17 days. The wheat came to $84.34. Gomer sold the hog for $7.73 which is not received.

May 19. We have had a splendid rain for nearly a week. Noan came here sick from Neveda on May 2, of spotted fever. The doctor bill cost his $30 without the medicine.

June 15. Sent a letter to Rickard Walters.

June 14. Thomas went to Idaho.

June 6. I returned from Idaho. Up to that date we had all the rain we wanted.

July 9. A heavy thunder storm and big hailstones.

July 17. We put the horses in pasture. Received 95¢ over from Ben Ledbetter.

July 12. Gomer came down and brought the cow and calf one week, also three horses.

August 3. We sold Cleave for $40, twenty do and twenty Sept. J. we old the calf for $6 and the cow for $35. I got $15 down and $20 due September 4. Late in September I sold Chief for $56.25. Ma and I went to Malad. Stayed two weeks. Returned October 4th.

October 4. Gomer was thrashing when we got there. We thrashed 781 bushels of grain and ten of seed. Of the grain 56 was rye.

October 15. Went to Malad. Returned to Ogden on the 24th. Had a terrific wind in Salt Lake and Ogden October 21. Broke down all the poles from 13th street to Five Points Uprooted scores of trees across the sidewalk and buried houses and many barns down. It blowed ours to pieced, some off across the road.

November 5. The barn rebuilt again complete. W. T. Jomes helped all through.

October 4. William Roper was buried in Salt Lake City. I think he died the day before.

November 17. Winter set in very severe.

November 18. Ma went to Provo.

November 19. Sent five dollars to Sister Ellen.

November 21. Five inches of snow on the ground. Still winter weather.

November 22. It is blowing something terrible and cold, The snow is drifted deep in the sidewalk. Street cars did not run until afternoon.

November 24. Gomer got here today. He brought 12 sacks of wheat, 5 of rye and 3of flour. He went home on the 27th.

November 29. Sarah Thatcher died Thanksgiving night.

December 2. Dinah came here on her way to Provo. Mary Ellen's boy was born November 26, 1906. Ma got home December 10.

December 14. Gomer sold our pig for $7, straw for $11.50, and 13 sacks wheat to Will Evans and 5 sacks to mill and 3 of rye. Also 7 sacks wheat, 12 in-all and 3 sacks chicken feed. It has been raining quite a bit the last day or two. We have a little snow on the ground now.

December 16. Snowed a little last night. In Pingree Bank at this date, $143.75.

December 22. Got $10 from the bank, total $133.75. Been to Idaho. Sold 345 lbs of lucern seed for $36.55. Paid $2 poll tax for Gomer.

March 12. I have been in Salt Lake nearly all this week trying to see a new auto, three h.p. for $200. but sold this day for $150. Bought a house and lot on Kennington A venue No. about 1188, from C. Fischer, 560 South 8 West for $2300. Rented it.

March 18. Received $20. per month from Mr. J.A. Holdaway. Next rent will be due April 21, 1910.

March 19. On deposit in Pingree $740. Due on tithing this day $9.70.

March 25. Gave Gomer and George Rees $50 each. Went to Malad and Elkhorn March 21. Returned March 26. Fare round trip $4.

February 14. Gwennie's baby girl was born at 11;55 p.m.

Janurary 1. Returned from Malad. Ma came on the 4th.

February 21. It is snowing today.

March 19. Greenwell vacated the house. He paid altogether $55.

April 11. Bought a Ree automobile in Salt Lake. It is brought up to Ogden the same day. It was bad weather.

April 24. It balked by the park. The only trouble was it was feeding gasoline too fast but i didn't know it at the time. It was hauled to Brownings. They said that ten hours was put on it, April 25. It was brought home in a bad condition.

April 26. I took it down there again. Asked Arch Browning to ride with me a few minutes. He did so he said she wasn't working right, for me to drive in, Their man got at it and failed to drive it on the elevator. Finally he killed her and then went to dinner. When we returned he fixed her in 15 minutes.

May 1. I took her down to get them to oil the auto and told them that she got fearful hot after half an hours drive, But no one could remedy the trouble.

May 2. She died out again the same as on April 25th, and she hadn't been drove over two hours since she came from the shop April 26th.

May 4. Ma got a new hat, cost $5. Five dollars she says. She don't want any more hats for two years.

June 1. Came to Salt Lake. Bought 5 ½ packets of Kalcimine. Paid $2.35.We used 6 packets for the three rooms, pantry and bathroom.

June 18. Sold the house in Salt Lake to Mr. Murrey for $2300.

November 11. Thomas R. Rees went to Germany. He paid $80 from Ogden to Liverpool. He sent $50 to Liverpool and had $60 with him and left $79.40 at home but owed $15 for board.

Nov. 30. Last night we had the first snow but it vanished before noon today. We have had beautiful weather but too dry.

January 25. M.V. went with a bad accident the shot gut discharged a load through his left hand. He came to Ogden Feb. 4 to Dr. Voyce and returned Feb. 7th.

June l5. We are having plenty of rain. The dreadful war has been going on for ten months and is still raging.

June 17. We all went to Malad and returned June 23. The night of June 25, was about cold enough to freeze. M.V. Rees came with his auto for Mary Ellen and us and brought us home.

July 4. The great Libery Bell is exhibited in Ogden today on its journey to San Francisco Exposition. Mrs. Ledbetter called July 20 on her way to San Francisco.

