The following information about the immigration of Benjamin Evans Williams is taken from a paper compiled by his son, Benjamin E Williams:

Benjamin Evans Williams was born July 17, 1846 in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan Wales, the son of William Williams and Ann Evans. We don't know the circumstances surrounding his birth, but at the tender age of 17 he came to the United States with John E. and Mary Evans, David Evans age 17 and Mary Davis, age 10. They went to Liverpool, England to take passage on the ship General McMillan on May 21, 1864 with G.D.G. Trask as master of the ship. Those listed on the log were 802 souls with the leader being Thomas E. Jeremy. They came over with an L.D.S. group. Listed among the passengers: John E. Evans, 45, occupation, collier; Wales; Mary Evans, 37, wife, Wales; David Evans, 17, occupation, collier, Wales; Benjamin E. Williams, 17, occupation, collier, Wales; Mary Davis, 10, Wales.

The ship arrived at the U.S. New York port on June 23, 1864. Among the passengers following listed as: John Evans, 45, male, labr, Wales; Mary Evans, 37, female, wife, Wales; Benj. E. Williams, 17, male, labr, Wales; David Evans, 17, male, labr, Wales; Mary Davis, 10, female, child, Wales, going to the Utah territory.

On film #298 441, Crossing the Plains, July 22, 1864, among the passengers listed in Captain William S. Warren company were #169 John E. Evans & family, #170, Mary 38, #171, Mary 11, David and Benjamin having the same last name as John and Mary Evans must have been listed as their family.

Tuesday: October 4, 1864, the weather was cool but pleasant as Captain William S. Warren's train arrived in Great Salt Lake City. On November 20, 1864, the five: John E. Evans, Mary Evans, David Evans, Benjamin E. Williams and Mary Davis were baptized. Benjamin was confirmed by Philip Sykes.
