Richard Henry Thomas and his fianceé Jane Davis came to America on board the "Manhattan" in 1872 and were married upon arriving in Salt Lake City. A daughter, Harriet Mary Thomas, was born to them 31 May 1873. Four months later on 18 September 1873 Richard died. Three years after Richard's death his widow Jane married William Harman. They had four children.

Richard's parents, Henry and Harriet Richards Thomas, came to America on board the "Nevada" in 1874. They settled in Wales, Sanpete County, Utah.