August 14. Pearl Rees came to Ogden to bury her niece that drowned. Returned August 15. Joe and Emily and Thomas and Noan and the children came here in the auto and returned next day.

August 24. D.J. and I went for an outing through Weber, Coal-ville, Kamas, Heber, and Provo. I came home August 30. Phillip and family had been here since the 26th but had gone home.

Sept 1. Two hours rain tonight.

Sept 2. Went to Malad and released the mortgage on the farm of P.M. Rees and went to Elkhorn. Returned home Sept. 8. The house on Quincy Ave. was rented to McIntyre Aug. 19th.

Sept. 30. P.M. Rees made the final payment on his farm.

October 1. Noan and family came and took Ma and the family to Provo and came back to Ogden on the fifth and Pa came home the same night from Salt Lake before Conference was over. Thomas went to the University Sept. 29, 1915.

October 18. Gave D.J. Rees $785.60 cash.

October 20. D.J. Rees and children started to University at 9 A.M. this morning. Dinah left yesterday to visit in Heber. The same night George and Pearl came in from Promonotory where he worked for Thomas C.

October 21. Got a letter from Mrs. Murray but no money this month of fixing basement.

October 23. Ma went to Cherry Creek, and returned Nov. 4.

Nov. 6. Heavy rain and heavy thunder and lighting. After dark it snowed very heavy.

Nov. 10. A wintry scene trees covered with snow. Eight inches on the ground and cloudy today.

Nov. 12. Been cloudy all week. Bad winter weather. Sent a letter to Wales yesterday. Hope to get an answer. George has been working in Salt Lake over a week.

Nov. 19. John Miller and family came to stay for the winter.

November 26. Rundz moved into the house on 12th street. The sun has been obsured for three days. The weather has been very dismal.

December 2. Tithing due to date $25.17.

December 18. Bought a fur coat for $15.00.

December 20. Thomas came up from Salt Lake City. Weather has been very fine but rain today.

December 31. It has been very cold for a week about six inches of snow on the ground.

January 1. There is in the Pingree bank, $500 on interest and $55.28 open account in the First National $200 on interest. Thomas went back to Salt Lake. George didn't come up.

January 2. Thawing a little today have had another severe sick spell since Dec. 23rd. Not well yet.

January 6. Had a severe attack of chills and fever.

January 8. Rec'd. two tons of coal cost $1.50. Still on the sick list. The weather has been very fine for a week. Little snow.

Jan. 9. A light fall of snow last night.

Jan. 13. Gwennie paid $2.00 on coal and light bill $2.60 all she owes now is $1.50 on coal. Paid for coal in all $10 in all by Gwennie.

Jan. 15. It has been snowing for three days lots of snow on the ground. Ma has been sick for three days with a cold.

Jan 17. It has been the wildest weather we have seen for many years snowing and drifting over 12 inches snow on the level.

Jan. 19. It has been blowing fierce for three days. Rec'd. from J. Peter Jensen today, $436.35. $225 of it belongs to D.J. Rees. Dinah gave birth to a 9 ¼ lb boy at the Hospital at Roosevelt, Jan 14, 19l4. Got $211 from J, P. Jensen. From A.W. McIntyre rent $4.50. Got a letter from Thomas. Got a letter from George, Jan 21.

January 22. Rec'd from Mrs. Murray $32.50.

January 25. Ma got a nice suit for $10. shoes $1.98, and rubbers,.50--$2.48.

January 29. We have terrific winds and snow, for ten days or more. Snow is 12 or 18 in. deep.

Feb 6. The bear never seen his shadow on the as it was storming all day and dearly all the seek. Today is rainy all day. Water and sluch [sic] over the tops of our shoes everywhere. We got a letter from Dave yesterday. 18 inches of snow in Altonah, he said. We will send his notes to his lawyer tomorrow for collection. I sent them Feb 7th.

Feb 7. Sent a letter E. Evans to Wales.

Feb 29. We had quite a blizzard this morning. Last Saturday and Sunday it was snowing. Monday was fine nearly all the snow melted all last week. Was fine weather, snow nearly all gone. We got a 26 cent lump of coal, Feb. 1916.

March 15. We put five rolls of paper on the wall and five rolls on the ceiling of the south room. And five rolls on the wall and four on the ceiling on the north room. Two rolls of paper covered the ceiling of the bedroom today. March 24.

January 23. I sent $125 to D.J. Rees. Feb sent thirty to D.J. Rees. March 22. I collected $21. for him. I have now in hand for D.J. Rees $70. from Peter Jensen and $10.50 left yeat from Jost. Taxes $60 I must pay George out of it.

March 21. There was a heavy flood, The whole country was immudated from the 20th street nort [sic] of the creamery, Plowed the farm March 27th.

April 5. Advertised 81 city lot, cost $3.50.

April 6. Went to Conference for two days. The weather is fine but not warm enough. Last week we had a nice warm rain.

April 11. Gwennie and John went home this morning and it started to rain at night.

April 12. Ground covered with snow at noon, it is all gone.

April 18. Rec'd. rent $4.50 from McIntyre and $2. from S. Runtz. Rain last night and today.

April 20. It rained and snowed yesterday and last night. It froze ice. The fruit perhaps is all killed by frost.

May 2. The farm house vacated.

May 9. A miserable cold winter wind all day.

May 12. Cloudy like storm rain needed bad yesterday I gave notice for A. W. Mcntyre to move in 30 days from date and to pay up his rent inside of ten days. A.W. McIntyre moved out of the house May 18 oweing $18 rent.

 May 19. Raining today the first for the first for a lont [sic] time but didn't last long.

May 23. Sent $8. to D.J. Rees. Paid .65 more than due.

May 24. A good rain last night and some today. On May 12 I rent-ed the one field and house with the farm to Joseph Dell a Jap for $12 per month and rented the meadow May 17 to Bishop Powell for $65.

May 20. Joe Dale left the farm June 2. We have had two or more good showers of rain last week.

May 27. Rarr rented the house on Guinley Ave.

June 5. Ma and me went with M.V. to Malad and returned June 12. Joseph H. Thomas went to the Hospital June 8, 1916.

June 16. Went to see the 23 wells in Ogden with Noan. Emily came here. Ethel came on the 21st. They went home June 26. And Joe went June 27. Went to Salt Lake with the Old Folks. They forced us to wear a red badge.

July 15. Nothing very important has occured [sic] for some time only an undesirable tenant placed on the farm by an unscrupulous agent, but I managed to oust him in two days, Avery much needed rain for about six hours today.

July 19. Rented the Lucerne for $50 and the-house for $8 for a month to C.R. Ratz. $23 yet due to be paid Aug. 29. I am putting cement on the roof and on the floor of the cellar.

July 11. Sold the house and lots on Quincy Ave. to John T. Schuimann for $1150. on the installment plan, $15 on the first of each month at 3 per cent interest, $15 down.

August 1. Ma went to Malad and returned Aug. 11. Pa went Aug 4, returned Aug. 8. Rachel was sick.

August 14. Ma went to Provo. The reason is Mary Ellen gave birth to an eight months baby boy on Aug 11.

Nov. 27. It snowed very hard yesterday but it's all gone. Ground froze very hard today. Many acres of beets in the ground.

Jan 28. Started home at 9 A..M. with the automobile stage. Fare to Los Angeles, $2.75. Reached home Jan 31. 9:30 P.M. Fare round trip, $42.75, with bed in the sleeper.

Feb. 12. Gwennie gave birth to a baby boy at five o'clock P.M. Her Mas went to Malad Feb 13 and Pa went to Provo Feb. 17 and returned Feb 23. Feb 28, Ma returned from Malad.

Mar. 1. Rented the farm to C.R. Ratz for one year, $100. To be paid on or before June first and $8.00 per month. Last payment to be paid Feb. first 1918.

Mar. 3. M.V. Rees came down from Malad and returned March 5 and was snow-bound nearly all night near Plymouth.

Mar. 10. It snowed four inches yesterday and today. Very little sign of spring yet.

Mar. 14. It snowed all of eight inches last night and today.

Mar 21. Sent $40. to M.V. Rees. The snow is all gone down on the farm but, it is cold and stormy today. Hay $30. a ton here. Rec'd. 67¢ from A.W. McIntyre. He has paid $7. now. There is due yet $6.50. We have had, a snow storm several times lately.

April 3. We had a blizzard yesterday. It left four inches of snow but it is all going off today.

April 6. Pa went to Salt Lake and returned April 9. Ma went to Provo April 7 and returned April 12. Weather was beautiful, but it rained that day.  

April 15-Sunday. It snowed like January until six inches was on the ground.

April 14. Noan came here for one hour then went home on the train.

April 20. Planted wheat on the south end.

April 28. Planted wheat on the north piece. Madsen planted Rye fore part of April. April 30. A little nice rain after three days of strong cold miserable wind.

May 12. A nice heavy gentle rain today after three days of high scorching winds. The trees is all in blossom 6 weeks later than last year.

May 19. Got a letter from Mrs. F.P. Murray, but no money, on accounting of plastering and painting house.

May 20. Drizzling rain all day. Very cloudy. The Titanic was sunk by an iceberg April 14, 1912. Lois over 1500 souls. Length of boat, 882-9-92-6. The Lusitania was sunk by a German Submarine May 7, 1915. Length, 785 by 88 feet. Loss of life about 2000.

May 28. It has rained some today and nearly all night and a little every day for eight days past. Everything looks fine.

June 4. Nailed 3000 shingles on the slope roof.

June 10. It rained last night and this forenoon. It was cold yesterday.

June 17. It is very hot today and has been hot for the last four days. Things is very dry. Thomas came home Friday, June 8. Worked June 11. Nellie came down June 1, and went under an operation next day and went home June 8. George came here June 9 and went home June 11. Ratz mowed the last of his hay the 12 th.

June 18. Noan came down on the train and went back next day.

June 29. Went to Lagoon with the old folks.

July 6. My hay was mowed by George Butter and hauled July 9 by John Anderson. Four and a half tons. George came here July 26. Started to work July 27.

Sept. 17. Tonight George and Thomas left. T.R. went to school and George went to housekeeping. The south room was papered. 30 cents a roll. Br. 7¢. It too 6 rolls for wall. Five for ceiling Grapes and our own early peaches is ripe. Sept. 6 rec'd. $20 from T.R. for board and from George $30, Sept 5. On this day T.R. paid his Mother $4.00 on his board.

Sept 19. Noan and little Emily came here and went home next day. We are gathering all the grapes.

Sept. 21. Albertas nearly ripe.

Sept. 23 and 24. It has poured, the rain. Received the first Examiner, Sept. 26. Will get it 45 days for .65 cents.

October 3. Today we picked the last of our peaches. The cling stones we have sold three bushels and gave some. We had a big crop of fine grapes and pears. We have all picked now.

October 18. John Miller raised 206 bushel, mostly barley with some wheat on his OWJI. farm, and he got for his share 119 on Hugh Jones’ farm. Phillip sold wheat $477., Cattle $417, a pair of mares $275, chickens $9.30. Dee Thomas raised about 1200 bushels of wheat and barley.

October 24. Went to Malad. Returned Oct. 29th.

October 30. R. Schuinmann vacated the house on Quincy. Nov. 7. We had a nice soaking rain. It has been dry for a very long time. Lovely weather.

Nov. 20. Gwennie came from Malad. From Mrs. Murray only $20 because of taxes.

Nov. 28. All the children but Mary Ellen and Phillip came here for Thanksgiving. M.V. And Gomer went home Nov. 30. T.R. and Dave went Dec. 1. Joe and Emily, Dec 2. We had quite a rain Dec. 3. We had the first snow but it all went off.

Nov. 11, 1917, Gomer's wife gave birth to a baby boy. Noan and Maretta came to again Dec. 15, to get glasses for Maretta.

Dec. 19. Thomas came to Ogden to get a recommend [sic] to get married. He said he had been here Dec. 16.

Dec. 21. The weather has been ideal warm like spring for three weeks. They say trees is budding.

Dec. 15. Gwennie owed $20. She paid $5. Dec. 4, and $15 Dec. 15, and I returned her one dollar she had paid on the pictures last summer.

Dec. 17. I loaned her $6.15 to pay for coal due now.

Dec. 26. P.M. Rees and family came here and went home Sunday night, 30th. Thomas was married Dec. 20th in the Salt Lake Temple, to Theo Irene Nelson.

Dec. 31. The weather is like September weather. Warm, with no snow. and no frost in the ground, but I have been down sick for more than a week with a severe cold.

1918

Jan 1. Thomas came to Ogden Dec. 29 and his wife came here today, and both of them left Monday morning Jan 7. It has been raining and snowing all day. The ground is white. David B. Thomas died yesterday Jan 6. Ma and myself is down sick, yet with a severe cold.

Jan. 14. It has been snowing all day and every day for a week. There's a foot on the ground. Ethel has been here 12 days on her way to the Twin Falls and she is going tonight.

Jan 22. It has been snowing for two weeks we have about 18 inches on the ground. The weather has been quite cold for a few days. Nephi Hopkins has paid five dollars some time during the last week. Address T.R. Rees, 2126 # N.W. Washington. D.C.

Jan 27. Cold and very cloudy. Eighteen inches of snow.

Feb 14. Paid on Bonds for Dave fourteen hundred and one dollars and sixty five cents. And ten dollars to Judge Gunnel for him.

Feb 9. Mary Ellen gave birth to a six months baby boy. It only lived one half hour. They named him Earl. Ma went down there Feb 13, and came home Feb. 26. D.J. Rees came here Feb 16, at 12 P.M. and started home Feb. 20th. He left $200 with James Pingree.

March 4. M.V. went home. Stayed here one night. Four inches of snow same night.

March 6. Snowed an inch last night. Mr. Fracer moved into the house March 4.

March 18. The ground was dry enough to plow this forenoon but it's raining a little now. Thomas came here Mar. 15 and his wife came on the 17th and went to Malad today. Thomas and his wife started for Washington D.C. March 22nd. It has been a long spell since we have had any moisture.

March 28. We had a good rain. Then warm.

April 2. We had a cold snow storm, one inch.

May 3l. We had a good rain last night. It has rained off and on for a week. The weather has been cool.

June 10. It has been unbearable warm for over a week. Emily and Gome went home. Emily was here ten days, Gome three days.

June 13. It is fearful hot and dry. The small cherries is getting ripe.

June 20. June 22. May 16th. It rained last night, quite a bit or a very hard shower.

June 22. Hot and dry. John and Gwennie moved to the farm on May 16th. June 23, we got a heavy shower. Then a heavy rain.

July 3. It is raining a little today or trying to.

July 9. It rained last night very heavy for many hours. July 10 it rained again last night quite heavy and it is thundering tonight again. Mary Ellen sent in two big cases of large cherries today. I sent her a dollar bill in return.

July 20. Only $15. from F.P. Murray this month.

Aug. 4. We are having hot weather. The apricots is all gone. The peaches is beginning to turn red.

Aug. 6. Emily and Joe was here on account of Lenard going to California. On the tenth, Emma came here from California where she went to get married.

Aug 16. It rained heavy last night, and the day before yesterday. Our peaches is ripe. J. Miller paid $21. That is $30 in all now.

Aug. 26. Went to Malad in Phil's new auto. Returned on the train Sept. 4.

Sept. 5. Picked the last of the peaches and all the pears, and a lot of grapes.

Sept. 14. M.V. came here. Ma went to Malad on Sept 15 with Noan. We had a nice rain.

Sept 15. It rained heavy last night and today off and on all day. Oct. 3. Went to Salt Lake and the fair. Ma and Leslie went to Provo. I went to Provo on the 6th. Returned home Oct 7. We had lots of rain but no frost.

Oct. 13. I dreamed last night of seeing a bright red hot fire burning on the ground and the little chicks walking unhurt through the red hot coals.

Oct. 16. Very heavy rain today for three hours.

Oct. 17. We papered the north room ceiling took 4 rolls, the walls six rolls.

Oct. 20. Mrs. Murray only send $15 this month. T. R. sent me a nice Fountain Pen for my seventy birthday present.

October 28. It has been very cold for these days. Last night it rained heavy last week we had the first killing frost.

Nov. 3 and 6. We got the first storms then we had a very nice weather.

November 9. The Kaiser of Germany abdicated there was a great Excitement all through the country.

November 11. At five A.M. the Whistle blew Bells Rang, and there was Pandemoniam Reighned for many hours.

Nov 15. It thundered rained and hailed all day.

Nov. 19. Ma got a pair of shoes cost $4.00.

Nov. 20. Rec'd. from Mrs. Murray $25.00.

Nov. 24. We have had three fearfull cold days and high winds.

November 19th. Pres. Joseph F. Smith died in Salt Lake City.

December 9. Rain and sleet today. It has been very cold for 3 weeks and froze hard.

December 21. Went to Draper and Provo and went home Dec. 29. M.V. Rees came here with Gome returned Dec. 24. The weather is fine but cold with no snow. Gomer and family went to Provo and returned home Dec. 29. Sunday I went to Salt Lake and Provo Jan 7 to meet Dave but he didn't come. I came home Jan 10 .The weather is fine, roads dusty.

1919

Jan. 19. The saddest event of my whole life I cronicel here that is the Death of My Beloved Wife. The Wife of my youth who died this Sunday afternoon at seven minutes past three in the afternoon. We buried her on Jan. 22nd after a slight but fatal illness of little more than four days of kidney and heart trouble. Six of the children was at her side when she passed away. Mary Ellen came in an hour after she died and David came at one o'clock in the morning the day of the funeral. Thomas was in Washington D.C. and could not be here in time for the funeral, which was very sad. She was buried in a beautiful new lot in the Ogden City Cemetary.

Feb. 8. We have had snowstorms four days this week. It has been thawing. The ground has had a soaking. The bear never saw his shadow for three days. The first of the month.

Feb 14. We have had snow nearly all this week again. We have 8 inches now and its cloudy. I went to Malad Feb. 22 and re-turned on the 28. Stayed one night at Brigham City. Went to Provo, March 2, and returned home March 7th.

March. Nellie gave birth to a baby boy March 1 and Mary Ellen a boy March 6 and Gwennie March 9. John has been sick for ten days with the Flu. and is sick now. We have had several snow storms this month. It snowed four inches last night.

March 24. Rec'd. a letter from Evan Evans, 34 Ynyswen Rd. Greorky Glanmorgan, South Wales, G. Britain. Weather is fine.

March 28. Mary Ellen's baby boy three weeks old and buried next day at Provo.

April 8. Gomer came to Ogden last night and George started for Provo and Altonah same day in the morning. I have been quite sick for two weeks and am not much better at this writing. At noon or one thirty today I dreamed as I slept on the bed that I was in a strange town by the sea. There was a great fisherman by me that belonged in the town and a tall stranger came there and was anxious that the fisherman there would take the boat out to sea, and bring him in a fish. The man came to talk to me about the Thatcher family which leads me to believe that Mrs. Thatcher might be dead.

April 13. Noan and Phillip came here and went home Wednesday. Noan brought eight head of horses.

April 19. Rented the hay and pasture to Elias H. King for one year. Cash, $75. Due from Mrs. Murray, April 10, $428.87. Went to Provo, April 28 and returned May 2. Fare $4.48. The weather is dry. Rain is needed bad. Went to visit Mrs. Murray May 2nd.

May 13. Spent two weeks in Malad, and went to the Lava Hot Springs, returned May 26. Spent seven days at conference at Salt Lake City. Joe and Emily and family returned from Provo. June 16, left here for home 18th. Gomer and family came here on June 16. Left for Provo on the 18th. Paid $27 for the coping to J.W. Wheelrighto Bought a Tombstone for $100. Paid $25.00 on it.

July 20. Thomas and Theo came home on their vacation from Washing-ton D.C. They went to Mt. Pleasant next day and I went there July 23. Both of us returned July 26. Went to Malad Jyly [sic] 29 and came home Aug. 9th. T.R. on the l0th. Thomas and Theo bid us good bye Aug. 11th and went to Mt. Pleasant on their way back. The apricots were all gone Aug. 1. We have had no rain here to speak of since May 30th. Nearly all Gomer's grain burnt up by the drought.

August 23. We picked a few ripe grapes.

August 25. Very hot. No rain yet. Marie Hanson came here yesterday. Sunday August 31 we had a little rain, also a little rain Sept 2.

Sept. 3. The only debt that John owes now is $7 .50, balance on flour.

Sept 7. P.M. Rees and family came here. Departed on the morning of the 9th. We have had a few good showers of rain. We are bottling peaches and pears. There is a lot of the Albertas and Orange peaches and a few pears on the trees now, Sept. 9. Sept, 7, Peter Frederickson was buried.

Sept. 18. We have had some rain today and yesterday. About the 21st of September we picked all the pears and the peaches and all the grapes. On this day we picked the cling peaches. The weather is dry and quite cool in the night. No rain for over a week.

Sept. 25. John and Gwennie bought a house. Beyond five points on Dan St. for $1260. Me and Phillip measured the north field. It is 95 rods long. We started to measure the width at the south end and then in five pieces as follows. 15 rods+8 feet, next, 14r-4 ft., 13 x 17 ft., next, 10 x 4 ft. for a little distance. It is about 8 acres.

October. 2 – I went to Salt Lake but I didn't visit the Fair. Monday night, Oct. 6, I went to Provo. Returning on the ninth. Loaned $950. to J. H. Miller.

Oct. 14. It has rained all day and all night. Last night and it is raining now, 9 p.m. and it rained Oct. 2 and 3rd.

October 17. I want Mr. W. H. Frazier to make all payments yet due on the farm to Mr. John H. Miller, when I can't come myself.

October 11. I was quite sick last night and today.

October 17. I went to Willard yesterday. Gone three hours to visit Mrs. Davis.

October 23. I went to Malad returned Oct. 30. I didn't go to Elkhorn nor Cherry Creek.

October 31. We have had several days of snow storms since the 25th of Oct. and it was very cold. It left four inches of snow on the ground. It was very cold. It looks like winter here has set in for keeps.

Nov. 1. Mrs. Mary Williams returned from Rigby where she went for ten days.

Nov. 5. The weather has been nice all week.

Nov. 7. We had a big snow storm, then a mighty wind.

Nov. 24. The weather has been almost perfect for two weeks, but heavy frost at night bad for fall wheat as we have no snow.

Nov. 26. It snowed very little last night and today it is snowing and blowing and drifting fearful and very cold. A bad winter's day.

Nov. 30. We have had a dreadful cold wind for two days and then it rained and on Dec. 1st we had four inches of snow.

Nov. 29. Gomer and family and Noan came to Ogden and all went home Dec 2nd.

Dec. 7. It snowed last night.

Dec. 10. It snowed four inches last night. We have ten inches on the ground.

Dec. 11. It blowed a strong thaw wind, more then half the snow vanished before night. It rained and hailed and then snowed that night about 8 inches and Phillip came here in the storm at nine that night and went home on the 13th. Weather cold and fine.

Dec. 14. Mary Ellen came here and her two smallest children and went home De. 23rd. Emily came here Dec. 21st all alone and went home Dec. 24th. I went to Salt Lake on Dec. 25, and came home same night. train cost $1.95.

Dec. 26. The weather has been very fine for a week but cold.

Jan. 4. Sunday we have fine weather for over a week but quite cold but it snowed yesterday and today eight inches.

Jan. 6. It has been blowing a terrific gale all this afternoon and tonight and it is very cold. Gwennie has been very sick since New Years day with tonsilitis.

Jan. 9. Mrs. Mary Williams went to Rigby.

Jan. 17. We have a long spell of severe cold weather until two days ago. It moderated and rained a little this morning. It was like spring.

Jan. 22. Mrs. Williams came back yesterday from Rigby. She was gone 12 days. The weather has been very moderate for some time. Today it is raining all day.

Jan. 27. We have had several nice warm days. Mrs. Williams left for good, Friday, Jan 23. Noan came here Jan. 24 and left Jan. 26th.

Feb 21. It rained quite a lot last night. Sunday 22md, it rained all day. 23rd it snowed a little last night.

June 24. No rain. Everything very dry. P.M. and came in at 12 noon, 24, and went Lenard was brought to the hospital. She went home at 4:20 home again at one P.M.

July 21. Gwennie's baby was drowned at five points. 15 months old. His name was George Raymond Miller. All the folks came but Dave and Thomas. They was too far away. Charlotte came here the night the baby died. I went over to West Weber July 5th.

July 4. The baby was buried from five points. The folks went to Malad the same night and Gwennie and Mary Ellen went to Provo the seventh. My cherries are all gone. No rain yet.

July 6. Weather hot and dry. No rain yet. 30th, rented 4 rooms furnished for $9. a week.

July 19. Rec'd. from J.H. Miller, the $25 I had loaned him. Weather very hot, no rain for a long time.

Sept. 29. The house is not sold. Evans went back on his purchase. Forfeited $50. Charlotte came over on the train. I went back with her. Only stayed with her only one day. The weather is fine.

Oct. 9. Rented one room for a month for $12 at Jos. W. Taylor. The weather is fine. Very cold rain and snow nearly through the month. Went to Ogden Saturday, and came back same night.

Oct 19. Ethel Gibbons gave birth to a girl baby.

October 15. Bought a three room house for $850. No. 926 East Court.

November 10. Went to Provo. Stayed seven days. Gave the deeds to Mrs. F. P. Murray. Due yet from her $6.95.

Nov. 23. Came to Ogden. A.C. Delorot moved Nov. 24th nearly set the house on fire. Nov. 28th went to Salt Lake, returned next day.

Dec 5. Went to Salt Lake and back. Fare $1.19. The house there was vacated the day before.

Dec. 7. Rec'd. $17.50 damages and Belnap $10, $27.50 in all from A.C. Delorot.

Dec. 12. Mrs. Annie Rees and Mrs. Reziah Owen visited me all day today, Sunday.

January 1. Came last night from Malad. Phillip little son Vaughn Ray Rees died in the Dee Hospital at 8g45, Dec. 28th, 1920. 89 He swallowed a bit of peanut and it went down into his lungs. Drs. Ezra Pitch and Pugmire couldn't locate it. I had stayed in Malad six days in all at Emily's. Fare to Malad $3.56 each way.

Jan. 4. I rented the four rooms today to R. S. Vance for $25 per month. It is raining today a little. A sprinkle of snow last week not much.

Jan. 7. Moved to Salt Lake. Paid $15. for the moving truck.

Jan. 16. Went to Ogden and back. George has been out of work more than two weeks.

Jan. 23. Went to Provo. Came home Jan 25th. Fare $2.80.

Jan, 25. Gwennie gave birth to a girl at 7:30 A.M. On the 25th Emily came to wait on her.

Jan. 27. The assessor was here today. House $200. The ground $210. The furniture, $25.--$235. Got a letter from Gomer and answered it today.

Jan. 30. I went to Ogden and back same day.

Feb. 1. Mary Ellen gave birth to a baby girl before its time again. It weighed 3 ½ pounds.

Feb. 7. I took the Deseret News one month. 60¢.

Feb, 14. We have had a few snowstorms this month but the weather has been like spring last four days. I have had a dreadful pain in my left side all last week. It snowed three inches.

Feb. 25. Went to Provo came back Feb. 27th.

March 1 .Went to Ogden. Got $335. cash.

Mar. 3. Went to Malad. Got very sick and returned to Ogden on the 6th and home on the 7th. The weather has been very lovely with no snow.

Mar. 8, In the Walker Bank I have $95.00, the weather has been warm but it rained March 19 and a little snow last night.

March 31. Well, this is the last of March. It came in like a lamb and oes out the same, the month has been rather uneventful, we have had enough fine warm weather to bring out the buds and cold enough to kill much of the fruit so they say.

Feb. 9. Paid to L.D.S. Hospital for seven day. $29.85, and never again shall they have that much from me. It is good service but a poor boarding house. Vegitable prison, once a man goes in he can’t leave without a release or a permisson. Emily came down on the 8th of Feb.

April 8. They say that all the fruit is killed. Emily and Gwennie came down April 2. Emily went home yesterday and Gwennie went the day before. She was 4 inches of snow all during Conference.

April 14. Went to Ogden with a Piano, returned April 16. It has rained off and on several times since, It is pouring rain today April 23.

April 27. Went to Ogden today. Paid Mrs. Murdock for the water on Dan Street and came home April 30. Sold the house in Salt Lake May 3 for $1000, net $150. down $850. due to be paid in monthly installments of $20, and interest to Mr. Joe Needham.

May 3. Bought another house the same day for $750. cash down. The weather is beautiful now.

May 4. Interest Rec'd. on $500 one month $3.45 from J.A. Hogle today. Paid $750. today for two lots and house.

May 9. Went to Ogden and sold the home in Ogden to John and Gwennie for $2500. They paid the balance on the Dan St. house $457.80, and $1100 on the house at 859-20th street.

May 16. Moved down to 37th street.

May 21. Went to Provo today and came home on the 24th round trip fare $3.13.

May 25. It rained heavy this morning and every day for more than a week. Crops should be good.

May 29. Went to Ogden, returned June 1st.

June 1. John paid $10 on the place and $5 on the Piano.

June 5. It rained a few minutes today and thundered.

June 17. It has been very windy and cold all day and last night. It is trying to rain.

June 19. Well, the storm passed without hardly any rain. On the 17th it was very cold and chilly for 24 hours or more. Very cold. 18th rec'd. from Joseph Needham Interest was $7.30 six weeks principal $52.70.

July 2. Started to Provo with Phillip and his Family. Returned to Ogden.

July 5. Went to Malad with him on the 6th and returned to Ogden July 11th. Brought the furniture to Salt Lake July 13th, paid the auto truck ten dollars.

July 31. We had a very heavy rain, rec'd. from Oscar Madsen $5 for D. J. Rees wagon box.

Aug. 1. Went to Lagoon. Fare 35¢.

Aug. 13. Thundering and raining. We have had a good rains this week, the folks have harvested but George on Millers Farm.

August 21. It rained hard in the night. July 12th J.H. Miller paid for the rug, $10. Mary Ellen came here tonight and went to Ogden on the 23rd.

Sept. 2, 1920. Paid Mrs. Carrie Williams $500 on a piece of property I bought of her on State Street, 142 feet by 313 feet, $3500. Must be paid Oct. 2, 1920, A mortgage of $500. $20 rent is due on one house Sept. 10, $8.00 on the small house Sept. 17.

Sept 8, 1921. Look carefully in this book and you will find nearly how my business stands, I believe, at this date I have $1100 at the Walker Bros. Bank and $250 with J. A. Hogle and Co.

Sept. 8. We have had three night as cold as Christmas weather but now it is quite warm again.

Sept 15.  Received from P.M. Rees $150 on two notes dated July 1, and July 20, 1921. The night are very cold. The fall weather is here very early. No rain for some time.

Sept 19th. We have had no rain yet, weather little warmer. Rec'd from Joe Needham $25. interest included, and one dollar on linoleum.

Sept 24. It is very fine, I moved on the 19th of September.

October 11. I attended all the meetings of the conference. They were all good.

Oct l0. Gwennie came here, Went home the next day, We went to the fair one day, We have had no rain for months it seems.

Oct. 17. Joe Evans failed to pay his rent, I think Thomas got my letter today. I received a letter from George, no from Pearl. I got two ripe tomatoes in my garden today. Today I burned the leaves and moved the coal shed. The weather is fine and no rain yet.

Oct. 18, Mrs. Needham paid $1, on linoleum.

October 24, We had a very heavy rain. Very good. Joe Evans paid his rent today.

October 26. Today rec'd. $1.60 interest, from P.M. Rees.

Oct. 27. We had heavy hail and snow today. It is cold winter weather all right.

Nov 2. The weather is beautiful again. It is very hot in the day but cold in the night. Lizzie Edwards Neel was buried Nov. 1. At this date I have $25.81 in the Walker Bros. Bank and $300 at J.A. Hogle and Co. Main Street.

November 16. A thin covering of snow this morning and its very cloudy all day.

Dec. 15. We have had beautiful weather for the last 12 days, but the nights were cold. Today it is cloudy.

Nov. 17. Winters day. Snowing to the top of my shoes last night. and today.

Nov. 18. It snowed again last night about four inches. Over six inches now.

Dec. 2. Yesterday it rained all day. Last night it blew something awful. Today it is snowing all day. Six inches now.

Dec. 20. We have had beautiful weather for a long time but the last two days has been stormy rain and snow, but it has thawed all the snow away.

Dec. 22. Six inches more snow but six went off. We have nice weather to the end of the year. It is fine but foggy, Dec 31st.

1922

Jan 11. Well, the weather is and has been fine and clear and frosty very cold all this month so far we have two inches of snow on the ground. The winter has been ideal so far. I went to Ogden for Christmas for four days, train, cost $1.62. Noan came here yesterday, but only stayed for dinner. He had to return back on Jan. 11th.

I have two hundred dollars on interest with J.A. Hogle and Co. and a little in the Walker Bros bank and no debts.

Jan 19. I rented the two rooms today to Mr. A. H. Gorden for $2. per week. He paid for one week. The weather has been fearfull [sic] cold and we have four inches of snow on the ground.

Feb. 26. Well, this month has been a month of snow storms, rain, and thaws, all through. Snowing today all day. At intervals Gomer and George were here for two days about the 15 of Feb. I listed this place for sale for 30 days. Feb 25th. The last two days of Feb. was the coldest days of the winter with terrible stong [sic] winds, and March is cold and snowstorms on March 6th.

March 9. Well, we have had a few nice days but cold snow about all gone.

March 10. This morning we had a big surprise to find more than 8 inches of snow had fallen during the night.

March 20. The weather is fine and have very pleasant for a week. Snow all gone.

March 22. Weather is ideal. Leona has been sick.

April 6 . No one came from Ogden. Baby sick.

March 30. Went a letter and $4.75 to Maria to the old country to Bethnel Row. It is very fine today but March has been cold and stormy nearly all through.

April 8. Snowing almost a blizzard.

April 9. Sunday. Weather not very good.

April 15. Eight inches of snow fell last night. We have had winter all through the month.

April 17. Snowed two inches last night again, but it is fine and thawing this forenoon.

April 26. I was quite sick, and went to Ogden. Stayed there one week.

May 10. It has been pouring rain for two days and nights and to-day it is very cold and cloudy. It is sure to snow, tonight and maybe kill most of the fruit. It did not snow nor did it kill the fruit.

May 26. Today it has been very cold all day. The stove felt good. All day yesterday was a very hot day. Mary Ellen stayed here two nights and went to Ogden May 19th.

May 29. I went to Ogden and returned June 2nd, and Mary Ellen went home from Ogden.

June 4. Both girls got their teeth out. I sold the farm in Ogden for $1600. Got $200. down and $15 a month. The real estate man got $80 out of it. Frazier sold for $550. to Mr. Stuart. I sold to Ernest W. Darley. Mr. Myers planted the land May 29 to June 3. The weather is hot. Rain would be good. I loaned $5 to Mary Ellen today.

June 9. Loaned $15 to Emery Adamson and Mrs. Crowcraft.

June 10. In the Pingree Bank, $8.54. In the Walker Bank $650.01.

June 11. Sunday, Joe Evans moved away, oweing me rent $2.50.

June 15. I loaned Eight hundred dollars to Mrs. Hoagland for three years at seven per cent of 412 East Second South. Salt Lake City.

June 16. It is warm and clear today. It rained on the 13 and 14 and a little on the 15. It was a soaking rain and much needed.

June 18. Went to Ogden with Phillip and Nellie and the children and came home next day.

July 3. Statement from the Bank of Commerce today is balance 32¢. Loaned ten dollars to P.M. Rees, Loaned $25 to Coslett Thomas. P.M. Rees has paid the ten dollars.

July 16. Went to Ogden to meet Thomas and his wife. I went to Malad the same day for four days.

July 19. Thomas and Theo came to Ogden and he went to Malad and came here to Salt Lake, July 26th but only stayed here one night. Phyllis came here Aug 10.

Aug. 2. Thomas came here and went to Provo next day. We had a nice rain. August 2nd we picked apples, 6 bushels red astrachan apples July 30th.

Aug. 16. Thomas and Theo came here for one night and a day. Then went to Malad.

Aug. 20. It rained very hard here for twenty minutes.

Aug. 24. Thomas and Theo went home. Aug. 26 I bought the crop of corn, potatoes, celery, two long rows at Sherrifs [sic] sale. It me $55.00. Dan and Mary Ellen and Lizzie came from Provo. Cassies wife died Aug. 22nd.

Aug. 28. Picked 3 bushels pears. The price is $1.50.

Sept. 12. Phyllis went to Provo. Thomas reached home Aug. 27th.

Sept 22. I wrote to Emily and to Gwennie and to Provo today. I have sold all the pears over six bushels at $1.50 a bushel. The apples ain't ready yet.

Sept. 25. Dave and Dinah came here and went next day.

Sept. 20. Went to Ogden. Deposited 150 dollars at Wrights at six per cent interest.

October 21. I put more money with Wrights. I have Five Hundred there now.

Oct. 16. I sold the home on State Street for $5000. and bought a home on the west side and moved Oct. 26th.

Sept. 19. Mary Ellen was operated on Friday, for appendicitis and gall bladder, at the L.D.S. Hospital.
